Chapter 85 - Trust Agreement: Don’t Bring the Hulk In

Coulson pushed open the conference room door, and the moment he stepped inside, he felt a tense, oppressive atmosphere filling the air. He scanned the room and saw Dominic leaning leisurely against a chair, holding a bag of snacks. Blonsky beside him also looked lazy, completely ignoring the strained situation in the room. But everyone else had different expressions—Tony's face was full of anger, Banner's brows were tightly furrowed, Natasha was looking down at the table, as if lost in thought, and Steve was standing seriously in the corner.

"Oh, how lively." Tony sneered the moment he saw Nick walk in, his tone full of sarcasm. "Welcome, Nick. We were just talking about your great S.H.I.E.L.D. plan... or rather, the plan against the Avengers."

Nick's brows furrowed, but he remained calm: "Tony, I think you know the purpose of all this isn't to deal with you, but to ensure Earth's safety."

"Safety?" Tony scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest with heavy sarcasm. "Don't pretend to be innocent, Fury. My 'Agent'—Jarvis—found S.H.I.E.L.D.'s 'contingency plans' for every Avenger, even including how to deal with the Hulk, and even Thor, and our dear Captain and the Homelander." He deliberately emphasized the words "contingency plans," his eyes sharp as knives. "Are you trying to assemble a team, or prepare to destroy one?"

Nick remained composed, his gaze firm: "These are necessary precautions. Your power is exceptionally strong, but we cannot take any possible risks—even a one percent chance of accident could threaten Earth's safety. Tony, we cannot have infighting."

Tony's lips curled into a cold smile, his eyes filled with disdain: "For Earth's safety? That sounds very high and mighty. Honestly, Nick, I'm tired of your scheming. Is the reason behind you assembling the Avengers really that simple? Or—are you more concerned with how to control us 'risk factors' at any time?"

Steve stepped forward, trying to ease the tension, and advised: "Tony, we must stay calm. Nick's actions... maybe he has his reasons."

Tony turned to Steve without hesitation, letting out a cold snort, his eyes full of sarcasm: "Calm? Captain, are you still living in the last century? They're even secretly researching how to deal with you! Are you still planning to be the 'Earth's Virgin Mary'? They don't care about your broad-mindedness and dedication to justice!"

Steve's face darkened, his voice low and powerful: "Tony, I believe we can work together and solve the problem. Anger and suspicion will only cause us to collapse."

Coulson coughed lightly, trying to interject: "Maybe we can—"

Before he could finish, Tony waved his hand, interrupting him: "Oh, Coulson, don't be in a hurry to interrupt. I have a few questions for you people," his gaze swept over Nick, Coulson, and then to Banner. "For example, is your information on how to deal with Banner truly for 'protecting Earth's safety'? Or is the 'Hulk' just a ticking time bomb in your eyes that could explode at any moment?"

Banner's expression was gloomy. Although he didn't speak, he was clearly uneasy. He lowered his eyes and said softly to Tony: "Maybe that's their stance... But I can control myself, I won't—"

Tony patted Banner's shoulder lightly, with a hint of a sneer: "Control yourself? Do you really think they care? If there's any possible risk, they'll immediately throw you into a dark cage, or even take you down directly. Is this what you call 'trust'?"

Natasha had been keeping her head down. Hearing Tony's words, she finally couldn't help but speak, her tone carrying a hint of dissatisfaction: "Tony, we're here to cooperate, not to suspect each other. These words... will only tear the team apart."

Tony shrugged, glancing sharply at Natasha: "Team? Natasha, you know S.H.I.E.L.D.'s style yourself... Do you really believe them? Haven't you, an Agent, seen enough of the dark side?"

Natasha's gaze flickered slightly, clearly somewhat shaken, but she still bit her lip and retorted: "S.H.I.E.L.D. has its mission, we can't deny that. Tony, don't easily stir up infighting."

"Infighting?" Tony sneered, shaking his head. "Your so-called mission, is it to deal with your own allies? They even have plans ready to deal with Dominic. Isn't that enough evidence?"

Just then, Thor suddenly slammed his fist heavily on the table and roared in a deep voice: "Enough! I don't care about the suspicions and arguments between you mortals, but Loki is on this ship! He is the enemy I brought. We need to work together, not fight meaninglessly here!"

Tony spread his hands, with a sarcastic smile: "Wow, the Hammer God has spoken? Sorry, I'm not interested in being monitored and then calmly saying 'for Earth'. I'm already tired of hearing that!"

Nick took a deep breath, his gaze calmly sweeping over everyone, and said in a low voice: "Tony, believe it or not, S.H.I.E.L.D. does formulate contingency plans for all possible threats—that is our duty. Anyone, including you, is a potential risk."

Tony chuckled coldly and patted Steve's shoulder, his tone full of sarcasm: "See that, Captain? The Virgin Mary's work will always be targeted one day—he himself doesn't trust us, still using 'Earth's safety' as a cover." He paused slightly, adding mockingly, "This is the 'great organization' we are serving. How does that sound?"

Steve's expression was serious. He took a deep breath, trying to remain calm, but the anger in his eyes gradually surfaced: "Tony, this is not a showdown of who is right and who is wrong... If we lose unity, we will only give Loki and his schemes an opportunity."

Coulson tried to interject again, raising his hand: "If I may—"

Tony interrupted him almost instantly, glancing at Coulson with icy eyes: "Oh, sorry Coulson, I don't need to hear any more 'words of loyalty'."

The atmosphere on the scene became increasingly deadlocked. Natasha clenched her fists, muttering softly: "This is not what we came here for... We are now like pawns in Loki's hands, suspecting and attacking each other."

Nick spoke again, trying hard to control the anger in his voice: "Everyone calm down! We are at a critical moment. We shouldn't be defeated by these small suspicions! For Earth, we need to be more united."

Dominic suddenly interjected, saying with a mischievous smile: "Hey, sounds like a presidential campaign speech, Fury. For what is Earth? Peace? These guys are really something, everyone scrambling to say they're great, it's funny!"

Blonsky on the side couldn't help but laugh either, shrugging: "Dominic is right, Earth's safety sounds great, but once the inside is in chaos, that's the beginning of self-destruction."

Just then, the lights in the conference room flickered slightly, and a slight vibration suddenly came from the air, as if some powerful force was approaching.

Tony frowned, sneering: "Looks like our little drama has been 'heard'. Nick, what's your excuse this time to explain this sudden situation?"

Just as everyone was wondering, a low rumble came from outside the window, as if some powerful entity was gradually approaching.
