"Harry Potter- Ravenclaw"Chapter 164: Dobby Faints from Fright
A house-elf who could appear and vanish at will—if they didn't catch him now, who knew what trouble he might cause later.
With that in mind, Wyzett scribbled a note onto his magical bookmark:
Headmaster Dumbledore, please lure the house-elf beneath the eastern stands. I'll try to handle him there.
Dumbledore's reply was swift and simple:
Understood!
Before Wyzett could even speak, Luna piped up, "I'm coming with you."
"Alright!" he agreed without hesitation, and together they moved to the edge of the stands.
Luna peered down, her eyes sparkling. "Ready when you are!"
"So am I." Wyzett nodded. They exchanged a glance, gripped their wands, and leapt from the stands in perfect unison.
The wind howled around them as they plummeted toward the ground. Just before landing, they both spoke the same incantation:
"Læviasa!"
When Wyzett had taught Luna the Ancient Magic: Soaring Charm, they'd practiced this maneuver in the Pensieve, casting the spell for each other to slow their descent. Because of the recent attacks, they'd never had the chance to try it in the real world—until now.
Just as in their practice, a gentle force enveloped them both, easing their fall. Luna's laughter chimed like bells as they floated down together, drifting to earth like dandelion seeds.
They landed beneath the stands and waited for the house-elf to appear. While they waited, Wyzett explained what had just transpired.
Luna tilted her head, her pale-gold hair spilling over her shoulder. "Ginny told me about a house-elf called Dobby who's been causing all sorts of trouble for Harry."
"It sounds like Dobby got Harry locked up by his uncle last summer. Mum always said house-elves are simple, well-meaning magical creatures."
"Maybe he's really just trying to help Harry, but he doesn't know how to—"
Before she could finish, two sharp pops echoed nearby.
A shrill voice rang out, "Bad house-elf! Why are you stopping me from saving Harry Potter?"
"You're the one hurting Hogwarts's children! You're the bad house-elf!" came the immediate retort.
Two house-elves faced off: one in a filthy, tattered pillowcase, the other in a spotless tea towel.
It was obvious—the ragged one was Dobby.
He looked even worse up close. His thin, twig-like fingers were wrapped in thick bandages, blood still seeping through. He glanced at the Quidditch pitch, gritted his teeth, and pointed a finger—magic crackled in the air.
"Læviasa!"
"Nox!"
Luna and Wyzett moved as one, wands raised. Luna cast the Ancient Magic: Soaring Charm, yanking Dobby into the air and holding him fast. Wyzett followed up with Ancient Magic: Enhanced Extinguishing Charm (Basic)—a pitch-black bubble, ten meters wide, snapped into existence, swallowing Dobby whole.
Almost instantly, a bulge swelled on the bubble's surface—something inside was straining to break free.
It was house-elf Apparition.
Just as Wyzett had predicted, ancient magic could restrain even a house-elf's unique magic. Still, the bulge grew sharper, as if Dobby might burst out at any moment.
The bubble's hold was effective, but to be sure, Wyzett kept pouring ancient magic into the spell. As the word "Basic" faded from his mind, the Enhanced Extinguishing Charm grew even stronger.
If left unchecked, the bubble could easily swell tenfold. But to avoid drawing attention, Wyzett only doubled its size, then hurried inside to confront the struggling Dobby directly.
He cast Ancient Magic: Self-Molding (Devil's Snare Form). Countless magical vines shot out, cocooning Dobby in a living net.
Luna stepped into the bubble, too. "The Bludger's back to normal. Harry caught the Snitch."
"Good." Wyzett nodded, then called out, "You're Dobby, right? Why did you attack Harry? And the giant serpent… was that your doing?"
Dobby squealed, "Dobby didn't attack Harry Potter! Dobby's trying to save him! Hogwarts is too dangerous!"
A voice from outside—one of Hogwarts's own house-elves—protested, "Hogwarts isn't dangerous at all! It's the safest place in the world!"
From outside the bubble, Dumbledore called, "Wyzett? Are you in there?"
"He's here! He's here! Dobby can't—" Dobby suddenly went limp, his neck flopping, eyes rolling back as he fainted dead away.
Luna looked baffled. "He seems afraid of you. But why?"
"I've no idea." Wyzett shook his head, half amused, half exasperated. "But this works too… Now we can leave it to Headmaster Dumbledore."
He released the Devil's Snare, then conjured a net with Transfiguration, bundling Dobby securely inside.
Once finished, he and Luna stepped out of the bubble. Wyzett shrank it down until it just covered Dobby, preventing any chance of magical escape.
Outside, only Dumbledore awaited them—the other house-elf had already vanished.
"The wonders of ancient magic…" Dumbledore murmured in awe. "What's the situation?"
"He fainted," Wyzett reported. "I can only use this magical field to restrain him for now."
"Fainted?" Dumbledore sounded surprised. "I thought I heard him just a moment ago."
Wyzett coughed. "I'm not sure… He just shouted something and then collapsed."
"In that case, let's take him to my office." Dumbledore produced two sweets, handing one to Wyzett and one to Luna. "As for what to do next… well, that's a puzzle."
Wyzett suggested, "He seems to have some connection to Harry. Maybe we should ask Harry what's really going on?"
...
Wyzett escorted Luna back to the common room, then brought the bubble to the headmaster's office.
To his surprise, Snape was already there, holding a vial of clear potion.
It didn't take much deduction. "Professor Snape, is that Veritaserum?"
"Indeed…" Snape's voice held a rare note of satisfaction. "A drop for the house-elf, a bit more for Potter—and then we'll get the truth from both of them."
