When they arrived at the house, Jake parked the car and turned off the engine, but neither of them moved immediately.
The night felt heavy but warm. Bella reached for the door handle, then paused.
She glanced at Jake and saw the way his chest rose slowly, like he was preparing himself for something important and she couldn't help but smile.
He was preparing his mind, yet, Timothy could be asleep right now. She thought with a shake of her head.
"You ready?" she asked softly.
He nodded. "Yeah."
They stepped out of the car and walked toward the house together.
The lights were on inside. Bella opened the door, and before she could even say a word, she heard a broken sound. It was a sob.
A sob that sounded like it came from somewhere deep and painful.
Bella didn't need anyone to tell her it was Rachel.
Immediately, she dropped her bag. She didn't even remove her sandals before rushing inside.
