"This is Lord Hatake Kusuo. He was the one who saved our village from this crisis," Natsuhi introduced.
The old smith immediately took the purple crystal from Kusuo. "Forge this into a dagger," Kusuo instructed, handing the crystal over. If it were made into a short sword, it would conflict with the one he was currently using. A dagger, on the other hand, could be used for silent kills.
"Yes, Lord Kusuo," the smith said, accepting the "Star" and leaving the room.
Seeing the smith leave, Kusuo glanced at a corner of the room. "Come out."
"Yes, Lord Kusuo." Ibiki Morino's figure emerged from the shadows, bowing to him.
"According to the Demon Slayer Corps' recent investigation, the Mizukage of the Land of Water has been secretly collecting Tailed Beasts, including Konoha's Eight-Tails."
Hearing this, Kusuo's brow furrowed. Capturing Tailed Beasts didn't concern him; Obito would naturally go after them. But making a move on Konoha was crossing a major line. Hinata and Shion were both resting there. If the Mizukage's plan harmed either of them, he would not be spared.
"Anything else?" Kusuo asked coldly. The question made Ibiki shudder.
"Orochimaru... Orochimaru recently tested the Reanimation Jutsu. The Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist have been revived."
Oh? This news piqued Kusuo's interest. Reviving them was undoubtedly a golden opportunity for him to acquire their legendary weapons. "Tell me if there is any other news."
Ibiki quickly shook his head. "That is all. We haven't discovered anything else for the time being."
Kusuo nodded slightly. He wasn't too concerned about the Land of Water's sudden move. All he had to do was kill the Mizukage. "Don't make a move on the Mizukage's situation yet. I will handle it personally."
As he spoke, footsteps approached from outside. Ibiki quickly vanished back into the darkness. Kusuo frowned slightly. The person coming was Natsuhi.
"Is there something else? Haven't I already given you the material?"
Hearing him, Natsuhi blushed. "I just wanted to ask... when will you be taking me with you, Lord Kusuo?"
Her question was followed by sounds from outside the room. After the fall of the previous Hoshikage, the village was now without a leader. Natsuhi was the natural choice, but her heart was not in it. She insisted on passing the position to her ten-year-old son, a decision that was rejected by the other villagers.
"I happen to have a mission tomorrow. If you are interested, you can come with me."
Natsuhi's face lit up. "That would be wonderful, Lord Kusuo! I'll go prepare at once."
Watching her leave, Kusuo sighed softly. This trip would be a crucial test for Natsuhi. She no longer possessed the power she once had. Any ninjutsu she used would completely drain her of her power. But Kusuo knew she had to go through this sooner or later. And he needed her to teach the Mysterious Peacock Method to his Demon Slayer Corps. Getting to know her better on this trip was also a good thing.
"Looks like I'll have to wait until this is over before I can go back and see Hinata." He had been away for quite some time, and just before he left, Hinata's eyes had just been replaced with the Rinnegan. "I wonder how she is now."
But the thought of the Mizukage preparing to make a move ignited another wave of anger in him. Kusuo now required the strongest opponents. If his perfectly laid plans were interrupted, he would not let it slide. The best choice now was to kill the Mizukage before he could act.
The next morning.
The moment Kusuo opened his eyes, Natsuhi rushed in from the doorway. "Lord Kusuo, I have been waiting for a long time."
Kusuo wasn't surprised by her appearance. "If you're ready, we can leave now." He tossed a file into her hands. "This is our mission for this time." The mission card he gave her had been prepared overnight by Ibiki. The intel detailed the Mizukage's current status and his likely locations.
But when Natsuhi took the mission card, her eye twitched.
