"Heh. Since when did you treat me that politely, Master Edric?" Zalyric said, settling into his seat with a faint smirk. "You seem to be getting older every time I see you. How's your health?"
Edric's lips curved into a thin, knowing smile. "Thank you for your concern but I suspect your Majesty's endless mischief will make sure my remaining years are far less peaceful than I'd hoped."
Zalyric let out a low chuckle, resting his chin on one hand as he studied the man. "Still sharp-tongued as ever."
While Zalyric and Edric exchanged their usual back-and-forth, Rowan didn't pay much attention to their conversation. His focus drifted elsewhere mostly toward the window where sunlight spilled across the marble floor. Yet even as he tried to appear indifferent, he could feel Edric's gaze.
