The nurse's words echoed in my head, over and over again, until the tears that had been hanging at the edge of my lashes finally fell.
"He... doesn't deserve this," I whispered. "He shouldn't be the one fighting for his life." Why did he save me?
Why did he have to save me and end up like this?
The question kept ringing in my head as regret swallowed me whole.
I wish I were the one in his place.
I turned my head slightly with a weak motion and said with my trembling lips.
"Can you… At least tell me if he's awake?" I asked. "When he wakes up, that is."
"He hasn't woken up once since the operation but if he does, I will let you know. So please rest easy." She said to me and I nodded, barely able to smile in appreciation.
"T-thank you. Please don't forget. I..." Another tear slid down my face. "...I can only keep faith that he's getting better while waiting for word from you."
Her face softened again at my words and she nodded.
