Chapter 15 - Sore Throat

Sometimes, instead of being too proactive, it's better to try being passive.

Connors clasped his hands behind his head, watching the big star Xue Xi and thinking leisurely.

But time didn't allow him to waste it like this. It was obvious what Silk Cindy's purpose was in coming to find him today, and she hadn't succeeded yet.

Penguin and Bane, Scarecrow's two accomplices, were still nowhere to be found. Connors wasn't willing to miss the chance to watch the drama unfold.

So he decisively left, not forgetting to weave two sets of clothes from plants before leaving, one for Xue Xi and one for himself.

Bane didn't cause any commotion, but during the madness with Xue Xi just now, he learned that Penguin was still trying to bomb the Stadium's outer ice with artillery fire.

Unfortunately, by the time he arrived at the scene, all that was left was a mess on the ground, bullet casings, and shattered ice shards everywhere, but no sign of Penguin.

He was probably captured by Wayne first. It's a pity I missed out on this drama... Connors felt a bit regretful.

The system showed that the Joker's "Laughing Man" event was still ongoing, but the villains he had encountered so far had all been captured by Batman.

The temptation of reward upgrades made Connors decide that he would either actively contact other villains to see if anyone was part of the Joker's plan.

Or he would go find the places where the Joker, Riddler, Scarecrow, and others were imprisoned, and personally ensure the event continued.

He had originally planned to let the event end completely today, but it seemed impossible now. This is what they call plans not keeping up with changes...

Connors looked at the bullet casings left on the ground, shook his head, and sighed. Then, quite curious, he squatted down and reached out to pick up a casing.

As a Heavenly Dynasty citizen, he naturally didn't have many chances to see real firearms on Earth. After transmigrating, Harley Quinn used a baseball bat, Batman relied on his fists and feet, and Cindy Moon used Silk, so he still didn't have many opportunities to touch real firearms.

Curiosity lasted for two seconds before his Spider-Sense started warning him. At the same time, Connors heard a faint "click" in his ears.

Even if he hadn't eaten pork, he had seen the pig run. Especially when he turned around and saw a short man pointing a gun at him, he knew without thinking that it was the sound of a firearm's safety being disengaged.

"Bro... can we talk about this?"

He only had time to say "Bro" before the short man was kicked away by the suddenly appearing Silk Cindy Moon.

Connors estimated that he was at least ten meters away.

Cindy Moon's kick was comparable to a car hitting someone with the accelerator floored, and because the contact area was smaller, Connors could even see that the guy who flew out had already been split into two in mid-air.

"You..." Connors looked at Cindy, unsure of what to say for a moment.

He had several ways to subdue the short man with the gun and was planning to use the opportunity to ask about Penguin, the Joker, and others. But instead, Cindy's kick directly took him out.

He certainly wouldn't blame her. After all, in Cindy's eyes, he was genuinely being held at gunpoint, and she just wanted to save him.

"Does... your foot hurt?"

After a long time, Connors could only manage to squeeze out this sentence.

Cindy Moon shook her head. Ignoring her constantly rising and falling chest and eyes that seemed to well up with moisture, she was still just a quiet young girl.

— A young girl who could kick someone into two pieces with one kick.

Even though Cindy Moon didn't speak, from her constant fidgeting and increasingly rapid breathing, Connors could still understand her meaning and quickly refused:

"Not now... Tonight, definitely tonight!"

After speaking, without waiting for Cindy's reply, he quickly ran towards the direction of the short man she had kicked away.

His Spider-Sense detected that the guy wasn't completely dead yet and still had some value.

...

"Mm..."

Poison Ivy let out a muffled groan, joining the fingers of her right hand like a knife, and fiercely plunged them into her heart.

"Ivy, what are you doing?" Harley Quinn exclaimed somewhat panicked.

While Poison Ivy was imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, Harley did indeed provide the Joker with various weapons to help him escape, but during her interactions with the inmates, she also established a good relationship with Ivy.

After Harley, who planned to pull off a big job and face Penguin alone, was discovered and taken away by Poison Ivy, she noticed Ivy's unusually pained appearance along the way.

By the time they reached Gotham Forest, Ivy had rooted her feet underground and plunged her five fingers into her heart like knives.

"Don't worry, little Harley." Poison Ivy pulled out her fingers and said somewhat weakly to Harley Quinn, "It's just a small way to suppress my abilities."

Harley Quinn was even more confused:

"But why suppress your abilities?"

"This way I don't have to be in agony all the time." Poison Ivy returned to her slender appearance and sat in a chair formed by plant growth.

Harley's question marks grew:

"What agony?"

A blush flashed across Poison Ivy's face. How could she tell Harley about this?

Tell her that spring had arrived, everything was recovering, and it was the mating season?

"Don't worry about it, Harley. I'm happy that you finally broke free from the Joker. How is it, is the air of freedom fresher?"

Harley Quinn was originally full of curiosity, but after Poison Ivy changed the subject, she also became troubled:

"No, I haven't broken free. Today, Scarecrow even said something like 'I'm just a minion of the Joker'. Damn it, except for Connors, everyone thinks that!"

"...Oh, and you, Ivy. You are the one, besides Connors, who truly sees me as an independent individual."

Who is Connors?

The doubt in Ivy's heart flashed past, but in her eyes, other humans were far less important than plants, except for Harley, so she quickly dismissed it.

She knew that Harley Quinn hadn't finished speaking yet, so she chimed in:

"So?"

"So I want to pull off a big job! I want to turn Gotham upside down! Until they name a highway after me."

"?" Poison Ivy didn't understand what pulling off a big job had to do with naming a highway.

"This way, when those rich people in Gotham are driving on the road, they'll think, 'There's a woman named Harley Quinn here, absolutely don't mess with her, she's more evil than any villain in Gotham'!"

Harley Quinn excitedly painted a picture for Poison Ivy.

"...Haha." Ivy laughed awkwardly twice.

...

Xue Xi proposed cancelling the next few days of her concert schedule to her agent. The blonde, blue-eyed agent immediately became anxious:

"Cancel? Why?"

"My throat hurts." Xue Xi said expressionlessly.

"I'm sorry, it's my fault for not paying attention to your physical condition in time. I'll go buy some medicine and make you a hot coffee later..."

The agent was a young man with a hooked nose. Hearing Xue Xi say her throat hurt, he changed from his earlier frantic behavior to expressing concern.

This was the best opportunity to win the heart of this big star! How did that Eastern saying go? Strike while he's sick, take his... no, the pavilion near the water gets the moon first!

The agent was ecstatic inside, but on his face, he displayed the perfect amount of worry.

Especially when he saw his goddess Xue Xi's pretty face slightly red, he secretly clenched his fists, feeling that he was just one step away from success.
