Lucien's voice boomed through the laptop speakers as who ever was talking delivered the bad news about the business partner waiting, and I swear, his face crumpled like a paper bag under a boot.
"Oooh fuck me!!! I am screwed,"
he groaned, slumping back in the chair like all the air had been sucked out of him.
I sat on the bed, knees pulled up, watching the whole thing unfold like a train wreck I couldn't look away from.
Poor guy—flying all the way to Italy for this big deal, and now he's late because… well, because we were too busy groping each other like horny teenagers?
Guilt twisted in my gut, even though it wasn't totally my fault.
But damn, the panic in his eyes was real.
If he loses this, is it on me? On us?
I felt a wave of pity for him; he looked so defeated, like the confident Lucien I'd been kissing minutes ago had been replaced by a stressed-out mess.
