Chapter 65 - Chimera Knights

Doctor Foster was now a young boy about ten years old. To Cate's shock, the little boy was busy cutting into a cat. The cat was still alive and trying to get free, but it had been properly restrained. Cate watched as the young boy cut its stomach open. The screams the cat let out left Cate with yet another memory that would haunt her for a very long time. The young boy was very meticulous in his actions. This was clearly not the first time he had done something like this. In a matter of minutes, the cat was in pieces, and the boy smiled with pride at his great achievement.

Bang, another explosion went off in Cate's mind. This time around, Doctor Foster was in his early teens. He was a handsome young man with well-trimmed hair. He wore a suit that showed his great status. From the fashion, this was the 1700s. The architecture and the people appeared to be British. Doctor Foster was in some sort of school filled with equally pampered fools. He was the best in their school, and everyone knew it. He was also from the wealthiest family. He had a gang of other teenagers who followed him around like dogs. Cate watched the young man study, fall in love for the first time, and do all sorts of things, including going to the bathroom. This time, Cate was not pulled from the memory so fast.

Doctor Foster was a very difficult and unusual kid for his time. He was clearly a psychopath, but none of that mattered. The young man continued cutting things open. At one time, he even bought a cow for his dissection. He bullied the weak and tormented his teachers. When Doctor Foster was accepted into Oxford, the students at his former school and the teachers were all glad to be rid of him.

Bang, Cate was pulled into another memory. This time around, Cate was shaken by what was going on. Doctor Foster was heavily thrusting into a woman who was on all fours like a dog. Their breathing was heavy and animated. The room smelled like sex and sin. "Fuck me harder," the woman cried out. Doctor Foster answered her pleas with more powerful thrusts. He even went as far as smacking her round butt. Cate did not know how to feel about this situation. The two went at it for over an hour. They tried so many positions that even Cate, who had lived for so long, was impressed by their carnal knowledge.

As Cate watched the subsequent memories, she learned that Doctor Foster was now at Oxford. He was a student, and the woman he was sleeping with was the wife of the university chancellor. For some reason, Doctor Foster gathered all the information he could about the chancellor. This was after John started sleeping with the chancellor's wife. Cate had a bad feeling about this situation. The year was 1715, and the chancellor was James Butler, the Duke of Ormonde. The duke's wife was Lady Mary Somerset. The duke loved her very much, but she seemed to love Doctor Foster more. At Oxford, Foster got to dissect things as much as he wanted in his anatomy class. He had a beautiful woman he enjoyed fucking and a litany of corpses for him to perfect his craft.

Bang, in the next memory, Foster had become a real doctor, and he had already been brought into the fold by his father. Doctor Foster was now a member of the Chimera Project. He was in charge of research on vampires. Even though they did not have a single specimen for study at that time, Doctor Foster believed that his future was bright. He put a lot of effort into trying to capture a vampire for his study. He wanted the long lifespan of these creatures more than anything. The doctor found a group of vampire hunters and began working with them.

It was now the year 1719. Doctor Foster had used the information he gathered about Duke James. This information allowed Doctor Foster to frame the duke with treason. Doctor Foster had hoped that the due would be executed, but the man was wise enough to flee into exile before that could happen. Doctor Foster now had Lady Mary Somerset all to himself. Even though they could not get married, John was happy with his current life.

Bang, Cate suddenly opened her eyes, and she was back in the hall where she had killed and eaten Doctor Foster, who had managed to live for over 200 years. Wahahahahaha. Cate suddenly felt as though her head was being split open by an unstoppable force. Her brain was on fire, and her life was reaching its end. She felt a flood of new information fill her mind. This was information from Doctor Foster. Information from something like how to most effectively dissect a corpse to the things Cate needed right now, such as the plan for the entire base, and this included information about the artifact that had led the Chimera Project to set up a base in this place.

Cate's mind was flooded with information, experience, and feelings for about ten minutes. When she finally regained her bearings, Cate no longer looked at the things around her as though they were foreign. This was as familiar to her as her own hands. This was all that she had gotten from the old man, and Cate felt that she knew more about the Chimera project than the old man who had given her all the information she had. Cate stood up but did not walk away. She stayed in place with her mind filled with thoughts of the artifact that these humans had gotten their hands on. Cate could not understand how such a thing was possible. She was shaken and flabbergasted at the same time. She also felt excitement the more she thought about what these humans had been hiding.

From the old man's memories, the Chimera Project founded an archeological dig in the early 1900s, and in that dig, they discovered a key. The golden key appeared normal by all measures except for the fact that no one could remove it from the place where it was found. The humans did not know what they had found, but they understood its value. Since they could not move the key, the Chimera Project set up a base over the site and kept it a restricted area for all this time. They set over many scientists and researchers over the years, and the combined effort of these people, including Doctor Foster, led to the creation of the Chimera Knights.

These were the soldiers who had attacked the outpost. The knowledge gained by the Chimera Project from studying the key allowed them to create a way to harness magic power without having the blood of the Old Ones. They also used this knowledge to create the rest of the armor adorned by the Chimera Knights. This was only the beginning of what they wanted to achieve with the knowledge from the key. They altered the Chimera Knights on a genetic level, increasing their speed, strength, and heightening all their senses, such as sight. They had plans of further increasing the power of the armor and the abilities of the Chimera Knights.

Cate was shaken by these achievements, but this information was nothing compared to the fact that she had just found one of the Twelve Keys of Chaos. The keys were the only things that could be used to open the Vault of Soul. This vault was a treasure from a time before chaos. It was said that whomever managed to open it would be granted power rivaling the gods and life eternal. For someone like Cate who wanted to kill the gods, this was the kind of power she needed to get her hands on. For this reason, Cate had been searching for the keys for as long as she could remember.

She had failed in her original life as Medusa, but in this life, she seemed to be moving towards getting what she wanted. The keys are divided into four sets: the Keys of Past, Present, Future, and Destiny. Cate was the master of the Wandering Palace, and this meant that she already had one of the twelve keys. One of the keys of Destiny. This key was the core of the Wandering Palace. From the image in the old man's memories, Cate understood that the artifact these humans had was another of the four keys of destiny. If Cate were to get her hands on this key, she would have two of the twelve keys of Chaos. The reason for Cate joining Avalon was to get her hands on the keys that the organization had. Her excitement as she descended deeper into the base could not be contained.
