Steve felt a somewhat unexpected excitement from his crime-fighting activities with Dominic and Blonsky, and he wasn't sure why. For several days, they moved between cities, ending each battle with lightning speed. Dominic always made a high-profile entrance, while Blonsky would applaud him at every opportunity, as if this 'hero' was truly omnipotent.
Tonight, the group once again dumped a bunch of thugs in front of the police station, leaving everyone sprawled helplessly on the ground. Steve looked at these criminals and couldn't help but recall the sweat he'd shed on the battlefield before, finding it surprisingly similar to his current work—but with a hint of novelty. He quietly glanced at Dominic, and couldn't help but think of the few Superman comics he had recently read, feeling a bit curious about Dominic's 'invincible' abilities.
"Hey, Dominic, your abilities... they remind me of Superman," Steve tentatively began, trying to make his tone sound like casual chat.
Dominic flashed a confident smile, shrugging his shoulders as if he had been waiting for this remark for a long time. Just as he was about to say something, Blonsky spoke first, with an exaggerated expression of surprise on his face, as if Steve had just said something Earth-shatteringly scandalous: "Superman? Give me a break! Dominic is way stronger than Superman! Superman would have to come to Dominic for lessons to know what real strength is!"
Listening to Blonsky's 'exaggerated praise', Dominic's mouth curved slightly upward, as if he was enjoying a grand personal awards ceremony. He nodded subtly with a meaningful look, closing his eyes slightly, seemingly savoring those 'glorious moments', his expression every second filled with narcissism.
"Blonsky is right, Captain, Superman is just a minor character," Dominic slowly opened his eyes and said in an 'unquestionable' tone. "Although they call me a 'hero', this is actually just my daily job. I told Tony a long time ago that it's rare to save the World as easily and Chic ly as I do."
Steve couldn't help but roll his eyes, remembering the classic scenes from Superman comics: Superman constantly overcoming difficulties and fighting alone to protect Earth. Compared to Dominic, it was completely different. Steve tried to bring the conversation back: "But, with abilities like yours, don't you feel a bit lonely? After all, the feeling of being invincible must be quite difficult for anyone to understand."
Dominic shrugged casually, looking profound and mysterious, as if adding drama to himself: "Lonely? How could that be? I'm always surrounded by people who admire and adore me. Who wouldn't want this kind of glory? Besides, true powerhouses never need others to understand them."
Blonsky added fuel to the fire with boasts from the side: "Exactly, Captain! Dominic doesn't even deign to look directly at criminals! The other day I saw him confront a purse thief in a department store! It was so fast—Dominic made that thief understand what absolute crushing is in one second."
"Yes, it's still necessary to make those minor characters face reality and know what a 'modern hero' is," Dominic said seriously, with an expression of unparalleled smugness on his face. He patted Steve's shoulder and said earnestly, "Captain, sometimes people like us are destined to bear more missions than ordinary people. After all, the aura of a powerhouse cannot be tarnished."
Steve looked at Dominic speechlessly, feeling that this speech was simply a farce. Meanwhile, Blonsky was desperately trying to suppress his laughter, looking at Dominic with an overly exaggerated look of adoration, as if watching a 'true god'. He chimed in, "Yes, Captain, we should learn more from Dominic and try to be single-minded and free from distractions. A powerhouse like Dominic has incomparable focus!"
Steve suddenly felt a strange sense of exhaustion, but he had to admit that Dominic's confidence did have a peculiar 'infectiousness'. While it was frustrating, it also gave him a hint of amusement and relaxation. So, he sighed, seemingly with a touch of relief, and said, "Okay, maybe I should indeed learn your 'hedonistic attitude'. But can we be a little more low-key? After all... saving the World isn't for showing off."
Dominic raised an eyebrow, looking 'offended', as if Steve had just blasphemed the dignity of 'invincibility': "Captain, you're wrong about that! Low-key? That's just because you're not strong enough. A powerhouse naturally has to show their radiance."
Blonsky nodded vigorously from the side, adding another blow with feigned seriousness: "Exactly, Captain, our Dominic comes with his own BGM! If he doesn't show off, is he still our Dominic?"
Just then, Dominic suavely adjusted his collar, looking as if 'destiny cannot be defied': "Captain, I'm not trying to say anything, but you just have to get used to all this. I'm destined to leave a 'legend' in this World. Who can resist such a fate?"
Steve was speechless and could only smile slightly, muttering to himself, "This guy really takes advantage and still acts innocent..." But looking at Dominic's narcissistic appearance, he couldn't help but feel that this way of life might also have its unique charm.
Blonsky seemed to see through Steve's thoughts, leaning over and whispering, "How about it, Captain? Feel the urge to join us in 'shining brightly'? See, isn't this much better than having a stern face every day?"
Steve looked at Blonsky's 'smug' smiling face and couldn't help but laugh dumbfoundedly, shaking his head: "Alright, maybe you have a point." He glanced at Dominic, who was immersed in self-praise, and said softly, "Just... don't get too arrogant. After all, a true hero isn't just about appearance."
Dominic raised his eyebrows slightly upon hearing this, with an expression that said 'you're still too young': "Captain, a hero needs not only strength but also confidence. That's the style of people like us. As for you, don't worry, you'll understand slowly."
The three of them stood at the police station entrance, the flashing police lights behind them illuminating the night sky. Steve suddenly felt a strange sense of reassurance looking at his two narcissistic partners beside him. Although their styles were bizarre, it seemed to be another special way of being a 'hero'. He couldn't help but smile, thinking, "Perhaps, this life isn't so bad."
Just then.
Steve's phone suddenly rang, interrupting the relaxed atmosphere. He glanced at the screen and saw that the caller ID was Nick Fury, his expression instantly turning serious.
He quickly answered the phone: "Nick?"
Fury's calm, low voice came from the other end of the line, concise and unambiguous: "Captain, stop vacation mode, report back for assembly immediately."
As soon as he finished speaking, Fury had already hung up, leaving Steve stunned for a moment, not yet fully recovered from the previous pleasantness.
He slowly put down his phone, turned to look at Dominic and Blonsky, a hint of helplessness and solemnity in his eyes: "Looks like... our 'enjoyment time' has to be paused."
