Chapter 3 - survival begins

Our MC's life was hanging by a thread—so fragile that a single breath could end it. Discovery was inevitable; it was only a matter of time.

The serpent's colossal head hovered directly above Lin Yun. Compared to this monster, he was nothing more than a cockroach clinging to life. His lungs screamed for air, yet he dared not breathe. His body trembled, but he forced himself to remain absolutely still, as if even his heartbeat might give him away.

The beast slowly swayed its massive head, its cold eyes scanning the surroundings, hunting for the source of the disturbance.

Seconds felt like years.

Then, suddenly, the serpent lost interest. With terrifying ease, it turned away and lunged toward another prey.

Lin Yun almost collapsed in relief.

Seizing the chance, he silently slipped into the bushes, every movement calculated, every step cautious. From the shadows, he watched the serpent disappear.

How… how can something like this exist? his mind screamed. This goes beyond imagination. A creature this enormous shouldn't even be able to move, yet it's faster than anything I've ever seen. This world—nothing about it makes sense.

His hands clenched into fists.

No. Thinking won't save me. I need to survive first.

A bitter laugh escaped him.

Thank god I wasted my time watching survival shows. If I want to live, I need to hide my scent… hide my presence… erase myself.

He smeared thick mud across his body, ignoring the cold, the filth, the stench. Leaves, branches—anything he could find—were layered over his skin until he barely looked human. Only then did he retreat to the cave he had found earlier.

Inside the darkness, Lin Yun finally allowed himself to breathe.

His body slumped against the cold stone.

"So this is it…" he whispered hoarsely. "All those years. All that studying. Completely useless."

His voice trembled, caught between exhaustion and despair.

"I'm trapped in a god-forsaken place where creatures defy logic itself. It feels like the dinosaur era—no, worse. This isn't time travel. It has to be teleportation. There's no animal on Earth that moves like that… not at that size."

Memories surged, sharp and merciless.

"It's just like my nightmares," he murmured. "Me… small, helpless… an insignificant ant in a world that doesn't care whether I live or die."

Suddenly, his hands slammed into the ground.

"WHY?!"

His voice echoed through the cave.

"Why does it always have to be me?! What did I ever do wrong? I've never hurt anyone! So why—why am I the one thrown into hell?"

His breathing grew ragged. His eyes burned.

He laughed—but there was no humor in it.

"So this is humanity. This is god. Cold. Silent. Watching from above."

His gaze hardened.

"Fine."

He stood.

"From now on, I live for myself. I'll break this fate with my own hands. I'll survive. I'll grow stronger. I'll rule this world if I have to."

His lips curled into a fierce smile.

"Just watch me."

That night, his resolve hardened like steel.

When dawn arrived, Lin Yun rose.

He prepared with shaking but determined hands, shaping stone into sharp edges, crafting a crude bow and a spear. Hunger gnawed at his stomach, reminding him of reality.

Food came first.

He searched endlessly for the strange fruit he had eaten before. One hour. Two. Three.

Nothing.

The forest offered no mercy.

Left with no choice, he chose violence—or death.

Under the scorching sun, Lin Yun pressed his back against a tree, eyes locked on a cat-like creature ahead. Two small horns jutted from its forehead, giving it an eerie, predatory look.

His fingers trembled as he raised the bow.

Miss… and I die.

He released.

The arrow sliced through the air—

—and missed.

The creature twisted effortlessly, eyes snapping toward him, filled with savage intent.

In an instant, it lunged.

Fear exploded in Lin Yun's chest, but his body moved on instinct. He thrust his spear forward, carving into the creature's leg. A shrill screech pierced the air as the beast recoiled.

Blood spilled.

The creature circled him, then leapt into the tree, seeking the high ground.

Lin Yun's heart pounded violently.

Stay calm. Stay alive.

He positioned himself carefully, limiting its movement—

Then the impossible happened.

The creature's claws glowed.

It attacked in mid-air.

Death screamed at him.

Lin Yun dove sideways, barely escaping. As he rolled, his eyes caught sight of something that made his blood freeze.

A massive pit.

One wrong step—and it was over.

Gritting his teeth, he forced himself upright. Sweat, blood, fear—everything blurred together as the battle dragged on. Minutes felt endless. Every movement grew heavier.

The creature roared and launched one final glowing strike.

The impact shattered his defense.

Lin Yun was thrown backward, crashing to the ground near his fallen arrow.

The beast lunged, convinced of victory.

But Lin Yun smiled.

With his last strength, he grabbed the arrow and drove it upward.

The creature stiffened.

Then collapsed.

Silence fell.

Lin Yun lay there, gasping, staring at the lifeless body beside him.

Tears mixed with sweat.

His chest rose and fell violently.

His first hunt.

His first kill.
