Shatad slowly let out a tired sigh.
"I wasn't involved from the beginning."
He picked up a small stone and casually threw it into the fire.
"Marco had already been working with the other Empires before the war even started. He had business dealings with them, and they had already promised him greater benefits from the very beginning."
He lowered his head slightly.
"I was dragged into it later. I was never as committed as he was because all of this would only benefit me if Arcadia lost the war. If Arcadia won, I would be the one in serious trouble."
He slowly looked toward Ethan.
"So I stayed in the middle."
He paused for a moment.
"Until..."
His eyes became much colder.
"It was only because of you that I got dragged into this mess."
Ethan shrugged without showing much concern.
"Even if I had never appeared, your days wouldn't have remained peaceful."
He folded his arms while calmly explaining.
