"I'll treat your injuries first."
Kitazawa stepped forward, raised his hand, and a soft, pale green chakra surged out, wrapping around Nagato's frail body.
"I don't understand... Why didn't you kill me?"
Warmth slowly returned to his limbs. Nagato could feel the pain easing, and even his words came out less broken than before.
"I didn't kill you because you're inherently valuable."
Kitazawa paused, then added, "To be precise, it's not just you. The other members of Akatsuki are also very valuable."
"What value?"
Nagato frowned in confusion. "With your strength, do you still need the Akatsuki Organization?"
"I can't do everything alone," Kitazawa replied.
"What do you want us to do?" Nagato asked, his tone more cautious now.
"The most urgent thing," Kitazawa said with a slight smile, "is for you to help me capture Black Zetsu."
"You actually know about Black Zetsu's existence?"
Nagato couldn't hide his shock.
Zetsu was split into White Zetsu and Black Zetsu.
But only White Zetsu ever moved openly. Black Zetsu had never appeared in front of outsiders.
Konan also stared at Kitazawa in surprise.
Even though she understood his basic nature, moments like this reminded her how little she truly knew about him.
"I know more than you think."
Kitazawa withdrew his hand. "There's nothing fundamentally wrong with your body—only severe chakra exhaustion."
"Is there a way for him to recover?" Konan asked immediately.
"If he severs his connection with the Gedo Statue, he'll recover slowly," Kitazawa said after thinking for a moment.
"I can't sever it," Nagato shook his head. "Not unless I give up the Rinnegan."
"There is another way," Kitazawa said. "The owner of the other pair of Rinnegan can seize control of the Gedo Statue."
"There cannot be another pair of Rinnegan!" Nagato rejected the idea without hesitation. "These are the eyes of the Sage of Six Paths!"
"If they're the Sage of Six Paths' eyes, then how did you end up with them?" Kitazawa pressed.
"I don't know."
Nagato fell silent for a moment, then said, "Maybe this is the mission the Sage of Six Paths entrusted to me—to bring peace back to the ninja world."
"You really are... naive," Kitazawa said, watching him.
Thinking about it, Nagato's fate was truly miserable—dying without ever learning that his Rinnegan came from Uchiha Madara.
"What do you mean?" Nagato asked, frowning.
"I already told you. Those Rinnegan aren't yours."
Kitazawa spoke plainly.
"That's impossible!"
Nagato denied it instantly.
If that were true, then everything he had believed in up to now would become a joke—whether it was his self-proclaimed godhood or his ideal of peace for the ninja world.
"The Rinnegan is immensely powerful. Why would anyone be willing to give them to Nagato?" Konan asked calmly.
"If someone was willing to give Nagato the Rinnegan, it naturally means there's an earth-shattering conspiracy behind it."
Kitazawa looked straight at Nagato. "Rinne Rebirth."
The Rinne Rebirth was essentially the only large-scale resurrection jutsu shown in the original story.
At the cost of the user's life, it could revive a great number of the dead.
In the original storyline, Nagato was moved by Naruto's words and used it to resurrect everyone who died in Konoha.
"You mean this person is already dead, and he wants me to use the Rinne Rebirth to resurrect him?"
Nagato quickly caught on. "I don't even know him. Why is he so sure I'd bring him back?"
"Black Zetsu can control you," Kitazawa explained.
"It has that much power?"
Nagato's expression wavered, doubt written clearly across his face.
Konan, however, believed Kitazawa.
She had never trusted Black Zetsu or Uchiha Madara in the first place.
"Who was the original owner of the Rinnegan?"
The thought suddenly surfaced in Konan's mind, and she voiced it aloud.
"It was Uchiha Madara," Kitazawa replied.
"It really was him?"
Konan's gaze instinctively shifted to Nagato.
Nagato's face tightened. He looked shaken, uncertain.
If what Kitazawa said was true, a lot of things suddenly began to line up in his mind.
"I know words alone aren't proof."
Kitazawa smiled slightly. "So I want to ask you both to cooperate with me in a little act to lure Black Zetsu out."
This was the two-birds-with-one-stone plan he had come up with.
First, let Nagato confront the truth.
Second, use that opportunity to drag Black Zetsu out of the shadows and capture it.
"Lure it out?" Nagato frowned, still puzzled.
"Under normal circumstances, Black Zetsu would wait until all Nine Tailed Beasts are gathered, then control you to use the Rinne Rebirth."
Kitazawa paused, then continued, "But what if you were about to die?"
Nagato instantly understood the "play" Kitazawa wanted to stage.
He would suffer a devastating defeat—or even fake his death—during Akatsuki's attack on Konoha.
