Raj slowly sat up from the bed, his body feeling weak and heavy. In his memory, he had been watching a Pokémon episode when he accidentally knocked over a glass of soda onto his laptop.

"Wait—fuck, did I just get reborn?"

Apparently, he had lived in Pallet Town since childhood with his father. A few days ago, on his tenth birthday, his father gave him a single Poké Ball and told him to go out and capture a Pokémon by himself.
Then, without much explanation, he was told to leave Pallet Town and begin his own journey.
"No way. This plot doesn't make sense," Raj muttered. "Isn't Pallet Town where ten-year-old kids get their first Pokémon from Professor Oak's lab? Why the hell would my dad make me go out and catch one on my own?"
According to the memories of this body's original owner, the boy had some talent and confidence. He believed that capturing a Pokémon directly with a Poké Ball wasn't impossible.
After all, Raj knew perfectly well how Ash once caught his own Caterpie and even tried using a stick to snag other wild Pokémon.
But those were low-level Pokémon.
This overconfident version of himself had gone straight into the forest to catch something stronger—only to provoke an entire swarm of Beedrill.
He was stung countless times, terrified half to death, and finally fainted after being scared by a mischievous Gastly that loved pranking travelers.
If his father hadn't found him in time, he probably wouldn't have made it back alive.

It suddenly made sense why his father had forced him to go catch a Pokémon alone.
He wasn't just strict—he was hardcore.

"Raj, you awake in there?"
A rough voice came from outside. The door creaked open, and a middle-aged man stepped in. His greasy black hair was slicked back, his stubble unkempt, and his shirt looked like it hadn't been washed in days.
If Raj hadn't already seen the truth through the system, he never would have guessed that this sloppy-looking farmer was actually Kenji, the original leader of Team Rocket.
Raj hesitated for a second, then nodded. "Yeah… I just woke up."
Kenji chuckled, lighting a cigarette. "Heh, you'll be fine. A man needs to handle a few setbacks. That Poké Ball I gave you's still empty, right? Go out and catch yourself a Pokémon. When I was your age, I'd already traveled half of Kanto and caught at least twenty of them."
As he spoke, a distant look crossed Kenji's eyes—memories surfacing, perhaps regrets. But when he turned back to Raj, there was only determination and a faint glimmer of pride.
"Alright, enough talk. The wheat in the fields isn't gonna harvest itself. You go catch a Pokémon you like and get out of this small town. The world's out there waiting for you."
With that, Kenji turned and walked out.
Raj stood there, twitching slightly. The body he'd inherited had just been attacked by Beedrill yesterday, and now this man expected him to head out again?
Was this what having a father meant?
Raj was beginning to have serious doubts.

"Okay, fine, but what do you mean by an 'evil' Pokémon?" Raj asked. "And what do these points even do?"

Raj rubbed his temples. As a hardcore Pokémon fan, he knew those types well—Ghost and Poison Pokémon were nightmares to train early on.
But then he remembered something: the Gastly that had scared the original boy unconscious last night.
Gastly was both Ghost and Poison type.
It evolved into Haunter, and then into Gengar—Pokémon famous for their mischievous, devilish energy.
Raj smirked.
"Alright then," he said with a grin. "My first Pokémon… will be that Gastly."
