Chapter 211 - Chapter 210 — Rest Before the Storm

Chapter 210 — Rest Before the Storm

The hangar remained quiet long after Clint finished speaking.

The sound of his final words still seemed to linger in the air, heavy and difficult to accept. The wide space of the Avengers facility hangar felt larger than before, as if the silence itself had pushed everyone farther apart.

Natasha was gone.

Not missing. Not captured. Not waiting somewhere to return.

Gone.

Clint sat on the cold floor, shoulders lowered, bow resting loosely beside him. His eyes stared forward without focus. The fight had left his body, replaced by exhaustion so deep it showed in every breath he took.

Behind him, Hulk remained close, large and unmoving.

One massive hand rested lightly on Clint's shoulder.

The gesture was careful, almost gentle, as if afraid to break something fragile, though he himself was weighed down by grief.

Steve Rogers watched everyone quietly. His shield hung at his side, forgotten for the moment. He wasn't looking for threats anymore. He was watching people, making sure no one lost control, making sure grief didn't turn into anger.

Thor stood near the edge of the platform. The lightning that had danced around him was gone, and his gaze remained lowered. The loss clearly weighed on him, though he said nothing.

Tony Stark looked from one face to another.

The tension that had filled the hangar earlier had faded. Weapons were lowered. No one stood ready to fight anymore. What remained was something heavier, exhaustion.

Not just physical.

Emotional.

The newcomers, Gaius and his warriors, stood together in disciplined silence. They did not interrupt. They did not speak. But their stillness carried understanding. They recognized loss even when it belonged to another world.

Tony exhaled slowly.

Everyone needed space.

Everyone needed rest.

And someone had to move things forward.

He stepped forward slightly, breaking the silence without raising his voice.

"Alright," Tony said gently. "That's enough for today."

His tone wasn't commanding. Just practical.

He looked toward the towering golden warrior.

"Come, Gaius. I'll bring you guys to your resting place first."

There was no suspicion in his voice. No distance.

Only cooperation.

Gaius met Tony's gaze. For a moment, neither spoke. Then Gaius gave a single nod.

He understood.

Behind him, the Ultramarines moved immediately, falling into position without needing instruction. The Sister of Silence followed silently, her presence calm and steady.

The Avengers began to disperse slowly.

Steve helped Clint stand.

Thor turned away, walking toward another corridor without a word.

Bruce guided Clint carefully, remaining beside him.

No one celebrated survival. No one discussed plans.

Grief demanded quiet.

Tony led the way deeper into the compound.

The corridors were wide and industrial, built for function rather than beauty. Overhead lights hummed softly. Storage crates lined parts of the walls, many marked with repair labels and supply tags.

Signs of building were everywhere.

Gaius walked behind Tony, observing without turning his head. His enhanced senses took in details automatically, structural reinforcement, emergency power systems, repaired sections of flooring.

Behind him, Titus and the Bladeguard scanned their surroundings quietly. Their movements remained disciplined, and steady.

The Sister of Silence paused slightly as they walked.

This world felt… different.

The constant psychic noise she knew from the Warp was absent. The quiet here was natural, not forced. For the first time in a long while, the absence of chaos felt complete.

It was unfamiliar.

But peaceful.

Tony stopped before a large reinforced door and tapped a control panel.

The doors slid open.

Inside was a massive warehouse space converted into temporary living quarters.

The ceiling stretched high enough to accommodate armored giants. Rows of reinforced beds stood along one side. Supply racks held tools, power units, and maintenance equipment. Charging stations and work tables filled the far wall.

Nothing luxurious.

Everything practical.

Tony gestured inside.

"There's a room where you guys can rest if you want."

He then pointed toward a nearby screen.

"If you need anything, just ask it."

He stepped in, turning back toward them.

"Let's take a rest first. Tomorrow we'll start."

The meaning was clear.

Plans could wait.

Everyone was too tired to make good decisions tonight.

Gaius understood immediately.

Rest before preparation was sound strategy.

He stepped forward, scanning the area once more.

Small compared to Imperial barracks.

But sufficient.

Comfort was irrelevant. Space and readiness mattered more.

Acceptable.

Gaius moved toward the center of the warehouse.

Without speaking further, he accessed the Multiversal Chat system.

A faint shimmer appeared in the air.

Then

A mechanical platform materialized with a low hum.

It was a design created earlier with Tony Stark's assistance, a reinforced equipment station fitted with multiple articulated mechanical arms meant for armored deployment.