If the Rinnegan in his eyes really belonged to Uchiha Madara, then Black Zetsu and Uchiha Madara would never allow the Rinnegan to fall into Kitazawa's hands.
They would be forced to appear.
Of course, the "Uchiha Madara" Nagato currently believed in was actually Uchiha Obito.
[Current Mission: Capture Black Zetsu.]
[Mission Reward: 40% Ōtsutsuki Clan Bloodline.]
[Accept?]
Looking at the system mission that appeared before him, Kitazawa felt a surge of joy.
With the additional 40%, combined with the 50% Ōtsutsuki Clan Bloodline he had obtained from merging Akatsuki with Konoha earlier, his Ōtsutsuki Bloodline would reach 90%.
This Ōtsutsuki Bloodline, however, was that of the branch clan on the moon.
Once it reached 100%, he should be comparable to the brothers Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo and Ōtsutsuki Hamura.
He would still fall short of Ōtsutsuki Kaguya, but not by much.
After all, those two together had once defeated Kaguya.
"Let's talk about the rest after we capture Black Zetsu," Kitazawa said, snapping back to the present.
Nagato nodded silently.
Everything that had happened today was too much for him to process.
He had been utterly defeated by Kitazawa, and now he was being told that the Rinnegan in his eyes wasn't even his.
"To make sure our act tomorrow doesn't get seen through, I'll top up your chakra first."
After thinking for a moment, Kitazawa took out the Dragon bow.
The Dragon Vein was sealed inside that bow.
The Dragon Vein had accumulated power for a thousand years; even though Kitazawa had used the World-Ending Arrow twice, a massive amount of chakra still remained.
"Thank you," Nagato said.
At this point, he believed Kitazawa.
If Kitazawa wanted him dead, he could have killed him at any time. There was no need for this elaborate setup or for revealing the truth.
"Thank you."
Konan's tone was cool as she looked at Kitazawa, but her words were sincere.
"It's nothing," Kitazawa replied with a faint smile. "We're just getting what we each need."
Konan's heart trembled slightly, and she lowered her gaze.
She was already thinking about how she should repay Kitazawa in the future.
The Dragon bow quivered, and an enormous amount of chakra surged into Nagato's body.
Nagato, who had been on the brink of collapse, began to recover rapidly.
"In addition, I need to place a sealing technique on your Rinnegan," Kitazawa added.
He was referring to the Transcription Seal.
The Transcription Seal, put simply, is a seal embedded within the Sharingan with a preset trigger. Once that condition is met, the seal activates on its own.
In the original story, Itachi implanted Amaterasu into Sasuke's eyes, almost killing Obito.
Before the battle at the Valley of the End, Uchiha Madara also inscribed Izanagi into his own eyes, allowing him to escape death.
Kitazawa understood what Black Zetsu was, but he still didn't know how to actually kill it.
Since that was the case, he decided to rely on one of the core principles of the ninja world: sealing techniques.
After all, even Ōtsutsuki Kaguya had been sealed away by a fūinjutsu.
"When Black Zetsu takes control of you, the sealing technique in your eyes will trigger," Kitazawa said.
Nagato agreed without hesitation.
If Kitazawa wanted him dead, he wouldn't need to go through all this trouble—Nagato understood that much.
Kitazawa dispelled his Dragon Bow.
After thinking for a moment, he inscribed four different sealing techniques into Nagato's eyes:
Five Elements Seal, Four Symbols Seal, Eight Trigrams Seal, and the Seal of Self-Retribution.
He wasn't aiming to completely seal Black Zetsu—only to stall it.
As long as he could buy enough time, he would be able to rush over and add more seals when needed.
"Then we'll end it here for today. We'll meet again in Konoha," Kitazawa said, glancing at Konan.
"Our Akatsuki organization will set out tomorrow and reach Konoha by the morning of the following day," Nagato replied after a brief pause.
"I'll send people to intercept you before the Forest of Death," Kitazawa said casually.
He would personally deal with Nagato. The rest of Akatsuki would be left to his students.
However, besides Nagato, there was another crucial target: Uchiha Obito.
Kitazawa intended to resolve that matter this time as well.
Obito's Izanagi and Kamui were troublesome, but now that he had planned several steps ashead, it was no longer unmanageable.
[Current Mission: Capture Uchiha Obito.]
[Mission Reward: Kamui.]
[Accept?]
Kitazawa couldn't help but smile.
Kamui was too valuable to pass up.
There was no reason not to accept.
After absorbing the chakra of the Dragon Vein, Nagato had recovered to his pre-battle condition.
He said his farewells to Kitazawa and left with Konan.
[Current Mission: Defeat Nagato.]
[Mission Reward: Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan evolves into Rinnegan.]
[Host has completed the mission, rewards are being issued.]
