Chapter 191 - Chapter 191: Helping Tommy Clear His Name

Chapter 191: Helping Tommy Clear His Name

As the sun set and night fell, Quinn and Tommy sneaked back to Tommy's neighborhood.

However, they didn't go home. Instead, they turned a corner and arrived at his landlord's door. Covering most of their faces with their clothes, they knocked gently.

Ron, who had been lingering behind them, saw them enter the apartment. Without a second thought, he immediately returned to his hotel and continued to monitor the place through his room's telescope.

The remote-controlled bug tracker was activated, and Tommy's cheerful voice reached his ears: "Happy birthday!"

"You're crazy!"

"Jesus!" Ron nearly fainted. "Brother, it's so late, and you're still thinking about celebrating a beautiful woman's birthday? Don't you think you should be a little nervous? You're a wanted criminal now, okay?"

"I didn't kill anyone, do you believe me?"

"It's no use even if I believe you. The cops need to believe you!"

"That's why I asked Detective Morrison to come here to talk it out."

"Did you steal the drugs?" the beautiful landlord demanded.

Before Tommy could answer, the doorbell rang again.

Through his telescope, Ron saw that Morrison, the detective Tommy was waiting for, hadn't arrived yet, but the three real drug dealers, whom he had let go earlier that day, were already there.

The four men whispered something at the door, and the beautiful landlady, Sofia, assuming Tommy had truly stolen the drugs and that these men were his accomplices, let them in without a second thought.

Soon after, Morrison, Tommy's contact, and Officer Rodriguez, who looked like a nervous accountant, arrived one after another.

With each new arrival, the previous wave had to find a hiding place: closets, behind curtains, under beds... anywhere they could hide, they hid.

There were simply too many people, and in the end, they had to pass one more person off as Sofia's cousin when Officer Rodriguez showed up.

But the most surprising thing was that when Officer Rodriguez returned, this mysterious cousin had been replaced!

From a complete stranger, he now had shifty eyes and an embarrassed expression. Fortunately, Quinn had quick wits.

When Officer Rodriguez asked, "How many cousins do you have?" he began clapping and singing birthday songs: "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..."

At the same time, his "cousins," along with Morrison, emerged from their hiding places, clapping their hands and singing together, turning their awkward situation into a birthday celebration.

"Yes, my cousins and I wanted to give you a surprise, but we didn't expect you to find out. How is it? Are you happy?" Morrison took the cake and held it up in front of Sofia.

"As long as I'm not embarrassed, others will be embarrassed," Ron muttered to himself.

"You...you..." Rodriguez stuttered. "Sofia, you're having quite the party."

Officer Rodriguez, with his nervous expression, couldn't understand why a beauty like Sofia would choose someone like Morrison.

However, Ron had gained some very useful information: while observing through the telescope, he clearly saw Tommy and Quinn hiding in the closet.

But when Officer Rodriguez's partner went to search the closet, he shook his head, pretending not to notice them.

"Interesting," Ron said, his chin resting on his hand, a knowing smile playing on his face.

He had finally found the missing piece in his memory. If he remembered correctly, the drug dealers were supposed to be five people in total.

Besides the three idiots chasing Tommy and the deceased Carlos Mendez, the remaining figure was Officer Rodriguez's partner, the dirty cop Quinn had suspected!

He already had some preliminary ideas on how to clear Tommy's name.

There was no sign of the main evidence yet, but he could first try to turn Tommy and Quinn from wanted criminals into normal people. Even if that wasn't possible, he should at least take the initiative.

With this in mind, Ron left the hotel and followed Morrison, who had left Sofia's apartment, into an alley.

"Detective Morrison, can I have a chat?" Ron suddenly placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Who is it?!" Morrison reflexively leaped back. "Did Captain Rodriguez send you to silence me? You're just trying to cover this up!"

"I'm warning you, I've trained in boxing! Believe it or not, I'll knock you out cold!"

He threatened, but his legs were already shaking.

Ron rolled his eyes. Why are all Miami cops so paranoid? Could he find a reliable one?

If there was one, solving the case wouldn't be so difficult.

"Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you. Or rather, I'm here to give you something." Ron's eyes gleamed with purpose, and his sturdy physique made Morrison feel even more uneasy.

Ron could only continue: "I am Tommy's army buddy. Can we have a good conversation now?"

"Army buddy? I seem to remember that he does have a military friend," Morrison gradually let down his guard: "Why did you come to me? I've arranged for your friend to lay low. Don't worry, as long as he stays out of sight, nothing will happen."

"After all, we're brothers in arms, and you have to look out for each other. Your buddy, I'll make sure someone takes good care of him."

"But my friend didn't kill anyone, let alone steal drugs, so I don't think there's any need for him to run."

"I know, with his personality, you said he'd cheat at poker, I'd believe it, but murder? He doesn't have the guts."

Morrison was actually a reasonable person: "But for something this big, someone has to take the fall. Someone must be caught to report to the brass, and no one is more suitable than him right now. This is a decision from above, and I have no choice."

"Yes, you do. You might even have a chance to advance further with this case, like becoming the new Captain of the Miami Vice division."

Ron's tone was full of temptation, and Morrison, who was already competing with Captain Rodriguez, immediately asked eagerly, "What opportunity?"

"Did you notice something strange just now?" Ron repeated his analysis of Officer Rodriguez's partner to Morrison.

Morrison suddenly realized, "You mean there's another person involved in the drug theft, Rodriguez's partner?"

"Holy shit! If there's evidence to prove that, I don't think he'll have the right to compete with me for the Captain position!" Morrison exclaimed, "Do you have any evidence?"

"No evidence yet, but we can set up a trap to lure him out." Ron immediately had an idea, leaning down to whisper in Morrison's ear: "First, the first step is to take me to Mr. Valdez, the original owner of the drugs. Then, just do this..."

There will be another update later, but it will be a bit late, so I'll keep it brief. You can wait until tomorrow to read it.
