Ciel already knew the moment he saw Keres leap that high; there was no way he could match that thing's speed. A rabbit hop and run looked like a joke compared to the grasshopper's springing jump.
So, he planned not to try to win by footrace.
Instead, he went for a shooting spree.
Even at a dead sprint, Ciel dodged chunks of the collapsing building's ruins and weaved through smoke and falling grit. He always had his plasma gun up and firing while moving.
Thwip!
He wasn't just firing randomly, but even accurately. Really a testament to the talent one has to have when getting a higher position at a younger age.
Thwip-thwip!
The bolts skipped and cracked around Keres, mid-air or landing; he had no way to escape. One caught the meat of a thigh joint; another burst against a plate of carapace in a spray of white sparks.
Thwip-thwip!
