Chapter 1 - Prologue...

Nobody cares about an extra. Not in fiction, not in reality. I know it, you know it, we all know it. And that's fine — I don't care about them either, so I can't exactly complain.

Everyone thinks they're the main character of their own life. Doesn't matter. Being the MC of your own story means nothing if you're just an extra in everyone else's.

So yeah. No need to worry about anyone else. Just focus on yourself. Be just yourself.

BAAM!!

Something — or someone — just slammed into the dungeon wall.

As the dust settled, it revealed a young girl struggling to get up, blood dripping from her mouth as she coughed.

"ARGHH!! Take this!!" another voice shouted as someone charged the monster.

[Sword Art: Swift Slash]

Clang!

Useless. The monster's skin was as solid as rock. Some skill-user, probably — this world runs on that system nonsense, swords that glow, monsters that don't die from normal hits. Whatever. Not my problem.

The monster swung its massive arm, swatting the swordsman away like a mosquito.

"AGHHH!!" he screamed as blood sprayed, his body smashing into the wall.

Two down. The third one — nowhere to be seen. Already ran off. Can't blame them. Because I'm doing the same.

Was about to, but—

Growl?

The monster froze. One of the humans he'd thrown down was getting back up. Standing again on shaky legs.

ROARLL!!

Seeing his attack had "failed," the monster went into a frenzy, charging at the girl with even greater fury.

She's doomed anyway. Nothing I can do. Nothing I should do. The MC will get here eventually. No need to get involved.

Though I kept telling myself that, for some reason I couldn't turn away. Not yet.

'Don't need to worry about them…'

The girl stood up properly. But instead of running, she smiled.

'Don't need to worry about them…'

That smile — beautiful. But her eyes—

'Don't need to worry about them…'

They were crying. Smiling, but her eyes were crying. Like the world was already ending for her.

And then — someone else's face flashed in my mind, overlapping hers. Just for a second. I didn't even register whose.

'Don't need to worry—'

…ah, fuck this.

Before I realized it, I was already running toward her.

I don't know why. I knew I shouldn't. I knew if I did this, I might die. And yet, here I am.

"System, allocate all attribute points to speed."

Damn. Those were my hard-earned points. Sigh.

[Do you wish to allocate all AP to Speed?]

{Yes / No}

'Yes.'

A sudden lightness ran through my body. My speed exploded, and for a second I thought the world had gone slow motion.

Woosh!

BAAM!!!

The monster crashed headfirst into the dungeon wall, shattering it completely. If she'd still been standing there — god, I don't want to think about it.

I looked down at the girl in my arms. She stared at me, wide-eyed, utterly shocked and confused. Who could blame her.

I was the first to ditch them. And now here I am, saving her.

Ha. Hypocrisy on top, huh?

Anyway. How the hell did I end up here?

Don't expect an answer. Even I don't know. The only thing I can say is — it all started just a month ago.

That's all. Now — shoo shoo. Gotta take care of this.
