The peaceful days didn't even last two days before the communicator in Saitama's apartment rang again. This time, it was a video call sent personally by Fury. The background looked like the command center of a warship, and Fury's expression was even grimmer than last time.
"Saitama, a deep-sea drilling platform in the North Atlantic has been attacked by an unknown giant creature. There are nearly a hundred workers on the platform, and the situation is critical. Our conventional weapons have limited effectiveness in that deep-sea environment, so we need your… unique way of handling things." Fury paused, then added, "A Quinjet is already waiting downstairs."
Saitama looked at the vertical takeoff aircraft slowly descending outside the window and scratched his shiny head. "You guys handle stuff in the ocean too…? Alright. Anyway, the supermarket sale is tomorrow."
The Quinjet flew at extreme speed. Before long, everything below became the endless blue of the Atlantic. As they neared the target waters, they could already see the massive drilling platform in the distance, along with abnormally frothing white waves rolling around it.
The aircraft landed on a relatively safe helipad on the platform. The moment Saitama jumped down, he felt the entire structure shaking violently. A thick purple-black tentacle shot up from beneath the surface and slammed down with tremendous force onto one of the platform's supporting structures. The groan of twisting metal was chilling.
Workers on the platform screamed and fled in panic, trying to brace equipment or find shelter. A few brave security guards fired rifles at the tentacle, but the bullets didn't even leave a white mark—if anything, they only seemed to enrage the monster further.
"That it?" Saitama pointed at the tentacle retracting into the sea.
The platform supervisor, face deathly pale, nodded frantically. "Y-Yes! That's it! The real body is down there—there are several tentacles like this! It's trying to pull the whole platform over!"
Saitama walked to the edge and leaned over to look down. The seawater was murky, but he could vaguely make out an even more massive shadow writhing beneath the surface. Just then, two more tentacles exploded out of the water—one coiled toward a crane, while the other slapped straight toward where Saitama was standing!
The supervisor and the rescue crew that had just arrived let out panicked cries.
Saitama didn't hurry at all. At the instant the tentacle was about to strike, he reached out and precisely grabbed its tip. A huge force surged through it, trying to sweep him straight off the platform, but he didn't move an inch. The slick suction cups instinctively contracted, trying to latch onto Saitama's arm, yet they still couldn't breach that seemingly ordinary tracksuit fabric.
"Alright, cut it out." Saitama said. His arm pulled back slightly—then he suddenly yanked upward with force.
"Up—!"
It wasn't a shout meant for anyone, just a habit when exerting strength. What happened next became something everyone who witnessed it would never forget for the rest of their lives.
The sea surface erupted like it was boiling. With that single pull, Saitama dragged the monster's main body straight out from the deep ocean!
At last, the creature's full form was revealed. It looked like a grotesque octopus enlarged countless times, only uglier—its body covered in fleshy tumors and glowing blotches. It seemed just as shocked and bewildered as everyone else, flailing countless tentacles helplessly in the air.
