If Zhou Cheng, Nick Fury, or anyone from the Avengers were here, they would immediately notice something strange: the suddenly appearing figures were familiar—very familiar.
Because these people were none other than Tony Stark, Captain America, and Bruce Banner—the Hulk.
Of course, there was also Ant-Man, though only Zhou Cheng would recognize him.
Among them, Tony looked considerably older, his face lined, hair streaked with gray.
There was no doubt—these were the Avengers who had traveled from the future.
"So quiet."
Future Ant-Man instinctively glanced around, his face showing a mix of surprise and confusion.
"Of course, it's not that there's absolutely no sound, but given the context of an alien invasion… it is unusually quiet, isn't it?"
"Something's wrong."
Future Captain America furrowed his brow. "Where are the Chitauri?"
He had been a primary combatant against the Chitauri, and he knew the battlefield all too well.
Loki had opened the portal atop Stark Tower, making the surrounding area the epicenter of the battle.
And yet, they were not far from Stark Tower—and there was no sign of Chitauri anywhere.Something was definitely off.
"They're not here because they never came."
Future Tony's voice sounded simultaneously.
He stood slightly to the left, giving him a clear view of Stark Tower.
The tower was eerily empty—no portal opened by Loki existed in the sky!
The other future Avengers moved to see what Tony was seeing.
One by one, they too were stunned.
"Yes, there's no Chitauri at all!"
Future Banner nodded heavily and quickly raised his wrist to check the time-travel watch. "Did we set the time wrong?"
Though Banner knew that for something as critical as time travel, no one would make such a basic error, the peaceful city below seemed to confirm that they had indeed arrived at the wrong place.
After careful verification, it was clear—they hadn't set the time incorrectly.
It was indeed the day of the Battle of New York.
Yet everything before them suggested the battle hadn't occurred.
Or perhaps it already had—somehow.
"What's going on?"
"Why is this happening? Did the time machine malfunction?"
Future Ant-Man was genuinely bewildered, scratching his head in confusion.
"Friday?"
Future Tony began consulting his AI assistant.
"Sir, the time machine functioned normally throughout the process. I detected no anomalies," Friday reported.
This only added to the Avengers' confusion.
The time machine worked perfectly, the date was correct—so what was wrong?
"There's only one explanation."
Future Tony thought for a moment, then spoke. "The problem is with this world."
"What do you mean, Tony?"
Future Captain America turned to him, puzzled.
"Banner told us before: traveling to the past cannot change the future. Remember?"
Tony suddenly brought up this principle.
Though no one fully understood, Banner had indeed explained this. It was why they couldn't simply kill young Thanos to prevent him from becoming a threat.
"Banner may have explained it differently to you, but now it all confirms my theory."
"When we travel back, we don't actually reach our own past. We're only entering a parallel world."
"No matter what we do here, it cannot affect our own future—it cannot change it."
"Because these are two separate worlds."
Parallel worlds? The future Avengers fell silent, deep in thought.
Although this was just Tony's theory, the facts before their eyes were undeniable.
"The Grandmother Paradox—this is the Grandmother Paradox."
Future Ant-Man spoke rapidly, expanding on the concept.
"If someone traveled back to kill their grandmother, it would be impossible. Because if they killed her, they would never be born—and then how could they travel back?"
"But if you stab her, how could she not die?"
"Parallel universes! This perfectly explains the paradox! Killing your grandmother only kills the grandmother of that parallel universe!"
"Can't believe this is real!"
"Thanks for the science lesson, Scott. Very helpful," Future Captain America said, shrugging, his expression a mix of frustration and confusion. "So… what's happening with this world?"
"I think that's exactly what we need to figure out next," Banner said seriously.
"Friday."
Future Tony wasted no time. "Find out what's happening in this world—but don't alert your 'brother.'"
By "brother," Tony clearly meant J.A.R.V.I.S.—Friday's predecessor AI.
"Understood, sir."
Friday quickly began scanning and soon had answers.
"Sir, this world is significantly different from ours. Here, you are no longer Iron Man—you are the Destroyer."
