The little raccoon grinned mischievously at the massive figure before him."Big man, look…" he teased."That's not what I mean— even a little girl from outer space talks about you like that.If it were me, I'd have smacked her already."
By now, Drax the Destroyer had been thoroughly provoked—first by Zhou Yi's taunting words, then by Rocket's relentless needling.His patience finally snapped.Eyes burning with fury, the orange-red giant charged across the alien plains, green grass crushed beneath his pounding feet.A cloud of dust billowed up in his wake like a roaring storm.
"Drax!" Star-Lord Peter Quill shouted, trying to call him back to reason.But the Destroyer, mind clouded with rage, didn't hear a thing.He thundered forward, every step shaking the ground, like a runaway engine at full throttle—aimed straight at the calm figure in red ahead.
Zhou Yi's crimson cloak whipped in the wind as he stood unmoving, his eyes cold and sharp.He snorted softly."Hmph. You hate being called ugly? Then I'll just send you into space myself."
He raised a finger.In an instant, a dark vortex burst open before Drax—a black hole, swirling with void-light.
"Wait—again?" Star-Lord blurted, recognizing it at once. "That's the same black hole we saw beneath the ship!"
Realization struck him."Oh no. We can't let Drax run into that thing!"
He quickly fired a shot from his elemental gun.A glowing ion net exploded outward, spanning dozens of meters, and caught Drax mid-charge.The massive warrior jerked to a halt, straining against the crackling web.
Boom!The force nearly yanked Peter off his feet.Bracing himself, he shouted, "Gamora, hang on!" and gently set her down.Then, with his free hand, he latched onto a towering alien tree behind him.
His armor's elastic systems stretched to their limits, his body elongating like taffy under the immense pull.Gritting his teeth, he twisted his arms and gave a violent heave.
With a thunderous crash, Drax was dragged backward—just before he could plunge into the black hole—and thrown heavily to the ground behind the trees.
Boom!
Panting, Peter retracted his armor, restored his form, and exhaled a long, shaky breath.He faced Zhou Yi, frowning."Little girl," he said, "that black hole you just opened—isn't it the same one that pulled us down under the ship? Who exactly are you?"
Peter Quill was not as reckless as he looked.When their ship had first encountered the mysterious vortex, he'd already begun analyzing it, enhancing his cognitive processes through his Celestial heritage.In that instant of total darkness, before anyone else even reacted, he'd noticed a glimmer of light ahead.By his calculations, only 0.034 seconds had passed between entering the void and emerging again—far too short to be a conventional wormhole.
Then their ship crashed onto this planet—further proof that what they'd entered was something else entirely.He couldn't yet determine what kind of anomaly it was, but now, seeing Zhou Yi conjure the same phenomenon with a gesture, he was sure:she was the one who had dragged them down here.And most likely, she was connected to the mysterious energy beam that had struck their ship.
Peter's eyes narrowed."Little girl," he said evenly, "I can tell you're not human. You don't have a heartbeat.If I'm right—you're an intelligent machine, aren't you?"
Zhou Yi's eyes flickered in surprise.She hadn't expected him to figure it out so quickly."And what if I am?" she said coolly."I'm no weaker than any so-called human."
Her gaze shifted briefly toward Xu Fu, her creator, her expression unreadable.
Peter nodded slightly. "So I was right. You're the one who opened that black hole—and the one behind the beam that hit our ship."
Zhou Yi stiffened.That beam had indeed been Xu Fu's doing, but she wasn't about to explain herself to these off-worlders."So what if I did?" she snapped. "What can you do about it? Planning to drag me back with you?"
Her arrogance was palpable—standing there alone, facing three super-powered men without the slightest hint of fear.
Rocket's fur bristled. "Oh, now she's really asking for it," he muttered.
