As she spoke, she looked at everyone present as though they were complete strangers.
As though they were enemies.

Even Philips, who had planned on treating her gently, was caught off guard.
He unconsciously rubbed his fingers together.
Finally, Conrad slammed his hand onto the table.
The loud bang echoed throughout the room.
