Jay-Jay's POV

It had only been ten minutes since Yuri disappeared, but I couldn't shake the worry. He was still my friend. I tried to text him a quick "Where are you?" but no reply came. Minutes passed. The silence felt heavier each second—until my phone finally buzzed.

Of course, it was from the Rooster 🐔.

📩 From Pres. Yuri[Don't worry, I'm already home. I had an urgent case. Do you want me to pick you up and drop you at Angelo's house?]

Weird. He never said what the "urgent" thing was, and he never went home without telling me first. I typed back quickly.

📩 To Pres. Yuri[Why didn't you tell me or text me?]

His reply came almost right away.

📩 From Pres. Yuri[I'm sorry, Jay. It was urgent.]

I didn't bother answering. I was annoyed—he could've at least told me something. Twenty-one minutes gone, and only now he explains?

"Jay!" Drew called. "Yuri's already home—he texted me." He showed me his screen. I just nodded.

"Well, it's time for me to go home," I said.

Inside Drew's house, I met Marianne and Drew's mom."Bye, Marianne—and Miss, uh…" I froze, realizing I didn't know her name. "Let's just call you Drew's mom for now?" I smiled awkwardly. "D-Drew's mom!"

They laughed, waving back.

"Bye, Drew!"

"Bye, Jay!" he waved, grinning.

Outside, I hailed a taxi and reached home faster than I expected. Still, I knew I'd get an earful from Kuya Angelo.

The moment I stepped inside, his annoyed face greeted me."Where were you?" he asked, trying to stay calm.

I stayed silent. He kept asking question after question, but I refused to answer. Honestly, I'd been dealing with too much lately, so—

I ran straight to my room. Slammed the door. Then burst out laughing. Like, really laughing—the-neighbors-might-hear-me type. I kept hitting the floor because everything felt absurd.

When I finally calmed down, I grabbed a hoodie and shorts for a shower. The water was freezing, so cold I thought I'd turn into ice. Afterward, I checked my phone.

"7:18 p.m.? Wow, time's flying," I muttered, scrolling through Messenger. Three messages from Aries.

📩 From Aries[Where were you?]

📩 From Aries[Tell me that YOU were not with Keifer.]

📩 From Aries[Please tell me—I won't tell Kuya, please!]

That "YOU" in all caps? Dramatic much. 🙄

And please? Yeah right—he's literally Kuya Angelo's partner-in-crime.

Still, a brilliant idea struck. I waited until 7:30 and sent:

📩 To AriesBring me snacks and food after dinner, then I'll tell you why I was late.

He replied almost instantly.

📩 From AriesWhy should I believe you? What if you're lying?

Oh, he wants to play that game? Fine.

📩 To AriesI'm not lying, promise!

Minutes passed before his answer came.

📩 From AriesFine.

Yes! Victory. 🏆And if you're wondering whether I planned to tell him the truth? Oh heck no. I was just messing with him. 😌

Thirty minutes later—still no knock. Was my brother eating half the kitchen? Six more minutes passed before I finally heard one.

I opened the door to find him standing there, arms full of snacks and food. They looked really good.

"Now tell me," he said, handing them over.

I placed the food on my bed and turned back with my most serious face. "The reason I was late was…" I paused dramatically—then slammed the door right in his face.

And yes, I laughed again. Hard. Like can't-breathe, rolling-on-the-floor hard. After a while, I started eating while scrolling through social media.

Then I opened my gallery and saw a photo of Keifer and me. I sighed. I really missed him. Just as I set the phone down, a message popped up.

📩 From King_BingiI miss you 😆

Aww. I missed him too.

📩 To King_Bingi🙂

My reply looked so plain. I tried to delete it, but he'd already seen it.

📩 From King_Bingi🙂 = I miss you too, so you really miss me, don't you?

I giggled. This idiot was right.

📩 To King_BingiYou're so full of yourself.

We ended up texting for over four hours. Somewhere between memes and nonsense, my snack stash disappeared.

"Ugh, nooo, I'm still hungry," I groaned, checking the time.12:54 a.m.?! I'd been chatting for five hours?!

Still, it was fun. Totally worth it.

I decided to sneak downstairs for more food."No one will ever know, hehe," I whispered, tiptoeing down the stairs. The lights were off.

I opened the fridge—so many ice-cream boxes."Woah," I breathed, grabbing one. I closed the door—
