"Contrary to what he imagined the captain turned out to be different, he was very caring yes but that made him a bit wary of him, he smiled and watched Ash for a while allowing him to gather himself before leading him to a large field which was the supposed ' drill field ' where every one of them seemed occupied doing one thing or the other.
He led him to across the field asking question and lecturing " im not sure on how i will be able to do this so I have a simple question for you kid ….. what do you think is the job of the people in the Marksman division ? " he asked not looking at Ash who didn't seem confused giving the only answer he could think of "they act as scouts in battles " Ash replied spotting a table filled with ranged weapons from bow and arrows to sniper rifles and Marksman, some were being handled by other soldiers who were training with dummies who had holes in them like they had been punctured by large nails and removed continuously.
" you are not wrong but at the same time you are not right, in a sense we have scouts but that is one of the different part of the Marksman Division ..... " he said with a pause scratching his head as if trying to find the proper words to use and make him understand " the Marksman is mainly about be covert as that is our core we have, but make use of flexibility to the best of our ability ...… here you can be a an stealth fighter like an assasain of some sort or you can be a ranged fighter like that girl with Hazel eyes you have been staring at for a while now who somehow still miss her shot by a few centimeters " he said not even looking drawing his attention back.
He was indeed staring at someone what wasn't too far away holding a sniper rifle firing at a trainig dummy, the sound it released was deafening but somehow had no effect on him, didn't take him too much to notice that he was being protected by captain Kurt " bad posture " Ash replied in a whisper half consciously as they continued on their way. Kurt, on his own, wore a surprised expression as he knew that Ash was right; the girl had a bad posture when firing, while she always hated going prone or using other means.
"I'm surprised you noticed that ….. not everyone here has the eyes to see that much, " Kurt said casually, making Ash realise his blunder and curse inwardly " I sometimes know some things, maybe it's because I spent most of my time reading, " Ash lied calmly, which wasn't completely a lie, but at the same time wasn't true.
The reading part was a total lie that even an idiot won't buy. There was no chance that Kurt would believe him; he was saying the truth when he claimed to know things that had happened, albeit rarely. Still, when it happens, he always tries to take advantage of it, which doesn't usually work out, and it's not like he was going to tell his captain that he had lived other lives before this one. ' I'm going to look insane, ' that thought crossed his mind, but sometimes crazy was better.
" I feel like you've had arms training before.
" no "
"You are lying. "
" no "
" I'm sure of it I just don't know you " Kurt tried to probe but Ash replied sharply not giving him a chance, not wanting to probe any further he decided to continue on his way " since you came late there are a lot you would have to cover as a recruit which I'm supposed be the one to do, but I'm too tired to do so " he said lazily stretching his hand ' or too Lazy to do so ' Ash didn't dare to test the waters and say his mind but it looked so.
" I won't be offended if you say I'm lazy because I'm a very much that kind of person, " Kurt said. Almost as he thought about it, he threw a suspicious look at him, only to meet a lazy look, " don't give me that look ….. I can't read minds, but it's written all over your face." Ash didn't reply, turning his attention now to a group that formed a circle shielding two people who seemed to be engaged in a duel, both wielding a dagger.
One of them seemed to be very engrossed in the duel trying to overpower each other, one was clean to some extent not having much to show that he was even fighting, the other was obviously battered and tired, slow steps and attack, his foot work was at this time looked unrefined and he was scavenging for pace trying to keep up with the tempo that the other had set. It was obviously a one-sided battle with the strong bullying the weak, very similar to what Ken would have done to him in the revenge duel.
"You should know that the weak crumble in the presence of the strong .... Depending on how powerful you become, you might survive. Kurt's words brought him back; he didn't need anyone to tell him twice; Sir Nicholas had told him the same thing in the past. Now he was being told again that it was a sign that he had to buckle up and increase his effort.
Soon they got arrived where a small group of soldiers were chatting leisurely, as soon as they arrived the atmosphere turned tense with all the soldiers turned quiet, all attention were now on them but all eyes were on him " I need someone to volunteer to teach our recruit aand bring him up to speed with everything that he needs to know " Kurt said casually in a tone that didn't carry authority, it was obvious that he was friendly with his men making him relax.
The group remained quiet for a little while as no one seemed to be willing to handle the job, the silence soon grew awkward just as Ash lost all hope a voice called out " I can handle him " the voice brought a little hope at the same time was familiar giving him a bad feeling, it was only until he saw the person in question did he realize why he felt that way " we meet again "
