Inside S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, the intelligence division was in full emergency mode, poring over satellite data from Afghanistan.
Tony Stark had gone missing after the ambush, and every department was now mobilized to find him.
Agent Maria Hill scanned the latest report, a faint look of surprise flickering in her eyes.
"Director, we've detected an unidentified flying object leaving New York—moving at Mach 3… no, Mach 4."
Nick Fury's one good eye widened slightly. Then he immediately snapped,
"Call Byakuya. Find out if it's him. And mark that object's flight path—see if it lines up with Afghanistan."
"Right away, sir." Hill's fingers flew over the keyboard. Moments later a map appeared, the route drawn as a perfectly straight line cutting across continents. The destination was obvious.
"Director, we can't reach Byakuya, and Kingpin's avoiding the question," Agent Coulson reported.
Fury tapped his desk, thoughtful.
"When did those two get so close to Stark…? Never mind. Keep monitoring. Whatever that thing is, its goal's probably the same as ours."
Meanwhile, in the Multiverse Chat Group
Dozens of users sent friendly greetings to the new member, Tony Stark—but none of their messages got a reply.
"Strange… he's just like that 'Deep Blue' guy before," muttered Yue Buqun, stroking his false beard.
Kanna Kimijima suddenly remembered something.
"Wait, isn't Tony Stark the name of Iron Man from Marvel? His father's Howard Stark, right?"
"How would you know his relatives?" Yue Buqun asked suspiciously.
"It's from a comic I've read," Kanna explained. "Probably just a coincidence."
The group's "All-Knowing Great Deity" sighed behind the scenes. This is why I hate adding modern-world members… they figure things out too fast.When Tony still didn't answer private messages, the deity frowned. Don't tell me he's already been captured in Afghanistan…
Above the Afghan Desert
Thunder rolled across the sky. A sharp sonic boom split the clouds as Byakuya came to a stop fifty kilometers up, scanning the endless sand below.
He visualized the terrain in his mind—every ridge, every hidden valley. According to the movie he'd seen, the terrorist base holding Stark was inside a desert cave not far from a U.S. airbase.
With that, Byakuya dived. He punched through the clouds like a meteor, trailing shockwaves behind him.
Inside the Cave
Dr. Yinsen was in the middle of delicate surgery, removing the larger shrapnel pieces from Tony's chest. Smaller fragments were still embedded too deeply; he planned to use a magnetic device later to keep them from reaching the heart.
A distant rumble shook the ground. Dust fell from the ceiling.
An explosion? Yinsen thought nervously, not daring to stop his work.
Outside, the desert floor erupted as Byakuya landed, the air trembling from the impact. The armed men guarding the area stared in disbelief at the young man floating above the sand.
"Tony Stark is here, isn't he?" Byakuya asked calmly in flawless Pashto.
The leader hesitated, recognizing the name—and the face.
"You… you're Byakuya?"
A faint smile crossed the young man's lips.
"Wrong answer."
The next instant, a wave of blinding light and compressed air surged outward. The sandstorm swallowed the camp whole.
When it cleared, silence reigned. The base, the weapons, the men—all were gone. Only the wind over the dunes remained.
Byakuya lowered his gaze toward the cavern.
"Found you, Stark."
