Chapter 8 - Encounter

Rudolph, City of Von 2067

It was now the morning after the attack on Noah. Rudolph gets up out of his bed and goes to the bathroom to get ready for the day.

Rudolph's morning routine was quite simple: every morning, he woke up, went to the bathroom, opened the drawer under his sink, and grabbed his toothbrush and some floss. After he was done brushing and flossing, he would put everything back, then go back into the drawer and grab some hair powder spray, and start spraying it all around his hair. Finally, when he was done with the hair powder spray, he would put it back in the drawer, close it, then walk back to his bedroom and grab the clothes he would wear to work that day.

After changing into his clothes, he would then walk out of his bedroom and walk to the kitchen, which wasn't far. Once in the kitchen, he would open a cabinet, grab some cereal, and then go to the fridge for milk. After that, he would get a bowl to put his cereal and milk in.

And after all that, he goes to sit on his couch and turn on the morning news.

Once some time passes, Rudolph finishes up his cereal. He begins to get up off the couch and turn the news off when the news reporter unexpectedly covers the death of a woman who committed suicide in a mental hospital.

Rudolph, who is now completely standing up, just stands there as he looks at the name of the person who committed suicide.

"Elizabeth Ashford."

Rudolph immediately runs to put his bowl in the sink, then dashes over to his car keys.

Once outside, Rudolph unlocks his car and gets in, then pulls out his phone and opens the "Tea Friends" app. Upon opening the app, Rudolph's phone gets blown up with posts covering Elizabeth Ashford's death.

Rudolph continues scrolling through the posts when he comes across one that scares him. People are posting rumors that Amelia Ashford might have been getting bullied.

With urgency, Rudolph puts his phone away and starts the car.

"What a great way to start the morning."

Arriving at the police station, Rudolph walks through the sliding doors to be greeted by A-3.

"Hello, sir."

Rudolph runs past him.

A-3 follows Rudolph to his desk and just watches as Rudolph sits at his computer, searching for news about the sketch he showed the reporters last night.

"AH! Ha! We got something A-3!"

A-3 analyzes the computer screen.

"You're right. There are a bunch of people talking about how they have seen him before."

Rudolph clicks through all the messages and finally lands on one.

"Look! Right here! This person sent a message saying they saw a person who fits the description of the sketch I drew."

Rudolph looks up at A-3

"They said they saw this person working at Robots Specialty."

Rudolph jumps out of his seat and starts to make for the door.

"A-3. You have heard what happened to the chief, right?"

A-3 follows behind Rudolph.

"Yes, his wife passed away. Elizabeth Ashford."

Rudolph then stops and turns towards A-3.

"How many meaningless deaths are we at now?"

Rudolph licks his lips.

"Too many. All because we're failing to do our job."

Rudolph turns to leave when, all of a sudden, a man in a black-and-white suit with a black tie walks through the doors. The man has black hair with a side part and grey eyebrows. He also has no facial hair and no earrings. The only jewelry he has on is a silver watch on his left wrist and a ring on his left ring finger. The man is also protected by three bodyguards, one on each side of him and one behind him.

Rudolph stands there, sweat beginning to form on his face, whispers into A-3's ear.

"It's the governor of Von."

The governor just stands there, puts his hands together, and throws a freaky big smile at everyone.

"Well, how are all of you guys doing this morning?"

Rudolph throws up a look of disgust.

"His smiles always give me the creeps."

The governor turns his head to the left and looks into the chief's office. The office is dark, and the door is open.

The governor turns his head back to look at everyone. His face turns into a frown.

"Looks like he isn't here today?"

The governor then chuckles and walks up to Rudolph, tapping him on the nose with a massive smile.

"I guess that just leaves you now, huh?"

The governor sighs and begins walking around the silent police station.

"I would like you to tell me, please, that you have something on all the recent murders that have been happening?"

The governor snaps his head back with his tongue out and seems to give off a disappointed look.

Rudolph clears his throat.

"Actually, we do have something. We might have found a possible suspect after showing that sketch to the media."

The governor gives a look of approval.

"Well, it's about time we have something, wouldn't you say?"

Rudolph nods his head in agreement.

"Yes, sir."

The governor then turns his back on everyone and heads for the doors.

"Well, until next time!" He says, waving as he walks through the doors.

Rudolph sighs, then signals to A-3 with his hand that they are leaving.

Once in the car, Rudolph and A-3 set out for Luminara Square to go and pay a visit to William Frances.

Rudolph, standing in front of the sliding glass door, just looks up towards the sky.

"This place never ceases to amaze me with how huge it is."

Rudolph and A-3 enter Robots Specialty and head for the front desk.

Rudolph points to the front desk with a smile.

"Hey! I remember you! Your name is Bell! You were here the last time we came."

Bell smiles at Rudolph.

"Yep, that's me."

Rudolph rubs the back of his head.

"Ah, right, I kinda forgot that you're a robot like A-3 here."

Bell continues to smile.

"Well, how can I help you today, sir?"

"Ah, yes, I would like to see if William Frances can speak with us."

Bell looks down at her computer as she types.

"I see, well, I have unfortunate news. He isn't currently available, right now."

Rudolph sighs, then goes into his pocket to pull out his badge.

"Okay, well, sorry I wasn't asking."

Bell understands the situation immediately.

"Sorry for the confusion, sir, but he is currently at his vacation home right now."

Rudolph wasn't in a good mood anymore. He puts his badge back into his coat pocket and slams both of his hands on the front desk.

"Well, where is his vacation home?"

Bell just stands there, hesitating to tell Rudolph where the vacation home is. But after some thought, she gives in.

"It's about an hour from here, it's located on the backroads of a small town called SunnySide."

Rudolph, looking pleased, turns around and walks toward the front doors. A-3 follows. Bell waves to them as they walk out with a smile on her face.

An hour passes with Rudolph driving and A-3 in the car, but they finally pass a sign that says "Welcome to SunnySide."

As they drive through Sunny Side, Rudolph and A-3 look out their windows at all the houses and stores, and see that most have broken or boarded-up windows. Some of the houses' roofs and doors have holes. There are also many wild pets wandering around; most of them are skinny.

Rudolph sighs.

"This is such a depressing town."

A-3 doesn't answer; he instead points to the back road that they're supposed to take to get to William Frances' vacation house.

Rudolph turns his car onto the long dirt road.

While driving along the dirt road, Rudolph looks around and notices there are almost no houses or people.

Finally reaching the end of the dirt road, they arrive at William Frances' vacation home.

Rudolph puts the car in park and gets out.

"Let's go A-3."

Rudolph and A-3 walk along a snowy path through the woods until they come across two people just standing there, almost like they were expecting them. One of them was William Frances.

Rudolph stops, then puts his arm out in front of A-3 to stop him.

"There's William Frances."

Rudolph takes a breath in and out and wipes his hands together.

"There also seems to be someone else here."

Rudolph puts his hands to his mouth to try to make more noise.

"Hello there, William Frances!"

Rudolph then yells over to the other person.

"And Hello to whoever you are!"

William Frances just stands there sinisterly.

"We've been expecting you guys."

Rudolph throws a look of confusion.

"You've been expecting us?"

William Frances smiles evilly.

"Yes."

Rudolph takes a closer look at the person beside William Frances.

"It's him. He's the one we have been looking for." Rudolph says to A-3.

William Frances looks over to the person beside him.

"This is bad, they're starting to catch on! So I have an idea!"

William Frances laughs and watches the person next to him begin to walk towards Rudolph and A-3.

"Kill them."
