Even the mere existence of Hydra — no matter how small or scattered — was an enormous problem for S.H.I.E.L.D. To them, Hydra was a mortal enemy.
Just like how the Five Great Nations would never allow fascist states to rise again — their political legitimacy was built upon those enemies' corpses. There was no way they could tolerate their return.
But the question now was: how large was Hydra's remaining network? How many people were involved? Where were they hiding?
No one knew.
And precisely because of that, the agents felt that Hydra likely wasn't very strong anymore. If they were powerful, they would have already resurfaced — and with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s global surveillance system, there would be no way for them to remain undetected.
Thinking this way, everyone breathed a little easier. Though Hydra was their sworn enemy, that enemy had lost any national backing. No matter how strong an organization was, without a government behind it, it couldn't become a true threat.
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s funding was massive every year, and its growth rate was terrifyingly fast. Even if Hydra had returned, it wouldn't amount to much — just a bunch of rats hiding in the dark.
"Wait — so there are white magics, black magics, and even chaos magics…" Tony Stark rubbed his chin thoughtfully. He had always been curious about magic, especially since Lin Feng had said he also possessed magical potential.
In some timeline, he even became the Sorcerer Supreme.
"So that means," Natasha Romanoff said, analyzing calmly, "the people from Kamar-Taj — like the Ancient One and Doctor Strange — would represent white magic. And those following the Lord of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu — like Kaecilius and his disciples — would be the black magic users, drawing power from the dark gods.
From that logic, if chaos magic also comes from dark entities, then Kamar-Taj must likewise have some divine beings backing it — perhaps one, or even several gods."
She paused, her expression serious. "But this Wanda — she's critical. Lin Feng said her existence affects the future timeline. I just don't know what he meant by that."
Everyone nodded in agreement. There was still too little information to go on.
"Brother… died?"
Inside Hydra's base, Wanda's face turned pale as she watched the video showing Quicksilver's death. Her emotions exploded violently — she could feel a massive, uncontrollable power rising from deep within.
Until now, she had only suspected that the "Pietro" mentioned in Lin Feng's diary shared her brother's name. But seeing this, combined with her own name being "Wanda," she could no longer deny it — that Quicksilver Pietro was her brother, her Pietro.
Her grief nearly consumed her.
After their parents' deaths, she and Pietro had grown up together, utterly dependent on one another. Losing him would mean losing the last of her family — she couldn't even imagine that pain.
"Calm down, Wanda! I'm fine! I'm still alive!" Pietro said hurriedly, trying to comfort his distraught sister, even as he himself was shaken.
So… that other Pietro wasn't a coincidence — it was him.
He was the "unlucky fool," the "most useless one" Lin Feng had mocked in the diary.
He didn't want to believe it, but Lin Feng's clues were too direct — a brother named Pietro, a sister named Wanda. How could there be such a coincidence?
And indeed, they were in a Hydra base.
The realization hit him hard. If the diary was right, then Wanda's tragic future — losing her brother, her husband, her children — would all come true.
Her pain would begin with his death.
Pietro clenched his fists. If that was true, then he would change it. He would not let fate claim him first.
If he truly was that "speedster" Lin Feng described, then he possessed superhuman speed — an extraordinary power. But… why would someone like that die?
As he pondered, a video suddenly appeared in the diary.
He quickly played it.
The opening showed a close-up of a gilded scepter — and many instantly recognized it from Lin Feng's earlier notes.
"The Mind Scepter!" Natasha said in shock. "I used that once — during the Chitauri invasion, I used it to cut off the energy barrier on their portal device."
Back then, no one had known what it was. But now, after Lin Feng's hints, it was clear: this was the Mind Stone's Scepter.
"That means," Nick Fury analyzed quickly, "this event must have happened after the Chitauri invasion — the scepter was likely left on Earth after their defeat. Then Hydra found it and used it on Wanda and Pietro, awakening their powers…"
Piece by piece, the timeline was falling into place.
Onscreen, a male and a female appeared — their faces faintly visible. Combined with the diary's descriptions, the viewers instantly recognized them: Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.
Alarms blared across the base.
"This is not a drill! We're under attack!"
The Hydra soldiers scrambled to grab weapons and armor.
The camera then cut to the Avengers storming a fortress — Natasha driving a jeep across rough terrain while Hawkeye loosed arrow after arrow, hitting every target even at full speed.
Their coordination was flawless — beautiful, efficient, deadly.
Every original Avenger was there.
Fury frowned. This wasn't a S.H.I.E.L.D. operation. He couldn't even order people like Thor or Tony Stark — they were outside his chain of command. Even Captain America, though technically a S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran, acted on his own moral compass.
So this must have been an independent Avengers mission.
Despite that, Fury couldn't help a pang of frustration — he was their supposed "superior," yet couldn't deploy them freely. Still, he pushed the thought aside and focused.
Onscreen, the Avengers crushed Hydra's forces like a tidal wave. Even when outnumbered dozens to one, they dominated with overwhelming strength.
Their synergy, their power — it was breathtaking. Even Thor had to admit: "Not bad. They look… quite glorious."
But Steve Rogers's brows furrowed. "Hydra's grown this much again?"
Their troops, their advanced weaponry — energy-based weapons no less — were things no current nation had achieved.
Meanwhile, Tony's armor struck at the castle's upper levels — only to be blocked by an energy barrier.
The viewers were stunned.
Even Tony himself was shocked — energy shielding technology was beyond even his capabilities. Such tech was supposed to belong to the spacefaring era of humanity, centuries ahead.
Hydra's science was terrifying.
They weren't weak — the Avengers were simply too strong.
Still, it was clear: Hydra's power level was far beyond anything the world imagined.
