Chapter 227 - Chapter 227: My Love, Unfurl Your Law-Essence

Zeus played affectionately with his beloved goddess, rubbing his cheek against her delicate, lotus-soft beauty.

Basking in his beloved's sweetness, he narrowed his eyes in contentment and, in a very innocent tone, asked in puzzlement, "Who in all the cosmos would dare trespass on Olympus? Who could trespass on Olympus?"

"And who would dare offend my most beloved Goddess of Wisdom?"

The wisdom goddess stretched out slender jade fingers and seized the three newly sprouted strands of hair of different colors on Zeus's head.

Metis twined those locks around her alabaster-thin fingertips, spinning them back and forth as she said with a half-smile, "Who can say?"

"This universe is never short of gods of every stripe."

"Even atop Olympus, the universe's very center, aren't there still plenty of 'little sneak-thieves' who love to pilfer a bite?"

Hearing the pointed words in his beloved's arms, with certain terms given special emphasis, even Zeus's famously thick skin could hardly keep his expression unchanged.

After all, there was another innocent, lovely goddess beside them, gazing up with big, shy eyes.

He, Zeus the God-King, also cared about his reputation! At least a little!

So he decisively changed the subject. "Ahem… My love, I truly have been beset by all manner of trifles lately."

"But! My longing for you has never lessened by a single hair's breadth! Every moment, I'm thinking of you!"

"My longing makes every instant of my divinity burn unbearably hot!"

"If you don't believe me, feel it—my heart has been pounding for you all this time!"

The wisdom goddess, naturally, would not really press him mercilessly.

Since her sister was beside them, she could not bear to truly embarrass her beloved God-King.

She shot Zeus a cross look, but she did release his hair.

Of course, she did not immediately lay her hand upon her beloved's chest.

Though she missed him dearly as well…

Hmph!

This time, he shouldn't think a sweet line or two will let him muddle through!

At least—

At least a few dozen lines!

From her nose she let out a bewitching little hum and, with obvious coy contrariness, said petulantly, "All right, all right, I know."

"Our great God-King labors over the cosmos's grand affairs, handles myriad matters by the day, busy beyond compare—naturally, there are truly weighty matters to tend."

Zeus chuckled and left it at that.

At such times, words are no match for the most direct action.

He gave no heed to the other beautiful goddess at his side, but with a rough tenderness, at once ardent and greedy, kissed and kissed the beloved in his arms.

Held tight by the God-King's iron-hoop arms, the wisdom goddess made a token struggle, which only pressed their bodies closer, so each could feel the other's divine yearning burning hot.

She could not escape—and had no wish to.

At last she gave up resisting, lifted eyes long brimmed with wisdom and now shimmering like rippling water, and gave Zeus a helpless yet exquisitely sultry sidelong glance, half refusing, half yielding to this domineering tenderness.

She had said she would not forgive him so easily, but seeing her beloved God-King craving her so desperately—

the wisdom goddess's heart, long steeped in longing, softened despite herself.

How could she refuse her beloved's affectionate hunger?

Gently, she returned a kiss upon the God-King's handsome cheek.

Then, like a startled cat, she hid her pretty face deep against Zeus's broad, warm chest,

pressing close to her beloved's firm, heated torso, greedily breathing in that uniquely his, thunder-and-firmament-laced scent she adored above all.

Truthfully, she, too, missed her beloved God-King beyond words.

It had been far, far too long since she had held him like this, free of all restraint, in private.

That tender, exasperating God-King had been busy weaving the order of Heaven for so long, then oversaw that grand convocation of all the gods.

When the gathering ended, he vanished again.

They had met only briefly at the feast before the convocation.

She truly, deeply longed for the love of her heart.

Without her beloved at her side, every minute, every moment stretched long and hard to bear.

A god's life felt like a glass of water drained of all color and savor—so bland as to feel meaningless.

Now, in the temple of Wisdom that belonged to her alone, clasped so tightly in her beloved's arms,

this happiness that seemed to melt all divinity was the supreme treasure she would crave forever through her endless life.

As for her sister being there…

It didn't matter; her good sister wasn't an outsider.

And—

The pure Eurynome watched the two deities clinging together, saw her good elder sister perched on the God-King's lap in a possessive embrace,

so close that even time and space seemed barred from entering. Her envious gaze was almost impossible to hide!

She sat demure and well-behaved to the side, fingers nervously entwined, aching—oh, aching—to fling herself into the arms of the God-King she adored beyond measure.

His Majesty's embrace looked so broad, so solid.

Even holding both sisters at once would be no problem at all.

Zeus cradled his beloved with infinite indulgence, like the greediest sweet-tooth, rubbing his cheek obsessively against the goddess's jade-smooth face, pecking her again and again.

The honey-tongued God-King murmured in her ear in a slightly husky, magnetic voice, "My love, I truly missed you."

"You know it—I really can't do without you. Wherever I am, whenever it is, my heart is always thinking of you."

The wisdom goddess could feel her beloved's absolute sincerity as clear as day.

In an instant, her heart melted into the softest spring water.

That little wisp of resentment and jealousy had already melted, quietly, into the heat of love.

This was the God-King she loved most.

She loved him even more than herself.

So long as they could hold each other like this, then nothing else mattered.

Truly, nothing else mattered.

"My love, I know—I know it all."

With the most sincere, tender, and ardent words, the wisdom goddess answered the God-King's love: "My love, I will always be yours and always in your arms. You are my everything. Beyond that, everything else is trivial."

Her voice was not loud, nor was her tone impassioned, yet the ocean-deep devotion and sincerity were laid bare in those gentle, resolute words.

Zeus's heart, for the moment, turned to utter softness.

His hard core was filled through with an indescribable tenderness and emotion.

He did not doubt a syllable of his beloved's words.

Still less did he doubt that Metis's love for him surpassed his love for her—more pure, more profound.

Metis loved him more than he loved her.

Zeus could not hold back. He bent his head and, gently yet imperiously, captured the goddess's soft, tender lips.

A faint, rich sweetness like the finest divine nectar burst across their tongues, and in that instant their whole divinities were deeply intoxicated.

At the side, Eurynome's small mouth parted slightly, her clear eyes first shocked, then filled with boundless curiosity.

At last, they brimmed with expectation and longing.

She raised her dainty hands and lightly covered her cheeks, but peeped through her fingers in secret.

"Waoh~~~"

Her envy grew.

After a long, long while, the two deities slowly parted.

Once they separated, the wisdom goddess sank once more into a daze woven of joy and love.

Her already flawless, fair face flushed redder than summer's brightest blossoms, and her wise eyes brimmed with glimmering waves like autumn water.

Immersed in love's happiness, she had lost her wisdom—but was, as ever, breathtakingly beautiful.

Zeus gazed deeply into his beloved's soulful eyes and, in the gentlest yet gravest tone, said, "My love, I have a unique gift for you."

"Please, without reservation, unfurl before me your most resplendent, most beautiful, great law-essence of 'Wisdom.'"

Though the wisdom goddess did not know what he meant, she did not hesitate in the least.

Whatever Zeus asked of her—even to surrender her life and divinity on the spot—she would not waver.

The most beautiful, most radiant, greatest, most glorious, and most profound of laws unfolded once more, without reserve, before the God-King, laying bare all her mysteries.

Metis, the wisdom goddess, that great and noble Oceanid, possessed only a single law-essence.

But this one alone was truly unique, truly supreme!

In value and in station, it effortlessly surpassed nearly all the laws within existence.
