The doctor stepped out of the emergency room.
Lucas, Elena and Reginald stood in front of him. Their eyes were fixed on his face, waiting for his words.
For a brief moment, no one spoke. Then the doctor removed his mask and looked at them.
"The surgery was successful," he said.
A pause followed.
"The patient is no longer in danger."
The words settled slowly.
Elena felt her body relax slightly, as if a tight grip around her chest had finally loosened.
Lucas exhaled quietly. Even he had not realized how tense he had been until that moment.
Reginald stood still, absorbing the words. Relief washed over him, but it was mixed with lingering fear and disbelief.
"She will regain consciousness after some time," the doctor continued. "However, her body is extremely weak. She will need proper care and time to recover."
Elena nodded. "Thank you," she said.
