Valda's POV
I paced my chamber like a caged animal, my hands trembling with rage and something else I refused to name. Fear, maybe. Regret.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid," I muttered, pressing my palms against my temples. "You went too far. You always go too far."
The image of Irene crumpling to the ground replayed in my mind. The way her face had twisted in pain. The way she'd gasped, clutching her leg where I'd struck her.
Good. She deserved it, and many more.
But then why did my stomach twist like this? Why did I feel like I'd made a terrible mistake?
Because Yin had seen everything. His face when he'd looked at me, that cold fury in his eyes. I'd never seen him look at anyone like that before.
I stopped pacing and stared at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was a mess and i looked very very desperate.
The word made me flinch. I'd never been desperate before. I'd always been the one in control, the one who got what she wanted through charm and careful manipulation.
