The wand was still that almost golden yellow but it's surface now held scorched lightning burns that marred it's features.
"We've both seen better days haven't we partner?" I said as I held the wand carefully.
It hummed and golden sparks popped from it's tip as though reassuring me and I smiled.
"I've never seen anything quite like that before." Flitwick said in awe.
"Vinewood wands are very rare according to Olivander and among the most peculiar as well. This is probably the first time you've seen such a wand and it's master both suffer an injury like this is all." I said as I tapped the air with the wands tip "Lumos." I said and a bright light shone from it.
"Everything seems in order then. Off you trot, and don't you dare come back here again for at least some months." Madam Pomphrey said shooing me and Flitwick out of the hospital wing.
Flitwick as promised led me back to the Ravenclaw common room since it was best to start the tour from the location I would be starting my day.
First he showed me his classroom on the third floor in the apply named Charms corridor. Then he took me to the ground floor where the Transfiguration classroom was. Professor Mcgonagall was sitting behind her desk grading papers when we dropped by.
"Filius, Mr. Drake I am pleased to see you out of the hospital wing. If you can I'd like you to attempt to transfigure this quill following the examples given in your textbooks." she said presenting her quill.
I hadn't expected to be put on the spot like this but drew my wand from my wrist where I tucked it under my bandages.
"Verto." I said tapping the quill.
Immediately it shivered and the fluffy bits sunk into the main part and the whole thing took on a wooden hue as the shape shifted.
"Enough." she said stopping me as she picked up my shoddy transfigured item. "It's clear you haven't practiced before now but even achieving this much through pure theoretical knowledge is impressive. I dare say I may quite enjoy having you in my upcoming class." she praising me before casually waving her wand over the quill and fixing it back into it's normal form.
We left the classroom and went up to the second floor where the DADA classroom was located but Quirelmort was nowhere to be seen. The first floor held the History of magic classroom besides the Transfiguration classroom and Binns was there with a house elf helping him grade the papers. From there we moved to the dungeons where both the Slytherin common room and potions classroom were. It was a cold damp place which made sense given it was under the lake and only heated by the torches on the walls. Snape was in the middle of brewing some sort of potion when we arrived.-
I sniffed the air and I knew immediately what it was.
"Pain relieving potion, close to half done." I said calmly.
"Correct. I have just added the first three drops of poppy extract. What is the next step?" Snape demanded as he looked at me seriously.
"Stir gently counter clockwise twice and then once firmly clockwise and then remove from heat before adding the drop of cobra venom." I said without hesitation.
"Correct again." he said with a small nod as he did exactly that. "and why do we use cobra venom in this potion?" he asked.
"Because it's neurotoxic and in this controlled amount with the other ingredients it is helpful rather than harmful." I answered without hesitation.
"Very good Mr. Drake. It seems at least one student will be worth teaching this batch. Off with you now, you'll spoil my focus." he said dismissing me.
"My goodness! I do believe that's the first time I've heard him get so close to praise before!" Flitwick said in astonishment once we were out of earshot from the room.
"He's a bit intense but that's it as far as I can tell." I said honestly.
"Don't let your classmates hear you or they'll definitely not agree." he said seriously.
We left the dungeons after that and headed for the courtyard under the clocktower and then out onto the castle grounds where other students could be seen hanging out. Some were playing games and others studying in the sunlight with a few older students playing about on brooms in the air overhead. More than a few noticed us and whispered amongst themselves no doubt about my bandages and eyepatch. Flitwick looked at me concerned when this started but I was unbothered as I had long since grown numb to others opinions.-
He didn't seem happy about my lack of care but didn't mention it either as he showed me to the greenhouses that I almost had to stop myself from drooling over. We didn't go in but even from outside I identified no less than twelve decently priced plants. He pointed out Hagrid's hut and the edge of the forbidden forest while warning me to stay out of the latter. Finally we headed back to the castle and to one of the towers that he introduced as the astrology tower with the classroom being an open air one at the top.-
"If you have any trouble remembering the way please don't hesitate to ask one of your fellow students or the portraits." he said as we arrived again outside the grand hall as dinner was going to start within thirty minutes and we were only slightly early. I sat down at the Ravenclaw long table and chose to wait quietly while practicing transfiguration since Flitwick and Mcgonagall were already sitting at the professors table.
