Chapter 223 - Chapter 223: What Kind of Hostage is Best?

It was just as the great detective had said.

When there were about three minutes remaining, the fat robber picked up the two half-full money bags, stuffed the bomb back in, and turned to leave.

At the same time, the thin robber standing next to the hostages began selecting a target.

This one is too old, no good!

Too fat, moves too slowly. This kind of hostage would be a burden!

Dr. Agasa was lucky; he dodged both necessary conditions, though his legs were getting numb from squatting.

Squatting in the corner, the Professor kept looking around for the Repairman.

Where did he run off to?

Soon, he spotted him.

Tsuneo seemed to have just come out of the restroom, whistling as he shook the water off his hands.

"Hey, you, get over here!" The fat robber was startled to suddenly see someone walking over from the side.

"Huh?" Tsuneo caught the duffel bag the robber threw at him, looking a bit confused.

Why did you suddenly throw a bag full of money at me?

Framing me?

"Hold onto that and come with us. Or else, I'll blow your brains out!" The fat robber pointed his gun at the Repairman's head and threatened.

This kind of pretty boy is much easier to control than those women who are so scared their legs have gone soft.

"Oh, okay." Tsuneo put on a slightly frightened expression, hugging the duffel bag and seemingly running nervously toward the thin robber who had already opened the bank's main doors.

He actually picked me.

Could it be that Kudo really is a genius???

Is this psychology, or prophecy...

Conan stood in the shadows, hands in his pockets, watching the three of them run out of the bank with a smile on his lips.

"I hope you can sit in the interrogation room safe and sound..."

"Is there a doctor here?!" Only then did people dare to reach out and help the guard who had been shot.

About two and a half minutes later, the police arrived at the scene.

Inspector Megure rushed into the bank and first took a quick look at the wounded man's condition.

The bullet hadn't hit a vital spot, but the blood loss was significant. Whether he could be saved was still uncertain, and that was even with emergency first aid having been administered.

"Quick, Takagi, where is the ambulance!" Inspector Megure asked the officer behind him.

"It should be here any moment," Conan said, walking up to them.

As soon as the man was shot, he had found an opportunity to call an ambulance and have someone call the police.

Given the speed of both, they should be arriving one right after the other.

"Co-Conan-kun?!" Takagi, with a bandage still wrapped around his head, was clearly startled to see the elementary school student at the scene.

"Oh, it's Inspector Megure!" The Professor walked out from the direction of the restrooms.

He had been the one to administer the emergency aid just now. His hands had been covered in blood, and he had only just washed them clean.

Inspector Megure: "..."

Is it just the grandfather and grandson today?

This combination is rare...

Soon, the ambulance arrived and took the wounded man away.

The police also got a clear understanding of the situation.

"This makes things troublesome!" Inspector Megure's expression grew even graver after learning about the hostage.

The police had already begun an emergency manhunt. If the robbers became desperate, the hostage's safety could not be guaranteed.

"Y-Yes, the young man who was forcibly taken away just now was probably in his twenties. He was wearing a tracksuit, tall... I feel he was quite handsome."

The female staff member being questioned described him like this.

"..." Conan was a bit speechless.

Just describing his features is enough; no need for subjective feelings.

"Regardless, let's first take a look at the security camera footage." Inspector Megure informed headquarters of the specific situation, then looked up at the bank's surveillance cameras.

Bombs and hostages—they had to be extremely careful.

"Right away!" The manager immediately led the police to view the recorded footage.

"W-Wait, can you zoom in here?" Inspector Megure quickly watched through the robbery, which had lasted less than ten minutes.

But he noticed that the young man walking out of the restroom looked a little familiar...

"No problem." As the staff member operated the controls, the area was magnified and became somewhat clearer.

"Brother Tsuneo?!" The round orange inspector exclaimed in disbelief.

I knew it. The grandfather-grandson combo today was too simple. It turns out the Repairman was here too.

And... and he was taken as a hostage...

"The robbers have a bomb. Even for Mr. Tsuneo, handling this might be a bit troublesome," Takagi said with a frown.

Please be safe!

"Heh heh heh, I think he'll be driving the car back very soon..." Conan and Dr. Agasa weren't that nervous.

Inside a silver-white van.

"Big brother, about how much money is here?" The thin robber sitting in the back asked excitedly, holding a gun in one hand and looking at the two duffel bags by his feet.

"I estimate it's a little over a hundred million," the fat robber in the driver's seat boasted.

"Hurry up and change out of your hood and clothes. We're driving toward a secluded area."

The two men took off their leather jackets and the hoods on their heads.

They made no attempt to hide these actions from their hostage, Tsuneo. Clearly, they were prepared to silence him permanently.

The three of them had already switched cars. The two robbers had planned quite well, but this hostage would likely be getting off at the next stop.

"Is it okay to throw and drop the bomb like that?" Tsuneo asked, resting his chin on one hand against the car door, legs crossed as he turned his head.

Looking at his posture, someone who didn't know better might think he was the ringleader.

The thin robber felt the guy was being ridiculous and glared at him.

The fat robber was driving and couldn't see the specific situation, but laughed loudly as he said, "Bomb? You think we'd need a real bomb?"

Pretty boy, too naive.

Robbing a bank isn't that easy. From route planning onwards, every step must be calculated.

Including how different bank managers will react—everything must be considered.

"The depth of knowledge involved really is profound. So, have you also predicted what kind of hostage is best?" Tsuneo smiled and asked.

"Of course..." The fat robber was about to continue answering when he instinctively felt the atmosphere was a bit off.

Are you a hostage or a cop? Why do you talk so much!

"Shut him up!"

The fat robber glanced in the rearview mirror and spoke to his partner.

"No problem!" The thin robber put his gun away and pulled out a dagger from who knows where.

We aren't completely safe yet. Firing a gun in the car won't do. But I can let some of your blood first!

Seeing the man's ferocious grin, Tsuneo couldn't help but recall the scene of the arsonist quenching his dagger with poison.

If you dare to do that, I will definitely rip your head off!

"Die!" The thin robber didn't poison the blade; he simply lunged forward with a terrifying expression.

Shut your mouth forever!

Just as his blood pumped faster and his entire being became incredibly hyped, the anticipated scene did not occur. Instead, a hand, moving neither fast nor slow, perfectly gripped his wrist.

"Why didn't you use the gun? Do you look down on me?"
