[You have taken another Step toward Ascension. Congratulations!]
[You are now a Step IV, Bearer of Stillness]
"Is that so…?"
Ashen almost laughed the moment the epithet name resonated in his mind.
'Stillness? I think I know it well enough already…'
As if in answer, the cinderbearer's flame stirred.
His eyes dulled, drifting inward, sinking into his inner sanctum where the faceless man marched on without end.
There, he saw it.
The once-golden flame was changing slowly but steadily. With each step the figure took, its color percolated toward white.
But Ashen wasn't truly watching the flame.
His thoughts had already slipped elsewhere… back to a time when he had no choice but to remain still. A hundred years beneath unmoving weight, with no voice, motion, or escape.
Only time… and himself.
He didn't know what the epithet demanded of him.
But that century beneath the rock—
He had lived it… endured it and then… Became it.
As far as he was concerned… he had long since been its bearer.
"I guess that century wasn't as meaningless as I make it out to be." He managed a faint smile.
Aside from that, there were no visible changes from his ascension yet, aside from the increased quality of his life force. That was normal; changes always happened over time after ascension.
What people were supposed to gain on this step was an extra sense suitable for their Sin, but Ashen had already gotten that when he was an Idle Chronicler.
But that did not mean that nothing had changed.
'Status.'

Path Skill: Vital Stillness
A passive evolutionary dominion that governs the restoration of body, spirit, and soul through stillness.
The host's existence enters a state of quiet equilibrium, where motion is treated as disruption and stillness as perfection.
Flesh mends, energy replenishes, and fractures within the spirit and soul are soothed and realigned, not through effort, but through the absence of it. Turbulent emotions settle, mental fatigue dissolves, and spiritual damage is gradually erased as the host remains undisturbed.
The effectiveness of this restoration scales inversely with disturbance.
Vital Stillness operates continuously across all states, including rest, sleep, and Trance, preserving the host as a self-correcting existence anchored in quietude.
Traits:
Total Restoration Field – Body, spirit, and soul are passively repaired and stabilized without conscious effort.
Sanctuary of Silence – Emotional turbulence and mental strain are calmed and dissolved through stillness, accelerating inner recovery.
Stillness Amplification – The deeper the host's stillness, the more potent and complete the restoration becomes, approaching near-perfect renewal.
Disturbance Penalty – Physical exertion, mental overactivity, or emotional instability disrupt the process, reducing efficiency proportionally.
"Why struggle to heal, when even the soul remembers how to be still?"
❖⛧❖
Path Skill: Sensory Lull
An active-passive hybrid ability that converts sensory stillness into amplification of power.
The host may "still" a chosen sense, halting its intake entirely, creating a vacuum where perception once flowed.
This absence is not a loss, but a compression. The suppressed sensory channel condenses its unused potential, redirecting it to enhance another faculty, technique, or conceptual output.
The longer a sense remains stilled, the greater the accumulated amplification.
Traits:
Sensory Suppression – The host can voluntarily disable one or more senses, entering a state of controlled perceptual stillness.
Conversion of Absence – Disabled senses generate latent energy that enhances other abilities, techniques, or mental processes.
Focused Amplification – The fewer active senses remain, the more concentrated and powerful the enhancement becomes.
"When the world goes silent… You will finally speak."
❖⛧❖
Trait: Soul Bastion
A foundational trait denoting a soul of exceptional integrity and resilience.
The host's soul exists as a self-reinforcing structure, resistant to external influence and capable of gradual self-restoration when damaged.
Foreign entities, invasive energies, and conceptual corruption encounter natural resistance upon contact, as the soul instinctively rejects what does not belong. Direct soul-based attacks are dampened, their effects reduced as the structure absorbs and disperses the impact across its entirety.
When injured, the soul undergoes slow but consistent regeneration, mending fractures and restoring cohesion over time without external aid. This restoration is not rapid, but it is unwavering.
The density and stability of the soul grant it an expanded capacity, allowing the host to bear and integrate a greater number of concepts without destabilization.
Instead of fracturing under the might of numerous concepts, the Soul Bastion endures and accommodates.
"A fragile soul defends itself. A steadfast one simply does not yield."
❖⛧❖
Trait: Inner Chorus
A trait denoting a single soul inhabited by multiple distinct personalities, each possessing its own identity, thoughts, and voice, coexisting within the same mental and spiritual space.
"Not one self… but many, sharing a single name."

"Hmm… finally."
The first thing Ashen honed in on was his condition. It had finally shed the permanent damage tag and was replaced with a neat "healthy."
His face turned wistful for a brief moment as he remembered how much he had suffered due to his damaged circuits. Now, above simply healing, they had jumped in quality so much that the Mana-Kissed skill evolved into a trait of its own.
"All thanks to the Origin Blood. All hail the mighty primordials~" Ashen grinned happily.
And it wasn't solely due to his circuits. The Origin Blood had invigorated his soul alongside his body. He was sure that his silent Twin Soul had also felt it, since that guy was the one with the injured soul.
As for him… he gained a new trait in Soul Bastion.
As he read the description, he was glad to see that he had finally acquired the means to defend himself from attacks that targeted the soul directly, aside from the benefit of self-healing and increased capacity.
"Now that I think about it… If Soul Bastion allows me to hold more concepts at the same time, then that means there's some kind of limit in the first place."
It was only logical in retrospect. If the body had a capacity, so would the soul. They were two faces of the same coin, after all.
Next was his title. It had upgraded from Tidebreaker to Paradoxtide, but Ashen did not pay it too much attention. This particular avenue of power was too willful for his taste; Tidebreaker had only manifested once, and he did not know how to call upon it at will.
It was the same for this new title, which he had probably gained after breaking the loop.
'I remember how my Twin Soul easily called upon two titles though, so it's probably me who is doing something wrong…'
He did not linger on that. His eyes settled on the Path Skill section, where an additional skill and an evolved skill were newly displayed.
Vital Stillness had kept all of Vital Drift's functionalities but also evolved to extend those same benefits to his soul, which Ashen was glad for. He had no complaints about this one.
'Sensory Lull though…'
This was the first time he had gotten a skill of this nature, where he had to sacrifice something to gain in return, so he wasn't sure if this was a hit or a miss.
"I'll have to test it out to be sure anyhow…"
The next section was Other Skills, where the powers he had gained as the Time Magician were proudly displayed. Ashen was especially proud of Time Magic, which had already reached the Zenith stage due to integrating his newly learned concept, the Lethargy of Time.
The concept in question had long passed the Glimpse stage and reached Resonance. That was bound to happen since it was arguably his most used concept in the last seven hundred years.
"..."
After seeing everything, Ashen was forced to focus on the sole remaining thing and ruin his jolly mood.
"Haah…"
Inner Chorus.
He didn't even get to be glad at losing the Liminar Dreamer trait before he got another one that made him seem even crazier.
"One goes, another comes right after," he shook his head in bitterness. "I guess having a few screws loose is just my fate at this point."
Lifting his face, he saw the sun dip below the window's horizon. Ashen decided to stop lingering and check on his people.
He barely took two steps toward the bedroom door before it swung open on its own.
Alice walked in.
