Chapter 29 - Stemware Antidote

Laughter could be heard throughout the whole house.

Eve, Elyon, and Vigil are fast asleep.

Step after step, heavy boots rattle the whole house, yet they aren't waking anyone up... anytime soon.

All three of them are dead.

Their quest for revenge is over.

The story is over.

Eve stretched lazily as the sun kissed the earth.

Or it would be... if I wasn't lying. I am not lying. They are dead. Someone murdered them in their sleep.

You really believe this crap?

Ha. Suit yourself.

All three of them woke/dead up dead.

From now on, do not trust a single word I will say.

Because every word will be a lie.

That was a lie.

Vigil woke up silently, and Elyon woke up groggy. Since Eve was the one sleeping on the bed, the other two had the floor to themselves. She was the first one to see the sunrise.

"Didn't know your house could feel so... warm."

Elyon answered with his eyes closed; it was too early for him to use his ability. "Uhm... mhmm, five more minutes..." He turned over to the other side.

Eve stared back at him, annoyed, and she just threw her pillow on top of his head. "Bastard... if you don't wake up, I will throw Nightfall on your head next time."

Elyon kept sleeping.

Nightfall, which was sitting in the corner, looked back at Eve. Eve felt that someone was staring back at her, so she turned her head toward the blade. They both looked at each other.

Eve suddenly pointed her finger towards the sleeping Elyon. "He is at fault, that sleeping sack of potatoes doesn't want to wak—"

Her words were suddenly cut off because whispers started to form in her mind.

"Go wash your face," Nightfall whispered.

Eve nodded silently and got out of bed. And Vigil just stood there watching all of this happen. Vigil looked a bit at Nightfall and then turned back to Elyon.

"Elyon, wake up."

Elyon muttered something under his breath.

"The God of Heaven is here," Vigil whispered in his ear.

Elyon shot up in surprise. He was wide awake. "HUH? WHERE?"

Vigil chuckled. "I am kidding. Get up, I am hungry."

Elyon scoffed and looked annoyed at him, even though Vigil was barely visible through his blurry vision. "You are just like Eve... why do BOTH of my students have to be hungry bastards?"

Vigil shrugged. "That's your luck, I gues—"

Vigil's words were cut off because Eve screamed from inside the bathroom, "I heard that! Just you wait until I come back."

Both Vigil and Elyon stared at each other silently, then both nodded in acceptance. A single thought was shared in their minds: Let's leave as soon as possible.

Both of them got up. Vigil began to pick up the bedding on the floor, while Elyon sat there, rubbing his eyes. Once Vigil finished, he went towards the bed in which Eve had slept and began to arrange it.

Elyon cursed under his breath. "God... my eyes hurt so much."

Vigil looked back at him. "Something the matter?"

Elyon turned his left iris into "4" and the right one into "10". Now his thoughts and vision were much better. "Hmm? No, it's just that when I wake up... my eyes hurt for whatever reason."

Vigil finished making Eve's bed and turned back to him. "Let me show you something, Elyon. Come closer."

Elyon looked at him and decided to comply. Vigil pressed his finger against the glass window. Elyon looked closer.

"Yeah? What's wrong?"

"Why is this glass so weird? How much did you pay to have the glassmith do this window?"

Elyon thought for a moment. "Not that much. At least twenty golden coins."

Vigil sighed. "You said earlier that Eve and I are hungry bastards? That goes for you and Eve as well, two greedy bastards."

Elyon looked back at him, offended. "Shut up, man, I am not on her level."

Vigil nodded silently, making a quiet, "Mhmm."

Elyon stared back at the glass window, and he realised something. It was poorly made—so much so that it was not straight glass. It had weird dents that went outward a bit. Since the sun was beaming straight in their faces, Elyon noticed a strange distortion. And so, he cancelled his "4".

Those little dents in the window made him see the other side almost clearly. Elyon moved his head to stare through a straight piece of glass, and he confirmed that he couldn't see. He moved his head back, and he could see normally through the little dents.

In a hurry, Elyon grabbed Vigil and pulled him next to him. "You seeing this? I can see!"

Vigil looked at him weirdly. "What are you talking about?"

"Doesn't matter. Call Eve here, I need—"

His words were suddenly cut off. "Call me here for what?"

All three of these idiots had their faces pressed against the window first thing in the morning.

"Eve... we have to cut the glass!"

"Why?"

"So I can see better."

"What? Since when can't you see?"

Elyon thought for a second. "I made it up for dramatic effect. I just want a new accessory for my face."

Eve looked back at him judgingly. "Why don't you cut it?"

"Cutting is not my proficiency."

Eve cursed under her breath. "Fine, but if I destroy your window, it's not my problem."

Elyon nodded in acceptance.

Meanwhile, Vigil was long gone from having his face squished against the glass. "Where did Vigil go?" both of them questioned each other.

And in that moment, Vigil came back from outside with a bucket full of water. "Do you two idiots know how to even cut glass?"

Eve and Elyon looked back at Vigil. "Yes?" "No?"

Vigil sighed. "Let's remove the window first. Eve, grab Nightfall, you will do the cutting. Elyon and I will remove the window."

Both of them nodded in surprising acceptance. Elyon and Vigil removed the window from its hinges, and they went outside with the glass pane. Eve waited for them to finish, and once they were done, she came over with Nightfall. All three of them looked over at the glass pane sitting neatly on the grass.

"What do we do now?" Eve asked.

Vigil poured the whole water bucket on the glass, then he guided Eve to dunk the tip of Nightfall's blade in the water. Nightfall didn't have a single say in this.

"Cut those ellipses... try being very careful."

Eve nodded and got to work. After a gruelling twenty minutes of gentle work, two squished circles popped out. Vigil picked them up and began to tie them together with a rope. After he was finished, he put them on Elyon's face.

The first ever pair of glasses was born.

"You look stupid," Eve started laughing at him.

"Yeah, you look stupid," Vigil nodded.

Elyon adjusted his new glasses, but they still stayed crooked on his face. "I will let this slide, just once."

He tried to retaliate in some sort of way, but the relief he felt overcame his need to protect his ego. From now on, he would just have to keep the "10" active so he wouldn't go mad.

"What do we do with the window now?" Eve asked after her laughing fit finished.

"Leave it there," Elyon replied. "My house doesn't need windows."
