Daeron looked from Levina to Soren before letting out a long, exaggerated sigh.
"It would appear," he said, placing a hand dramatically over his chest, "that my own family has unanimously decided I am incapable of possessing even the smallest shred of decency."
"You've given us very little evidence to suggest otherwise," Soren replied without missing a beat.
A few nobles lowered their heads, pretending to study the marble beneath their feet, though several pairs of shoulders subtly trembled. It was impossible to tell whether they were suppressing laughter or simply praying they would not be noticed.
Daeron noticed anyway....he always noticed. His lips curved into the faintest smile before he looked back at Soren.
"You know," he said conversationally, "there was a time when you used to admire me."
Soren actually looked offended. "I was four."
"You followed me everywhere." Daeron said with a smirk.
