When he got closer to the forest, Keres quickly leaped high in its direction. He used every meter of that spring-loaded frame to hop from tree to tree, much faster than just hopping on the ground.
As he moved, he also felt the change in the sky as it got darker for no reason. But he couldn't be bothered with it. Because if he could run far away enough, there was nothing to worry about anything anymore.
In other words, he only needed to run and run.
The same was going through Ciel's mind. He only had his eye on one direction. He could care less about what was happening around him.
He simply ran after Keres.
Ciel's shorter legs were working overtime. He pumped his semi-transformed legs at maximum limits. His boots were tearing divots out of the mud through the forest.
His breathing was running in a perfect constant rhythm so that he wasn't running out of breath. He was only three seconds behind Keres, who was hopping on the branches.
