Chapter 291 - Chapter 291: The Truth Written in Stone

A month later, deep within the ancestral hall of the Uchiha Clan, Ash stood alone in the darkness. Kneeling on the tatami mats, he gazed at the massive stone tablet before him, a faint smile appearing on his face.

"I finally found it," he murmured. "I didn't expect it to be this hard."

This was the stone tablet Uchiha Itachi had once told Sasuke to read.

Ever since Ash learned of the hidden potential of the Byakugan and its mysterious connection to the Uchiha–Uzumaki lineage, he had known he couldn't afford to overlook any clue—especially one tied to the deepest secrets of chakra itself.

"So it really works this way…"

Ash focused his Sharingan, carefully deciphering the ancient script carved into the tablet.

"The contents revealed depend on the level of one's ocular power. An ordinary Sharingan can only see the method to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan. As the eye continues to evolve, deeper truths gradually unfold."

Relying solely on his own eyes, Ash read through the tablet line by line—and what he discovered shook him to his core.

Long before shinobi existed, the world belonged to samurai.

Back then, swords were the only true military power. Nations and races waged endless wars for their own interests, plunging the entire continent into an age of unrelenting bloodshed.

There was only one exception.

A land revered across the world as a Holy Land.

At its center stood an unimaginably enormous God Tree, its trunk piercing the heavens themselves. At its crown bloomed a single flower bud.

Once every hundred years, that bud would bear a fruit. When the fruit fell, it was reabsorbed by the God Tree as nourishment.

No beast dared approach the tree.

An invisible pressure surrounded it, repelling all animals as if by divine will.

Yet strangely, humans were unaffected.

Because no one knew the origin of the God Tree—and because of the overwhelming, mysterious aura it exuded—the land surrounding it became sacred. No matter how brutal the wars elsewhere grew, conflict never reached the vicinity of the God Tree.

Until one day.

In a small nation near the Holy Land lived a princess named Ōtsutsuki Kaguya.

She watched helplessly as war tore her country apart and her people suffered endlessly.

Unable to endure it any longer, Kaguya shattered the unspoken rule that had governed the continent for thousands of years.

She consumed the fruit of the God Tree.

From that moment on, Kaguya gained a power never before seen in the world—chakra.

With chakra, she unified the entire continent and was worshipped as a god. Though everyone knew the source of her power, no one dared oppose her.

The reason was simple.

Strength.

After peace was established, the world entered an era of stability. During this time, Kaguya gave birth to two sons: Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo and Ōtsutsuki Hamura.

Both were born with chakra, inheriting their mother's power.

As the years passed, the brothers grew stronger—so strong that they nearly reached Kaguya's own level.

Seeing this, Kaguya believed that even after her eventual passing, the world would never again fall into endless war.

But peace never lasts forever.

The God Tree, enraged by the loss of its fruit, transformed.

Its wrath gave birth to a monstrous existence—the Ten-Tails.

The Ten-Tails rampaged across the continent, devouring chakra in an instinctive attempt to reclaim its lost power. Entire regions were reduced to ruin.

To stop it, Kaguya confronted the beast herself.

For three days and three nights, god and monster clashed. Their powers were born of the same source, and neither could gain the upper hand.

In the end, with the aid of her two sons, the Ten-Tails was finally subdued and sealed within Kaguya herself.

From that moment on, the God Tree vanished from the world.

It could be said that Kaguya was the God Tree—and the God Tree was Kaguya.

After merging the power of the fruit with that of the Ten-Tails, Kaguya became vastly stronger—far surpassing even her sons.

But there was a price.

The power of the God Tree was not something she could fully assimilate.

Though born of the same origin, the will of the God Tree and Kaguya's own consciousness were not identical. As a result, the two began to clash relentlessly within her body, each struggling for control.

A battle not of flesh—but of will—had begun.

In the end, the will of the God Tree gained the upper hand.

Its consciousness gradually overwhelmed Ōtsutsuki Kaguya's own thoughts, and the resentment it harbored toward humanity completely corrupted her heart. Once the God Tree's hatred took root within her, Kaguya could no longer turn back.

Influenced by the God Tree, Kaguya inherited its rage toward mankind and began to exact merciless retribution. The world, which had only just known peace, was once again plunged into suffering.

Kaguya's power was simply too overwhelming.

Even her own sons—Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo and Ōtsutsuki Hamura—were no match for her at that time.

In order to resist their mother's wrath, Hagoromo and Hamura made a decisive choice.

They spread the method of chakra cultivation across the continent, allowing humanity to learn and wield chakra for themselves. Only by empowering mankind could they hope to stand against Kaguya.

After humans gained chakra, many awakened unique abilities due to bloodline inheritance—thus giving rise to what would later be known as Kekkei Genkai.

After consuming the fruit of the God Tree, Kaguya not only obtained chakra but also awakened her own dōjutsu.

Later, after sealing the God Tree and the Ten-Tails within herself, she gained an even greater power—the Rinne Sharingan, also known as the Eye of the Moon.

Her two sons inherited aspects of this power.

Hagoromo inherited chakra-based ocular power related to the Ten-Tails, awakening the Sharingan.

Hamura inherited his mother's bloodline directly, awakening the Byakugan.

As the brothers continued to grow stronger, Hagoromo's Sharingan eventually evolved into the Rinnegan, while Hamura's Byakugan advanced toward a higher, transformed state. Though their dōjutsu differed in form, both were born of chakra and thus possessed overlapping abilities.

Hagoromo used chakra to develop countless ninjutsu and went on to establish the foundations of ninjutsu civilization. He taught people how to use chakra properly, and nearly all chakra users eventually gathered under his guidance.

With humanity now capable of wielding chakra—and with Kekkei Genkai awakening across the land—the people finally rose up against Kaguya.

Led by Hagoromo and Hamura, mankind challenged the Goddess herself.

And at last—

Ōtsutsuki Kaguya was defeated.
