Willow couldn't believe her ears. Sage was definitely hiding something but if she and Sylas weren't talking about her, then who?
"Oh, you have to be kidding me," Sage snapped, cutting through Willow's thoughts. "Why on earth would I waste my time spying on you? Who do you think you are?" Her voice dripped with disdain. "You're just a mere Dreg who's getting attention from the big boys, and it's getting to your head. But trust me—" she leaned in close, her breath hot with fury, "you'll be forgotten sooner or later. You will be. So go ahead and enjoy it while it lasts."
She straightened, gave a mocking laugh, and turned on her heel.
Willow just exhaled slowly, brushing her shoulder off with a disgusted expression, like she was wiping away filth. Without another word, she walked off down the corridor.
Behind her, Sage paused, her smile fading into a cold, hard expression. She pulled out her phone and pressed it to her ear.
