Chapter 104 – Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo's Rinnegan
After a full week of intense training, Hatake Yusuke had finally mastered Sage Mode.
But his version wasn't anything like Naruto Uzumaki's half-baked attempt. No, Yusuke's control was on par with that of Hashirama Senju himself. With a single thought, he could enter Sage Mode instantly—and what's more, he could maintain it indefinitely as long as there was light around him.
That peculiar trait seemed to be a synergistic effect, thanks to the Glint-Glint Fruit (Pika Pika no Mi) he had consumed. The light his body naturally emitted acted as a passive source of natural energy.
During that time, he had summoned Namikaze Minato to check in on him. The stunned expression on Minato's face when he saw how far Yusuke had come? Totally worth it. Now that his training was over, there was only one thing on Yusuke's mind—getting out of this place.
"Not only is it impossible to sleep properly here, but the food is… let's not talk about the food," Yusuke muttered to himself, his expression bitter.
"If Minato hadn't brought me some emergency rations a while back, I might've starved to death in this toad-infested mountain."
There was also a nagging feeling, like he was forgetting something… Something important. He needed to return—soon.
"Thank you both for your guidance and supervision," Yusuke said politely to the two elder toads. "It's time for me to head back."
"Well done, young Yusuke," Fukasaku nodded. "You've completed Sage Mode training perfectly. I'll send a message to Minato, but before you leave… the Great Toad Sage wishes to see you."
Even Fukasaku was astonished. It wasn't just that Yusuke had mastered Sage Mode—he had maintained it perpetually without fatigue. Not even the oldest sages of Mount Myōboku had imagined such a thing was possible.
"Understood," Yusuke nodded. Truthfully, he was curious too. He hadn't forgotten the promise the Great Toad Sage had made.
He followed the two sages back to the massive chamber where the ancient toad resided.
"Leave us," the old sage said softly, eyes still closed.
The two elder toads looked at each other in confusion but obeyed without question. This was the first time they'd ever been barred from hearing one of their elder's visions.
"Now that you've completed your training, it's time for me to fulfill the promise I made to you," the Great Toad Sage said, his voice heavy with meaning.
Yusuke didn't respond. He simply stared at the ancient being with unwavering focus.
"Have you ever heard of the Sage of Six Paths?" the Great Toad Sage asked, his cloudy gaze drifting off toward some distant memory.
"Of course. He's the founder of the shinobi world, isn't he?" Yusuke replied. He also knew that this old toad shared a deep connection with the legendary Sage.
"His real name was Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo. And he was more than a legend… He was my friend."
"Oh?" Yusuke raised an eyebrow. "But I doubt you called me here just to reminisce about the past."
A faint smile touched the toad's ancient face. "You're calmer than I expected. Indeed, I hadn't planned to reveal this at all. You know I can foresee the future… but did you know I didn't always have that power?"
"I see…" Yusuke nodded slowly. "The ability to glimpse the future is no trivial feat. I can predict short-term outcomes based on probability and analysis—but true foresight over distant time? That's on a whole other level."
In the shinobi world, only a rare few possessed true precognitive abilities—Shion the shrine maiden, and this sage. But it was clear whose vision reached farther.
"Since you brought up the Sage of Six Paths… don't tell me—" A sudden thought struck Yusuke, and his brows furrowed.
"You're right," the sage nodded solemnly. "This power was a gift—left to me by Hagoromo himself."
He then opened a hidden compartment beneath his throne, revealing two small sealed jars. Floating inside each was a purple eye, lined with rippling patterns—each bearing six tomoe.
"These… are really the Sage's eyes?" Yusuke whispered, eyes wide. "These make Nagato's Rinnegan look like child's play…"
"Rinnegan," he murmured in awe.
"Correct," the sage confirmed. "When Hagoromo sensed his time was drawing near, he entrusted them to me. He spoke of a shadow looming beyond this world—something hidden even from fate itself."
"He said… when someone appears whose destiny I cannot see, these eyes must be passed on to them."
"…And I'm that someone?" Yusuke asked, genuinely surprised.
"Yes. Hagoromo's Kekkei Genkai—Takamagahara—was a dōjutsu tied to the manipulation of space and time. He once used it to peer into the far future… and he saw you, Yusuke."
"…What about the second eye?" Yusuke asked, curiosity piqued.
"The second eye… contains a spatial ability," the sage replied vaguely.
Yusuke narrowed his eyes in thought. Based on what he knew, it was likely Amenotejikara—a technique that allowed instantaneous position-swapping. Such powers typically manifested when the Mangekyō Sharingan evolved into the Rinnegan.
If Uchiha Madara could awaken Limbo: Hengoku, then the Mangekyō Sharingan wasn't something to underestimate.
Even Sasuke Uchiha had awakened a six-tomoe Rinnegan after receiving Hagoromo's chakra, merging it with his own Indra lineage. But in Boruto, his Rinnegan often malfunctioned from chakra depletion. He couldn't even close that eye. That hinted at something key: Sasuke's Rinnegan was incomplete. The constant chakra drain was proof.
"So… you want me to implant both of them?" Yusuke asked directly.
"Yes," the sage nodded. "This power is too dangerous to fall into the wrong hands. And only you—chosen by Hagoromo himself—are worthy."
"…But I don't have Ōtsutsuki blood. I'm not sure I can unlock their full potential," Yusuke admitted honestly.
"That's why I told you to master Sage Mode first. Natural energy will stabilize the Rinnegan. And with your absurd chakra reserves, any side effects will feel like mosquito bites."
"Even so… these eyes are flashy. I can't just walk around with Rinnegan out in the open," Yusuke sighed.
It wasn't the power that bothered him—it was the aesthetic. He hated standing out.
The sage let out a long sigh. If others ever learned that Yusuke almost rejected the Rinnegan… just because he didn't want the attention… chaos might ensue.
"Then wear an eyepatch. But I hope you understand what these eyes truly mean."
Yusuke fell silent for a moment, then gave a small nod. "Alright. I admit I've always been curious about the Rinnegan. Give them to me."
"There's one more thing," the sage added. "To wield the Rinnegan's full power, you must synchronize with the Senjutsu of all three sacred places—Mount Myōboku, Shikkotsu Forest, and Ryūchi Cave."
"So it's true…" Yusuke muttered. His suspicion was now confirmed.
"It won't be easy. But I believe you're capable. If you're worried about the side effects, start with Shikkotsu Forest. But if your goal is to maximize your Rinnegan's power… then your path lies with Ryūchi Cave."
Yusuke's response was calm, but his eyes were filled with unwavering confidence.
Side effects? He wasn't worried.
His chakra reserves rivaled those of Hashirama Senju himself. Nothing was beyond reach now.