"You weren't rescued by building your own armor after being kidnapped by the Ten Rings; you were saved by mercenaries hired by Stark Industries."
"There was no war between Stark and you, and Ivan Vanko didn't appear either…"
"Thor's hammer did fall in New Mexico, but the Destroyer did not arrive there; no battle occurred between Thor and the Destroyer."
Friday summarized the key deviations to the future Avengers.
They were stunned.
This parallel world's trajectory was vastly different from theirs!
"Destroyer? Well, my taste in this world leaves much to be desired," Future Tony quipped, then returned to business. "What about the Battle of New York?"
"There's no trace of anything related to the Battle of New York," Friday replied.
"Sh*t!"
Future Ant-Man swore.
This was bad news.
The Battle of New York was carefully chosen by the future Avengers because it was the location of three Infinity Stones:
The Time Stone in the Sanctum
The Tesseract in New York
Loki's Scepter
Without the battle, where would they find Loki's scepter?Even if everything else went smoothly, they would be missing a crucial Infinity Stone.
Worse, their supply of Pym particles could only sustain a single time jump.
"I knew it wouldn't be that easy. It never is," Future Tony said, adjusting his mindset.
"But we always find a way. This time will be no different."
"You're always so arrogant, but right now… your arrogance is perfect," Ant-Man nodded.
"Looks like we've got a lot of work ahead," Captain America said meaningfully.
The future Avengers began planning their next steps.
Their goals were clear:
Gather intelligence.
In this unfamiliar parallel world, they no longer had the foresight advantage and had to start from scratch.
They needed to locate the Tesseract and verify if the Time Stone was still at the Sanctum.
Acquire the stones.
Loki's scepter? They had no clue yet—only after retrieving the first two stones could they plan their next move.
"Alright, everyone, let's move!"
"Stick to the plan!"
After a brief discussion, they reached a consensus.
Captain America clapped and rallied the team.
"Sir!"
At that moment, Friday reported to Tony: "Loki found! He's on Earth!"
Tony's eyes lit up in surprise and delight—a welcome, unexpected turn.
The team had been struggling to locate Loki's scepter.
Yet without effort, the situation resolved itself—Loki was already on Earth, even without the Battle of New York.
"Where is he?"
Tony asked immediately.
A projection appeared before him.
They saw a disheveled Loki being escorted across the street by armed agents.
"That's S.H.I.E.L.D.," Captain America said, identifying the group at once.
This was surprising—Loki's first capture wasn't in Germany, and he had previously been taken by Tony and Steve, not S.H.I.E.L.D.
The Loki in the video looked utterly defeated.
"This is the intersection of Baker Street and 79th Street—just three kilometers from here," Friday reported.
"Friday, monitor their every move," Tony ordered.
The future Avengers mobilized silently, undetected even by Nick Fury.
Ant-Man shrank and flew into Fury's base, unnoticed.
Fury stood at the gate, coldly watching Loki being escorted.
"A self-proclaimed god," he muttered.
"Yet here he is, brought low."
He approached Loki, mocking him.
Loki, unfazed, smiled his signature mischievous grin.
"You're wrong. I am a god—not because I claim to be, but because I was born a god."
"Just as I was born a king!"
He smirked.
"Those who claim kingship usually don't end well. Trust me, I've seen it all," Fury said, then motioned to his escort team.
The team silently led Loki into the base.
Nick Fury had much to discuss with Loki.
Loki was placed in the highest-security cell, and the scepter was secured in a high-security vault.
Even Black Widow, previously controlled by Loki via the scepter, was safely contained.
But for now, Fury had more pressing matters—Loki himself.
"I admit, I underestimated you before—I was wrong," Loki declared.
"But you've made the same mistake: you underestimated a god!"
"You don't really think you've won, do you?"
"You can never know what a god is truly capable of!"
He stood confidently inside the glass doors, as if the prisoner was someone else entirely.
"If you mean the Chitauri, then I think I understand," Fury replied.
But Fury's next words froze the confident smile on Loki's face.
