Chapter 86 - Heroes prepare for battle, back row eats melons

Nick, Coulson, and Natasha heard Maria Hill's urgent voice: "Director! Hawkeye is hijacking several fighter jets and coming directly towards us with his team... apparently to rescue Loki!"

Nick's expression immediately tightened, and he turned to inform everyone present: "Loki's rescue plan has begun, all units get in position immediately! Prepare to engage, ensure he doesn't leave this carrier."

Steve nodded, quickly walked past Nick, stopped, and said in a low voice, "Nick, once this mission is over, I hope you can clearly explain those things Tony mentioned." His eyes held an undeniable seriousness, and he immediately left the conference room to join the action.

Everyone quickly entered a state of readiness, and the call to action sounded. Banner was assigned to a group with Coulson, and couldn't help but feel some resistance. He silently scanned the other team members, noticing that everyone had been given their own independent tasks, while he was still assigned to accompany Coulson. Even someone like Blonsky, who could transform into the "Abomination," was allowed to act alone. What about him? Just because he couldn't completely control the Hulk's power, he had to be "protectively" placed beside someone else?

This feeling fermented deep within Banner, as if a flame was slowly igniting in his heart, gradually rising into an impulse of anger. For a moment, a thought of destroying everything flashed through his mind, which startled him. Banner swallowed uneasily, cold sweat beaded on his forehead, and he almost instinctively hurried towards the restroom, trying to calm down.

Coulson noticed Banner's abnormality, quickly followed, and called out in confusion, "Dr. Banner, where are you going?"

Banner had his back to him and felt only irritation upon hearing the voice; the suppressed desire for destruction in his mind was actually stirring. This emotion made him even more uneasy, so he could only quicken his pace into the restroom and harshly splash cold water on his face, trying to maintain his sanity.

On the other side, Dominic saw everyone else quickly dispersing, smiled, stretched, and turned to Blonsky, saying leisurely, "Looks like the Director doesn't plan to put us in."

Blonsky looked a bit confused, but his eyes subtly revealed a hint of admiration as he whispered, "Dominic, neither of us received orders. Do you think these guys simply don't know how to deal with us, so they just let it go?"

Dominic curved a triumphant smile, narcissistically patting his chest: "Heh, Blonsky, of course. After all, as the Homelander, I never take orders from anyone." He deliberately drew out his words, his eyes holding a hint of confident playfulness, "That one-eyed snake Nick isn't giving orders? Maybe this is his way of piquing my interest, making me step in on my own initiative. The old fox, he really knows how to play."

Blonsky couldn't help but laugh, nodding in agreement, "Dominic, you really see through things. We're the strongest here, after all, Nick's hands-off attitude must be a psychological game."

A hint of slyness flashed in Dominic's eyes, and he said smugly, "Hmph, they think they can use provocation to stir up my rebellious side? I don't fall for that." Saying this, he lightly adjusted his collar and adopted a leisurely posture, "They won't let us act? Alright, then we'll just stay here and enjoy the show. When they're beaten black and blue, let's see who comes begging us."

The two exchanged glances, and Blonsky couldn't help but laugh, as if he could already see others falling into chaos and having to ask for their help. Dominic smiled slightly, his eyes holding a kind of playful expectation, as if this "provocation" felt particularly interesting to him.

At this moment, the alarm suddenly blared, and Hill's voice came over the broadcast: "Enemy approaching, all personnel get in position and prepare to engage."

Just as Nick Fury was preparing to continue suppressing the flames of internal conflict, Maria Hill's urgent voice suddenly came through his earpiece: "Director, Hawkeye is hijacking several fighter jets and approaching us, target is clear, he's obviously here to rescue Loki!"

Nick's face instantly became serious. He scanned everyone in the conference room and went directly into combat mode: "Listen up, Hawkeye is attacking us with the enemy. This is a direct confrontation, there's no room for failure. You will act independently, I need the Avengers to go all out." He quickly assigned tasks, his voice booming, "Tony, Thor, you're responsible for aerial interception; Natasha, you and Steve support the ground, ensure no enemies infiltrate; Coulson, you take Banner and prepare to support the rear, we cannot let him control the inside."

Tony adjusted his armor while giving Nick a sarcastic glance: "Truly a perfect arrangement, Director. You people really love telling others how to 'ensure safety'." Despite saying this, he quickly turned and walked towards the door, clearly ready to engage in combat.

