"So you don't want us to get hurt?" Black Widow asked cautiously as she shifted her seat.
According to Director Fury, Xu Fu was not only invulnerable—he could also fly, crash through thick reinforced ceilings, and pass through nearly ten feet of soil above the Tesseract research base without using any weapons at all.
S.H.I.E.L.D. simulations of that scenario concluded that Xu Fu's body could withstand an impact of at least five hundred tons without sustaining damage.
One Loki was already enough of a headache for S.H.I.E.L.D.; they did not need another enemy at this moment.
Moreover, if Xu Fu could stand on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s side the way Thor did, it would undoubtedly put tremendous pressure on Loki.
This was also the final mission Director Fury had assigned to Black Widow.
Xu Fu, however, had no idea that S.H.I.E.L.D. intended to draw him in to deal with Loki. In his view, dealing with such a weak god—a puny god—hardly required mobilizing everyone.
If necessary, Xu Fu could defeat Loki single-handedly and beat him so thoroughly that he would call for his father.
"Anger?" Xu Fu said calmly. "If by anger you mean retaliation without provocation—then as long as you don't provoke me, I won't trouble you. In fact, I can even help you defeat Loki and recover the Tesseract."
Xu Fu was essentially writing a blank check. According to the storyline, Loki would inevitably surrender in order to enter S.H.I.E.L.D. custody.
Then he would use the Mind Stone to sow distrust among the heroes present, causing them to fracture from within.
After accomplishing all of this, Loki would escape with ease, head to Stark Tower, and open a temporary portal that would allow the Chitauri army to pour into the streets of Manhattan.
Even though Xu Fu's promise was only verbal, Black Widow still felt relieved.
She accepted Xu Fu's proposal and said, "It's great that you're willing to help. Director Fury has already gathered many people with special talents like yours. You'll be interested in meeting them—trust me, you won't be disappointed."
Black Widow Natasha formally extended the invitation. Xu Fu naturally understood that the "people with special talents" she referred to included Iron Man, Captain America, and the others.
Taking a trip through the Marvel world and meeting its heroes was not a bad idea at all.
"Then take me to these 'special talents' you mentioned," Xu Fu replied.
He stood up and smiled. "Alright. I'll invite you to dinner another day."
Natasha smiled back at Xu Fu's teasing. As he exited the private room, she tilted her head slightly and raised her communicator to her ear.
"Mission accomplished. Preparing to return."
Eight kilometers off the coast of New York City, a massive ship slowly rose from the sea.
It was a special operations carrier of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Half an hour earlier, Director Fury had issued the order to set sail, and the behemoth ascended from the abyss.
"Engines online. S.H.I.E.L.D. contingency protocol 193.6 activated. Carrier has reached target altitude, sir," Agent Hill reported.
Director Fury stood on the command platform of the bridge."Activate the cloaking system. Let's disappear."
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Helicarrier was equipped with an advanced background-reflection system that achieved visual invisibility by refracting its surroundings.
At that moment, a black figure appeared directly in front of the ship.
"Sir, unidentified flying object detected—non-human!"
"Report, sir! All shipboard weapons are fully charged and ready to fire!"
Fury looked at the image displayed on the monitor and saw a man floating in the air—the same mysterious figure he had encountered at the Tesseract research base the previous night.
The man had Natasha "Black Widow" tucked under his arm, the two of them talking and laughing as they looked ahead.
"Stand down," Fury said. "Agent Natasha has reported in. This person is not an enemy. Open the beacon and escort them in—"
Before Fury could finish speaking, Xu Fu suddenly surged forward.
Natasha let out a startled cry and instinctively grabbed Xu Fu's hand.
Whether her reaction was genuine fear or an act meant for Xu Fu alone was unclear.
In any case, the Helicarrier's cloaking system could fool ordinary people—but under Xu Fu's penetrating gaze, all disguises were meaningless.
The corner of Fury's mouth twitched."Well, they've spotted us. Open the deck and bring them in."
Two minutes later, Xu Fu and Black Widow Natasha appeared inside the Helicarrier, where Director Fury personally welcomed them.
With him were a burly man dressed in a 1930s-style leather jacket and a doctor with disheveled hair and a slightly unkempt appearance.
Their identities needed no explanation.
"Welcome to Earth, Mr. Xu Fu," Director Fury said. "Please allow me to apologize for my rude conduct yesterday."
Director Fury was someone who knew when to concede—especially after learning of Xu Fu's overwhelming strength. He had no desire to create another powerful enemy for this world.
"I accept your apology, Director Fury," Xu Fu replied calmly. "Also, I come from another universe's Earth—one where S.H.I.E.L.D. does not exist."
Xu Fu stated his identity plainly, without the slightest hint of embarrassment.
For someone possessing absolute power, there was no need to concern himself with consequences—just as a man walking down the road never thinks about whether he might step on an ant.
Director Fury had already received a general report from Black Widow.
The man in the leather jacket frowned slightly."So now we're dealing not only with aliens, but also with people from other universes?"
"Steve," the doctor said with a smile, patting Steve Rogers on the shoulder, "the world has changed a great deal while you were asleep."
He then stepped forward, extended his hand, and smiled at Xu Fu."Hello. My name is Bruce Banner."
Although Dr. Banner specialized in nuclear physics, he also had a strong interest in extraterrestrial phenomena and parallel universes.
Xu Fu examined Dr. Banner with his penetrating gaze, causing the presence deep within Banner to stir with irritation.
The Hulk sensed that Xu Fu was observing him.
Instantly, Xu Fu withdrew his gaze and reached out to shake Dr. Banner's hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Xu Fu."
Seeing everything proceed as expected, Director Fury finally allowed himself a smile, the weight in his heart easing slightly.
"Alright," Fury said. "This isn't the place to talk. Agent Natasha, take them to the lounge."
What followed was a deeper exchange between both sides.
Xu Fu briefly described his abilities: immense strength, invulnerability, flight, and rapid adaptation to different environments.
With Thor, the god of Asgard, already present, such abilities were not difficult for the others to accept.
At one point, Natasha even fired a few shots at Xu Fu out of curiosity. He caught the bullets barehanded, leaving Steve Rogers and Dr. Banner visibly stunned.
Finally, Xu Fu steered the conversation toward this world's technological development—particularly research in space exploration.
Dr. Banner excelled in nuclear physics but was also knowledgeable in multiple scientific disciplines.
Xu Fu proposed several hypotheses regarding spacetime oscillations, as well as methods for detecting and registering such fluctuations.
These theories were actively researched in the Injustice universe, but in the current Marvel universe, they remained purely theoretical.
"Incredible," Dr. Banner exclaimed. "If space is like water, with its own unique ripples… then by understanding those ripples, one could master the properties of time and space—and even travel through them."
He looked at Xu Fu with undisguised admiration."Mr. Xu Fu, I must say—your ideas are astonishing."
