Chapter 399 - Chapter 398: You Speak So Eloquently

After waiting a long time and seeing no sign of Banette escaping, Morty couldn't help but put a hand to his forehead.

"Stop... uh... open your mouth. I surrender."

Once the referee raised his arm, Natsui snapped his fingers, signaling for Crystal Steelix to spit Banette out.

Following his command, Crystal Steelix opened its mouth and spat forcefully, as if spitting saliva. The next second, the battered Banette was ejected onto the ground.

It rolled several times before finally landing on its back, lying limp and unresponsive. It had clearly fainted.

Fortunately, its body was soft like a doll's, seemingly without bones, so even after being crushed in Crystal Steelix's mouth for a while, it hadn't sustained any fatal injuries.

It fainted simply because of the pain.

Of course, being swallowed whole was a terrible experience. Hopefully, Banette wouldn't be left with any lasting trauma.

With a complicated expression, Morty recalled Banette and took a deep breath, his eyes fixed on Natsui.

"You're even stronger than I imagined, to have defeated my Banette. It seems I can't hold back any longer. It's time to send out my strongest Pokémon!"

To be honest, before the battle, he had thought it would be a very ordinary gym battle. He never expected things to turn out this way, nor did he think he would have to use his ace Pokémon.

But this man before him had won two rounds with ease. He was clearly no ordinary trainer!

He had to win back a round!

Taking a deep breath, Morty solemnly took out his third Poké Ball.

"Go, my ace!"

Like a skilled pitcher, Morty threw the Poké Ball into the center of the field. As the light faded, a strange Pokémon, over two meters tall, as if wearing an iron helmet and floating in the air, appeared before Crystal Steelix.

Natsui recognized it at a glance.

"It's a Dusknoir..."

In terms of appearance, Dusknoir was mostly black, with a ghost-like tail instead of feet. It had a gray head resembling a medieval knight's helmet, but with only a single red eye. On its large, round belly, there seemed to be a eerie face!

Like Banette before it, Dusknoir was not a Pokémon native to the Johto region.

Natsui took out his Pokédex and pointed it at Dusknoir.

Pokédex: "Dusknoir, the Gripper Pokémon. A Ghost type. It is said that Dusknoir travels between this world and the next. No one knows if it has a will of its own. It uses the antenna on its head to receive radio waves from the spirit world. After receiving instructions, it brings people to the spirit world. It also appears beside those whose lives are about to end to guide their souls to the underworld, though it sometimes mistakenly takes the souls of those whose time has not yet come."

Judging by the description, Dusknoir was certainly a high-caliber Pokémon.

Guiding souls sounded just like a Grim Reaper!

It was hard to say if this was an exaggeration by people or if it truly possessed such an ability.

But regardless, as Morty's ace Pokémon, its strength was not to be underestimated!

Recalling Crystal Steelix, Natsui was hesitating about which Pokémon to send out next when Gengar suddenly emerged from his shadow.

"Let me take this battle!"

"You?"

Natsui glanced at it, surprised, wondering why it was volunteering.

Gengar, while loving pranks and watching the action, was usually quite lazy and afraid of trouble. Unless Natsui asked it to, it rarely initiated a battle with anyone.

Seeing Natsui's expression, Gengar laughed. "Don't look at me like that. My hands are just getting itchy. Besides, it's been a while since I've had a proper gym battle!"

Since Gengar wanted to fight, Natsui had no reason to refuse.

"Alright, but be careful. This is the gym leader's ace Pokémon, it must be very strong!"

Hearing this, Gengar let out a sinister cackle. "Ace? Am I not your ace? And I feel like a champion's ace has a lot more clout than a gym leader's ace!"

Look at that! Now that's the art of speaking!

Natsui was quite pleased with Gengar's flattery and gave it a thumbs-up.

"You're right. So, go for it. You're the best!"

Gengar grinned and floated towards the battlefield.

On the other side, although Morty couldn't hear what Gengar and Natsui were saying, he could clearly see that this Gengar had spoken!

Suppressing his surprise, he watched Gengar with great interest, looking it up and down.

"Incredible, a talking Gengar? How did you manage that?"

It was clear that Morty was very interested in Gengar!

In fact, in this world, aside from a few thick-skinned individuals, anyone who saw a Pokémon speak human language would be as astonished as Morty.

"What's so strange about it? Isn't it easy to do?" Gengar said nonchalantly. "Besides me, I've also met a Meowth and a Slowking that can speak human language."

"Hey, hey, that's incredibly difficult, isn't it!?" Morty didn't believe it at all and pressed on, "So, when did you learn to speak?"

"Kid, why do you have so many questions? Are you going to fight or not?" Gengar wrinkled its brow in annoyance, seeming to find the man too noisy. To stop him from asking more questions, it said, "Since you're so desperate to know, listen up. I learned to speak hundreds of years before you were even a fertilized egg!"

Morty: "..."

Heh, this Gengar really speaks eloquently, doesn't it!

Ignoring it, Morty turned to Natsui.

"As you can see, I'm a Ghost-type trainer and I'm very fond of all kinds of Ghost-type Pokémon. Your Gengar is really interesting and unique. It's a bit forward of me, but if possible, would you be willing to trade it with me?"

Trade his Gengar?

He must be dreaming...

Natsui shook his head coolly. "Sorry, this Gengar is an important partner of mine. I would never trade it!"

Seeing Natsui's firm attitude with no room for negotiation, Morty sighed in disappointment.

"Ah, what a shame."

On the field, listening to Morty ramble on, Gengar urged, "Hey, kid, are you going to fight or not? I didn't come here to listen to you talk about me!"

Raising an eyebrow and seeing Gengar's impatient look, Morty knew he had indeed delayed too long. He nodded and got serious.

"You're right, we've talked long enough. Let's begin!
