"Because Aria is what?!" I growled, eyes locked on the seer. She didn't flinch. She held my gaze like she'd been expecting the outburst.
"That girl carries death with her," she murmured.
"Death?" I sneered. What kind of nonsense was this? Just because one girl died and others before her, the elders suddenly wanted to pin it all on Aria? The Luna game had been bloody from the start, but no one batted an eye until she fought back.
I turned sharply to Elder Bernard, keeping my voice calm despite the heat rising under my skin. "You're trying to set me up with your daughter, aren't you?"
He gave a slow shrug. Not even pretending to deny it.
"At this point, it doesn't matter who you choose, Alpha," he said smoothly. "My daughter or not. Though she is the best candidate." He smiled, barely. "But what we won't allow is for that girl to become our Luna."
