MHGA Chapter 142 – Don't Underestimate Solo Top and Tank Support, You Glass Cannon DPS Mains!
"I'm heading your way now."
Joseph Joestar spoke to Naofumi Iwatani. "Don't die before I get there... even if we can all cart and come back now."
Naofumi smiled, accepting the concern from his comrade. "I won't die. Even without being a Hunter... I'm still the Shield Hero. I'm not going down that easily."
"Good." Joseph ended the comms and began judging the distance between himself and Naofumi based on the direction of the falling meteors in the sky.
Their "Coordinated Technique" — more precisely, the strategy they devised — placed Naofumi, the Shield Hero, at the tactical core, using the strengths of each Hunter to develop tailored responses to the threat.
Joseph still remembered what Kairo Retsu had yelled during the strategy meeting, fuming with rage about Naofumi's original party:
"Those idiots, who do they think they are looking down on top lane and hard support mains?! Drag 'em out and EXECUTE 'em! Those glass cannon squishies don't even understand what real chad roles look like!"
Then he went off on a rant about how the Sword Hero played like a mute mid laner who never pings, the Spear Hero acted like a jungler who fed and blamed others, and the Bow Hero was the ADC flaming support while being garbage himself...
Kairo just kept heating up, rolling up his sleeves ready to storm into the Shield Hero's world to give those three a taste of his Insect Glaive — until Naofumi had to physically restrain him.
Looking back, Joseph couldn't help but agree — that party dynamic really was a mess.
Sure, someone growing stronger too fast might seem suspicious, but… aren't they still your teammate?
If Caesar suddenly whipped out Ripple a thousand times stronger and one-shot Kars and the Pillar Men, he wouldn't go yelling that Caesar was cheating and needed to be punished.
With that in mind, Joseph had already pinpointed Naofumi's location and was racing toward him, riding atop his Mist-Eyed Bubblefox.
"Grandmaster! Where are you?! Shield bro and I are moving in — don't tell me you haven't changed weapons yet!"
Joseph shouted into the gathering hall comms.
Kairo Retsu had been MIA ever since Shah Dalamadur burst through the barrier.
"I already switched to Insect Glaive, but... don't wait for me!"
Kairo's voice came through, background noise in chaos. "Leave the high-altitude access to me!"
"Dammit, just listen! Let me ride you!!" Kairo yelled again mid-combat, and Joseph was visibly confused.
He knew Kairo probably wasn't doing anything weird, but... that sounded way too much like the street thugs in America...
"Bubblefox — once I regroup with Shield Bro, go help fight off the monsters," Joseph gave orders to his mount, then focused on speeding toward Naofumi.
Naofumi, meanwhile, was getting worn down dodging the relentless meteor bombardments.
"Here."
Naofumi tossed some Well-Done Steaks and Rations from his pack to the Silver Ridge Beast so it could keep moving at a steady pace through the falling meteors. As for the ones he truly couldn't dodge, he'd just have to tank them himself.
He understood that his top priority right now was to draw as much aggro as possible — to force Shah Dalamadur and the demon's attention entirely on him.
Only then could the other Hunters prepare their counterstrike and carry out the next phase of the plan.
"Come at me!"
Naofumi raised his Heavy Bowgun, bracing his shield module onto it, and pointed it straight at Shah Dalamadur.
"If you can't break through my defense, don't even think about touching my teammates."
Meanwhile, several adventurers — some accompanied by small Felynes — were busy assembling massive devices, concealing their presence while installing enormous weapons.
Most of the adventurers had no idea where the tiny Felyne Beastkin were pulling out these huge components from, but they sure weren't made for humans to wield.
Dragonators... and Binding Ballistas.
The adventurers were working together to hammer giant stakes into the foundation, anchoring the siege weapons to the earth.
"Please! This is the only spot stable enough! If we don't secure it, we won't be able to bind Shah Dalamadur!"
Tanjiro, hidden beneath a long robe, earnestly directed the assisting adventurers.
Senshi and the others were busy helping with the equipment installation too.
"Hey, Laios!!!"
The Beastman leader stared at the overly dramatic "Demon King" getup Laios was wearing in utter confusion.
Beastmen weren't great with faces, but by smell he recognized Laios — still, he didn't get why no one was reacting to Laios's ridiculous costume. And why was he wearing leafy camouflage?
"I went back and put on a Stealth Talisman… and the Invisibility Suit," Laios explained. "Tanjiro and I were helping set up the Dragonators and stuff, but if I got spotted by the demon, I'd get targeted—"
"Laios! What do you think you're doing?!"
Kabru stormed over, clearly annoyed. "There's still tons of work left! This is no time to be chatting!"
Laios flinched. "Don't be mad, Kabru! We were just… discussing the next step…"
"And besides, with you organizing everything, the Dragonator and Ballista setup is going really smoothly..."
The sheepish tone in Laios's voice only made Kabru angrier.
"Who was it that arbitrarily declared himself the 'Demon King,' and even sent monsters to make me his 'Demon General'?"
A vein popped on Kabru's forehead.
"My companions think I've betrayed humanity... Do you plan to dump all the blame on me again?"
