Chapter 17 - CHAPTER 17

"Of all days, it had to be today, "Kurt blurted out tiredly as he left the drill field. It hadn't been long since he arrived, and now he was bombarded with work that he didn't even plan for.

He just needed rest, like a really long time in bed, but the bastion had other plans, throwing him into training the second batch of soldiers, and when he thought he had his hands full, a recruit was added a few minutes ago, and worse still, he was still a child, which was what pissed him off even more.

He cursed as he walked fuming and barely keeping himself in check, but all that pent-up anger faded as soon as he walked into the hall; in front of him was a kid who didn't quite look like what he was told. The description read skinny and weak, but what he was seeing seemed to be a healthy child, riddled with small cuts, and was basically staring at a certain part of the wall's inside.

He took silent steps, mainly to surprise but also to observe who was sent to his training hall. The child in question had grey hair, light brown skin, grey-bluish eyes, and a somewhat healthy body. It was when he was a few steps away that he noticed the face was pale, too pale to be normal, even the eyes seemed to have lost all their life.

He didn't need anyone to tell him that the child was in a trance and probably was locked in a mental attack. Without wasting time, he reached out to the child, placing his hand on the child's shoulder, carefully using his essence to try to cancel out the interference, freeing him from his state.

Just as this happened the child turned towards him, his eyes were calm and somewhat dull and at the same time felt wrong stared into it suddenly overwhelmed by the feeling of dread, the kind that he couldn't shake off easily, very much close to fear at the same time was like a premonition like he was staring into something that he shouldn't and he didn't want to test himself in any way taking his attention away but that feeling kept bugging him.

It took a little while for him to shake off the foreign feeling before bringing his attention back to him. "Are you alright?" he asked, watching the eyes of the child return to normal, but the face still retained the same pale attribute. He looked around himself, confused, obviously still recovering from whatever he just escaped from.

"huh "

"Huh?" Ash looked around, trying to shake the sudden change off. He was suddenly free and back in the hall, but this time he was standing at the center of the hall instead of the bench at the side, and someone was behind him with a bewildered look. "Huh, " the subtle words escaped his mouth as he tried to understand exactly where he was.

That was when it happened.

He suddenly lost balance feeling as if the world was spinning, very similar to what happened when he first felt the mental attack but this time it was nauseous, even his legs gave out going down without any strength to get back up " ill be damned " Ash managed to curse in a low tone barely out of breath, he turned after a little while to see the man who had a bewildered look on his face obviously confused as to why he looked like that.

"You seem sick ... are you alright ?" the man asked, but Ash couldn't answer, shaking his head and taking in large packets of air, looking more wasted than someone who was chased by monsters.

A warm feeling began to envelope him, and he began to regain his energy. Back, didn't take him any guess to know that it was the captain's doing as he had his hand on his forehead. "What about now ?" he asked, giving a pitiful look, but Ash didn't reply immediately, trying to sit first and collect himself.

"I'm not sure …. But I don't feel like I'm dying yet, " Ash replied, now being surprised he was expecting a scoff or a harsh remark, but he had an expression that showed concern and worry 'Yeah, I think im going to die soon ' he considered trying to feel his body and with the little energy he accumulated managed to get on his butt.

" was the training that difficult ?" the man asked giving him a pitiful look, Ash managed to crane his head to give him a proper observation, this man looked like one in his early thirties but not looking too young or too old at the moment having a clean face devoid of hair showcasing this well chisel chin that went well with his fair skin and green eyes but neither the less he was tall which was not a surprise all adults he had met were tall but strangely he gave him the feeling that he was towering over him even though from his point of view was not to low.

He snapped out of his daze, looking at his feet. " It was not that much, I have endured Captain Kruger's hell, I can manage myself," Ash replied sincerely, knowing that he was somewhat telling the truth. Yes, Kruger training was harrowing; somehow, he survived for a few weeks, but this was worse.

Moreover, in a somewhat mysterious manner, he was barely keeping himself conscious, with just pure willpower alone; the little energy he had before had now been almost sapped dry by the strange vision or whatever it could be called, leaving him weaker than he was when he first arrived.

" I see … that means you are not normal then it might be easier then " he said in a tone giving him a meaningful as If contemplating what to do with him "what's with everyone and that curious look " Ash thought showed how annoyed he was about how inquisitive they had always been about him, firstly it was Sir Nicholas then it was Kruger and her ever changing attitude now it is the strange captain who seemed too good looking for his good, he did not know what they saw making Ash could only give out a tired but silent sigh.

It took a few more seconds after the words he heard settled; did he finally process what he heard? Since he was obviously tired, he did not register the words that the captain said. "What would be easier ?" he asked, feeling odd, and at that moment, Ash sincerely prayed he was not up for another torture.
