Hearing his words, Natsuhi lowered her head. Kusuo knew what she was thinking and had already found a reason to stop her.
"Every village's Anbu has its purpose. You must not underestimate their strength," Kusuo said, aware that her victory over Jinpachi had made her a little proud.
"I think with my current strength, I should be able to test myself on the battlefield. If I faced an opponent like Jinpachi again, I could definitely defeat him."
Kusuo drew the sword he had just acquired. "I'm going to strike at you now. If you can react, I'll let you go out and see for yourself."
Natsuhi's eyes locked onto Kusuo. She knew in her heart that he would never truly harm her. As she stared intently at him, a lock of hair fell from her forehead. Kusuo's body seemed to have swayed slightly, but he had remained seated, unmoving. And yet, a strand of her hair had been neatly cut.
"You saw that. I used no special techniques, no ninjutsu. Just a casual swing of my sword."
For the first time, Natsuhi understood why so many people were utterly helpless against Kusuo. She finally saw how he was able to stand at the pinnacle of the five great nations. "So, is it because my skills are too weak? Or should I train more?" she asked, looking at her trembling hands. She had already been training with all her might, but her body just couldn't bring forth greater power.
"It's not that your training is insufficient, but that you lack real combat experience," Kusuo said, pulling a shuriken from his weapon pouch and placing it in front of her. "Take the simple act of me drawing this shuriken. If it were you, what would you have done?"
Natsuhi looked up and only then realized a shuriken was already in front of her. In that instant, she understood the gap between them. "So, it's just that I haven't been training for long enough, is that it?"
Kusuo gently shook his head. "As I just explained, it's not a lack of training, but a lack of experience. A simple action like that is perfected through daily, repetitive practice to increase the speed of the draw. And the best place to get that kind of training is a real battlefield."
Kusuo knew exactly what Natsuhi's state of mind was when facing an enemy. This time, she lowered her head and said nothing.
"I saw you use fire-style chakra earlier. You've never used that chakra before, have you?"
Natsuhi simply nodded, not speaking.
Kusuo continued, "So when you first used it, you couldn't control it. Only later were you barely able to manage the power of the flames, correct?"
She nodded again, but this time she looked up at him. "I never used my fire-style chakra before because they said I was like a monster."
Kusuo frowned, not understanding what she meant.
"When I use my fire-style chakra, if I can build it up for a long time, the power I unleash becomes much stronger. And as time passes, my fire chakra naturally recovers on its own."
Kusuo wasn't surprised by this. Natsuhi's body had been modified by the Star and was completely different from a normal person's.
"The best opportunity for you is right in front of you now. This mission is a crucial training exercise for you," he told her. "If you can complete this mission with your own strength, your skills will improve dramatically."
Natsuhi had great faith in Kusuo's advice. Her recent duel with Jinpachi had already taught her a great deal about controlling her fire chakra. With time, she would surely undergo a transformative change in this area.
"We'll hide here for today. You focus on regulating your chakra pathways. We'll set out again tomorrow." With that, Kusuo closed his eyes and began his own meditation.
Natsuhi, on the other hand, reached for two soldier pills and tossed them into her mouth. Unlike Kusuo, she couldn't go for days without eating.