Beside it, objects appeared one after another.

Ultramarine Primaris power armor.

Ceramite plates in disciplined blue, marked by purpose rather than decoration.

The Sister of Silence's Vratine armor, severe, austere, built for silence as much as war.

Their weapons followed.

and finally,

Golden auramite armor.

Even under warehouse lighting, it shone softly, reflecting light.

The room changed instantly.

From resting area…

to staging ground.

Gaius turned toward his warriors.

"There is your power armor," he said calmly. "Will you wear it now?"

Titus stepped forward immediately.

"Praetor," he replied, voice steady, "we will wear our armor, as to stand ready for any war."

The others moved forward without hesitation.

The three Bladeguard.

The Sister of Silence.

No discussion was needed.

Readiness was not a situation.

It was identity.

Gaius nodded once.

Expected.

The mechanical platform responded automatically to his presence.

Panels unfolded.

Mechanical arms extended outward with precise motion.

Armor pieces lifted from their stands.

The system selected Gaius's auramite armor first.

A pathway opened before him.

The boots lowered gently to the ground.

Gaius stepped into the armor.

Magnetic locks engaged with a soft metallic hum. Mechanical arms moved smoothly, attaching each piece with precision.

Greaves locked around his legs, leg plating sealed into place, and torso segments closed across his chest.

Shoulder guards settled with heavy precision, and gauntlets enclosed his hands. Each connection produced a controlled click, echoing softly through the warehouse.

Finally, the jetpack, Stark-designed and perfectly adapted to his armor, mounted onto his back. Systems synchronized instantly, power flowing through every circuit.

The golden armor came alive.

As the assembly continued, the Sister of Silence felt something shift.

A presence. Not psychic. Something deeper. Authority. Weight. A presence that reminded her of the Emperor himself.

Without thinking, she lowered to one knee.

Titus noticed. He followed.

Then the Bladeguard.

One by one, they knelt.

No command had been given. No expectation spoken.

It was instinct. Loyalty recognized.

The final mechanical arm lifted the helmet.

It presented the helm carefully, almost reverently.

Gaius stood fully armored now, golden auramite shining under the lights.

The jetpack locked firmly into place behind him.

Traveler no longer.

Commander once more.

He accepted the helmet in his hands.

For a moment, he simply looked at the kneeling warriors.

They had to grow stronger. This world was filled with unknown dangers, new enemies, and unfamiliar rules.

Silently, he made his decision. He would teach them.

Observation Haki.

Armament Haki.

Preparation would have to begin immediately.

But not tonight.

Without ceremony, he stored the helmet into his parcel system. It vanished instantly.

Titus stepped onto the platform next.

Mechanical arms began assembling his Primaris armor with efficiency.

The Bladeguard followed, each equipping shield and weapon.

The Sister of Silence donned her Vratine armor last, her silent presence becoming sharper, more defined.

Within minutes, the warehouse felt transformed.

Not a resting place.

A military staging area.

Gaius observed them all.

Satisfied.

"Then go prepare while in rest."

The words carried clear meaning.

They were to rest their bodies while keeping their minds ready. The warriors dispersed throughout the space, some settling into quiet meditation while others checked their equipment with practiced efficiency.

One remained standing near the entrance, keeping watch as the rest recovered. Even in rest, they did not abandon vigilance, soldiers trained to recover without ever truly lowering their guard.

Far away.

Beyond stars. Beyond dimensions.

Reality itself had changed. Space twisted into shapes that could not exist. Color flowed like liquid thought. Sound had form. Distance held no meaning.

This was a realm untouched by natural law, a dimension where horror existed as truth.

At its center floated something vast.

Planet-sized.

Yet alive.

At first, only tentacles could be seen, countless, stretching farther than sight allowed. Each one larger than worlds, moving slowly through distorted space.

Then,

An eye opened.

Pearl-red, shining like liquid blood.

The pupil narrowed. Something had drawn its attention, a disturbance.

One small tentacle separated from the mass.

A portal formed before it, purple energy mixed with faint blue particles.

The fragment slipped through.

Vanished.

Then it was as if something had provoked him, the entity was enraged.

The entity reacted. The entire dimension trembled. Space itself fractured, and reality cracked under its motion.

Then, stillness returned. The eye slowly closed. The massive being drifted back into slumber, though awareness remained.

It had noticed.

...

Ps. Who do you think this mysterious entity is? Hint: it's a canonical Marvel character…
