Faded God POV
The team is watching the super major we couldn't attend. Ebony's interview just finished, and Rocket Fire just left the room absolutely pissed off. She's such a pop believer, and she's now cooling down outside. It's near winter, so it's easier now. Soon enough, the next leg of the race began.
The only reason I'm interested in this team is that our new team sponsor is dead set on beating them. His name is Thor Au, our biggest sponsor in terms of cash. He has improved our equipment, training, and situation by a hundredfold. He had a goal of handing the Broncos their first race losses. Especially Chestnut who he absolutely hated.
This was interesting, and I wanted to do so as well. I made it a team goal to hand the Bloody Broncos their first loss. Everyone was excited, and now we're watching their performance to find weaknesses. Nothing so far on Cobalt, Ivory, and Ruby. Chestnut, we have some data, and Ebony, we have a lot.
That's when Rocket Fire came back in and asked me quietly," Captain, can I get Ebony on race day?" She was serious, and I smiled, saying," Only if you can win." She smirked and hugged me, saying," Thanks, captain!" She then left, skipping back to her seat. That was weird.
I soon began watching the race again and saw Captain Primrose. She's the captain, alright, watching her in her race at Wellington with how she protected her teammate and how she took responsibility for her team. She was their captain, and she acted like one. The fact that she's also one of the coolest people I've ever seen is also a plus. She soon ran, and soon we all saw how adaptable she is.
She ran on dirt as well as any surface. Her skills are being used perfectly and efficiently. Then she stays calm even as she runs, keeping the same pace the whole time. She doesn't look back, and she doesn't bother with those behind her who are just now getting out of their gates. She was already past the halfway point, and only then did she start to slow down.
She recovered her stamina before accelerating, extending her team's lead by a lot. She didn't do a finishing kick or anything special. She just used fundamentals to crush her opponent. Soon enough, she clicked the button and finished her race. Eventually, Onyx came out, and the interviewers came.
They gave her water and a towel before beginning their questions. They asked Primrose," Captain, do you have any comments after that dominant performance?" She didn't react like her teammates; she wasn't egotistical or excited. She only responded calmly," Dominant? It was nothing special."
She then walked off, with everyone impressed with her aura. Dragon Snow even responded," Damn, how can someone be this cool?" The camera followed her as she walked to her team and saw her greet them and ask how everyone was when she was gone. She didn't notice the drone following her, and we saw how great a captain she was even off camera. Soon the camera turned back to the race, and I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket.
I took it out and saw Thor calling me. I left the room and answered, "Hey, Thor, what's up?" He answered," Hello Fade, I just got off a call with one of my connections. Good news, you guys got more money, experts, and equipment coming your way." This was amazing, but being a realist, I asked," What's the catch, Thor?" Thor answered," They wanted us to add Ebony to our main target list; now we have Ebony, Chestnut, and Amber as absolutely must-defeat targets."
I nodded and told him," Great, Rocket Fire has been wanting to deal with Ebony. I'll tell her the good news." Thor answered," Good, now I'll send more training data your way. Especially ones I obtained from a certain genius that I know." I then asked," Genius, who and is the research any good?"
Thor soon told me," The research is revolutionary, and if Jo does reveal to the world her research, it's probably outdated compared to her current research. The fact that I can obtain it is a miracle in itself. Say, if you don't believe me, read it and see for yourself." I agreed, and he sent the research. I already believe in Thor by how confident he was, but as a captain, I have to check it for myself."
Victory Gate POV
The new gates looked interesting, which I knew they made because of what we did last time. Did we cause so much trouble last time that they had to make this? Oh man, this makes me and my team look like a bunch of assholes. Still, I have to lock in and get my head in the game. Today I'm probably working with the three most problematic people on my team when it comes to on-the-field antics.
The others have problems, yes, but these three on the field cause a lot of problems. BlaD just pissed off the Cult again and even did a music performance before the race. Rain, she's going to burn our lead for an honorable competition in the spirit of youth I just know it, and Sweets, oh, she's going to do the same but to fuck with people. Still, I believe they can win, so I allowed them to be leg 3 and anchor of the relay race. I just went with the flow, and after one guitar performance, the race began.
Soon BlaD did well I'm proud of her, and she let me out of that tight pod. We were all in there, and I liked bonding with my team, but I'm filing a complaint to at least just opening the back gates of the pod for some breathing room. Once I was out, I began to run, looking calm as a cucumber on the outside. On the inside, it's a different story. It's my turn to run, and I need to not mess up like last time.
I'm not going to do a finishing kick cause last time I was made fun of for messing up and got in trouble for hurting myself. I'll just use skills I learned from the coach some basic stuff. First, I used concentration, a basic skill, to not get a late start. Then Killer Tunes to get my positioning right, man, I have to actually use skills to get proper positioning I'm a fucking loser. Soon, I used Corner Connoisseur and Professor of Curvature to get my corners right.
I was starting to get tired, so I used Breath of Fresh Air and Track Blazer. Then, once I got some energy back, I used Beeline Burst and Rushing Gale, running all the way to the last corner. There I used the same skills earlier plus Unrestrained and Swinging Maestro. I exited to the last strait using Restless, Master of Sands, Clairvoyance, Rushing Gale, Nothing Ventured, and Flash Forward. Soon I finished the race, I must have looked like a nervous mess spamming skills like that.
I clicked the button and seeing Rain not running proved my theory earlier. She was not running until everyone's gates opened. I just sighed and walked away I didn't want to make a scene and get back to our area as soon as possible. Still, I was pulled aside by the interview team, who were looking at me with glowing eyes. They must be excited about getting something good from the best team.
That's right, I might not be confident in myself, but I'm confident in my team. Especially when they need me most. I look around I I drank the water they gave me, and everyone was speechless since I arrived. Probably because they saw Rain hadn't left the pod yet. The questioning began, and the first question was," Captain, do you have any comments after that dominant performance?"
Dominant, what is she talking about? Is she trying to be nice, or is she baiting me into giving a response that they could use against me? You know what, I'll just be honest and I'll regret it later. I calmly responded," Dominant? It was nothing special."
That was my honest answer as I didn't know what was so special about my run. I just used skills everyone knows and uses while running, trying not to fuck up again. Soon everyone was speechless, and I'm going to be roasted so hard online. Better stay away from social media forever. I soon walked back, greeted everyone, and acted normally like I always did.
That's when ImP came to me with the most impressed face, yelling," Bro, that was crazy. How the fuck did you use all rare skills in a race?" Rare Skills? I thought I was using regular skills the whole time. I don't want to get in any more trouble, so I'll keep my mouth shut and smile innocently as if it were a mistake.
