Warmth.
That was the first thing I felt when I opened my eyes.
Soft sheets cradled my body, and the faint scent of pine and smoke filled my lungs. My head throbbed dully, and for a second, I couldn't remember where I was—or why I wasn't on the cold, hard floor of the cell.
I blinked, trying to focus.
The ceiling above me wasn't mine. Neither were the walls—too wide, too luxurious, too… masculine.
My heart skipped.
The heavy scent around me… I knew it. It wrapped around me like a chain.
Kaden.
I shot up, gasping, my body trembling. My eyes darted around until they landed on the coat draped over the chair—black leather, familiar. The faint claw marks on the desk. The bed I was lying in.
No. No, this couldn't be his room.
Before I could gather my thoughts, the door creaked open.
Nara slipped in, her eyes widening the instant she saw me sitting up.
"Moon above, Helen!" she exclaimed, rushing to my side. "You're awake!"
