Lucas followed closely behind as the hospital staff quickly cleared the path for them. Within moments, they reached the emergency room, and the doors were pushed open without delay.
The doctors took Evelyn inside immediately, moving with urgency and precision.
"Please wait outside," one of the doctors said firmly.
Elena stopped right at the entrance.
For a brief moment, her hand remained on the edge of the stretcher, as if she did not want to let go. Then, slowly, her hand slipped away.
The doors closed in front of her.
Just like that, her mother was taken inside.
The hallway fell silent.
Elena stood there, staring at the closed doors. Her expression remained composed, but her hands had clenched slightly at her sides.
Lucas stepped closer to her.
"They will do everything they can," he said.
Elena did not respond immediately. Her gaze remained fixed on the door, as if she could see through it.
After a few seconds, she finally spoke.
"She has to survive."