Steve stood up, nodded steadily, and whispered as he passed Nick, "Nick, after this operation is over, I hope you can explain to me what Tony was talking about." His expression was serious, his eyes showing a hint of inquiry and vigilance, and he then quickly left the conference room to prepare for the mission.

Just as everyone was heading out, Banner was assigned to accompany Coulson, which made him feel some resistance. He watched as everyone else was allowed to act independently, while he still had to be "looked after." This subtle feeling of being looked down upon brought a suffocating sense of being "imprisoned" to his heart. He lowered his head slightly, sweat beaded on his forehead, and an impulse for destruction within him almost made him shiver: "Just because I'm the Hulk, just because I haven't fully controlled the Hulk yet? Even Blonsky, who can turn into the Abomination, can act independently, but I can only be assigned to the rear... Am I the one who can't be trusted?"

Feeling the restlessness inside him gradually increase, Banner secretly pinched himself, immediately turned and hurried towards the restroom, trying hard to use cold water to cool down and stay calm.

"Uh, Dr. Banner?" Coulson looked at Banner's suddenly hasty retreating back, couldn't help but ask in confusion, and quickly followed, trying to catch up to him, "Where are you going? We have to go together—"

But Banner was currently trapped by his inner emotions, and the voices in his ears seemed to blur into background noise. He clenched his fists tightly, his eyes slightly red, and an almost uncontrollable desire for destruction faintly emerged in his mind. He gritted his teeth and forced out a breath, trying hard to stay clear-headed, quickly splashed cold water on his face, letting the icy droplets slide down his cheeks, trying to suppress this unease.

Coulson heard the sound of water outside the restroom door, seemed to finally understand something, and asked with a hint of concern in his tone, "Banner, are you okay? Do you need my help?"

Banner closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and replied in a low voice, "No need, Coulson. I... I can handle it myself." There was a hint of struggle in his words as he tried his best to restrain the anger from erupting within him.

Just as Coulson was about to ask another question, footsteps were heard at the door. Blonsky walked in, patted Coulson's shoulder, raised an eyebrow, and said teasingly, "Hey, Coulson, looks like you're pretty busy. The Director really didn't order Dominic and me to fight!"

Coulson couldn't help but glance back at Dominic—the Homelander was leaning leisurely against the conference table, showing no intention of moving, but rather an expression of watching a good show. Blonsky, meanwhile, seemed both confused and somewhat admiring of Nick's arrangement, saying softly, "Nick is quite 'understanding', he really knows what it means to 'leave a way out'."

Dominic smiled slightly, looking unconcerned, shrugged leisurely, and said lazily, "Hey, I'm the Homelander, I'm the only one who can come and go as I please in this kind of situation. You want me to follow orders? Nick's indifference actually piqued my interest—he's not letting me interfere, isn't that just 'inviting' me to take matters into my own hands?"

Blonsky couldn't help but laugh, looking at him with a hint of admiration: "Dominic, you still see through everything! So Nick... maybe he deliberately created this 'blank' of not giving orders? To provoke you into action?"

Dominic raised an eyebrow meaningfully, lightly patted his chest with a narcissistic expression, and said confidently, "Of course, I cannot be swayed. Nick not giving me orders is actually testing my decision-making ability." He chuckled softly, a hint of cynicism on his face, "No matter how much he schemes in the dark, we have to be ready to watch the show at any time. Besides, does he really think I'll just stay put in the rear?"

Blonsky looked at Dominic, his eyes full of admiration, "Dominic, you are indeed calm enough. But honestly, Nick's arrangement is watertight, he really dares to play this trick that looks like trust, haha!"

Dominic patted Blonsky's shoulder, smiled leisurely, and a hint of playfulness showed in his eyes: "That's right, his method of doing the opposite is quite interesting. If Hawkeye and Loki really cause some big trouble, that scene will be worth watching!"

After speaking, he leaned back leisurely in a chair nearby, clasped his hands behind his head, and casually propped up his legs, looking as relaxed as could be. But there was a hint of slyness in his eyes, as if he was ready at any moment for a real "Homelander-style" grand move when the situation truly escalated.

Blonsky smiled along beside him, and the two just stayed there quietly, waiting for the situation to change.
