Chapter 101 - Words After the War — The Glory of Protection

In the control room of the sky carrier,Nick Fury stood before the main screen, his one good eye fixed on the spatial portal that had just closed.

Finally, the skies above New York began to calm. The remnants of the Chitauri army and their battle machines lay scattered through the streets and alleys like echoes of a fading nightmare.

Fury pressed the comm button, connecting simultaneously to the World Security Council and the White House. The faces of several political leaders appeared on-screen, each marked by fatigue and tangled emotions.

"Fury, give us a situation report," one Council member demanded, his voice tight with urgency.

Nick's expression didn't change. His tone carried a cold edge."New York is secure. The portal's been closed. But the cost is clear — the city's in ruins, civilians are injured, and the remnants of the alien invasion are everywhere."

One of the Council officials frowned, his voice sharp."So this alien technology… we must ensure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Enhancing Earth's defenses is in everyone's best interest."

Another official leaned forward, eyes gleaming with calculation."Yes, Fury. Since this technology now belongs to Earth, we'll assist in securing and distributing it — for global defense, of course. We should organize a joint task force to assess and share this 'opportunity' under an international framework."

Fury's lips twisted into a cold sneer. His gaze swept over them like a blade."'Opportunity'? I think you're celebrating a little too soon. If this tech ends up with the wrong people, your so-called 'opportunity' will become humanity's biggest liability."

The White House representative spoke quickly, trying to sound conciliatory."Nick, we understand your concerns, but this is a global matter. The government's willing to coordinate access to alien tech to prevent any single nation from monopolizing it."

Fury's tone hardened."We don't need your coordination. S.H.I.E.L.D. will handle it.And as for tech leaks — that's your problem, not mine."

His glare cut through the screen, exposing their hidden agendas with surgical precision.

When the call ended, Fury exhaled slowly, closed his eyes for a brief moment, then opened them and called Coulson.

Coulson's calm voice answered immediately. "Sir, reporting in."

"Coulson," Fury said, "recover every piece of Chitauri tech and debris in New York. Nothing leaves the site."

"Understood," Coulson replied. There was a faint smile in his tone. "Our teams are already on it. Not a single alien part is slipping through."

Watching the live feeds from the city, Fury's voice dropped low."Where are the other Avengers?"

"Tony, Natasha, Clint, Cap, and Banner have regrouped," Coulson reported. "They're securing Loki. Thor's taking him back to Asgard."

"Good," Fury said with a nod, a trace of weary satisfaction in his voice. "At least Asgard will lock him up this time… though the mess they left behind here is a big one."

He paused, his tone turning dry. "What about Blonsky and Dominic?"

Coulson hesitated — then chuckled. "Uh, sir… those two are currently being interviewed. By the media."

"What?" Fury nearly spit out his coffee. He rubbed his temple, half in disbelief. "You're telling me the fight just ended and they're already doing interviews?"

Coulson couldn't contain his laughter."Yes, sir. Dominic especially. He's explaining that he's not 'America's Superman' — he's calling himself a unique 'Earth Guardian.'"

Fury groaned, rubbing his forehead."Unbelievable. I've seen dramatic heroes before, but these two… they're rewriting the playbook. We're knee-deep in alien wreckage, and they're out there putting on a hero talk show."

Coulson's voice came back, still amused."And they're even joking about Chitauri tech on camera. Oh, and Dominic just announced, quote, 'Earth's future is nothing to worry about.'"

Fury exhaled sharply."Fine. Let them have their fun. Pull them in when they're done playing celebrity. And for God's sake, tell the media to back off. Next time, keep those two away from cameras — we're not running a reality show here."

"Understood, sir," Coulson replied, still grinning. "I'll handle it."

New York Streets

The frost melting on the pavement shimmered under the returning sunlight. In the lingering chill, Dominic stood before a wall of cameras, his trademark confident smile firmly in place.Reporters and photographers from every major outlet surrounded him, microphones and flashes pressing in like a storm.

"Mr. Dominic," one reporter asked eagerly, "this crisis was unprecedented. What kept you so calm in such a chaotic battle?"

Dominic brushed the dust off his shoulder and smiled."I've always believed protecting Earth is my duty. Every time I face an enemy, I remind myself that the planet's future depends on all of us — every Guardian.Honestly? If this was just a 'minor interlude,' I'm honored. Because Earth is always worth fighting for."

Pens flew over notepads. Cameras flashed.

Another reporter stepped forward, voice quick and curious."Mr. Dominic, people are calling you 'America's Superman.' Do you agree with that title?"

Dominic chuckled softly and shook his head."'America's Superman'? No, that's not right. I don't belong to one country — I belong to this planet. In battle, I protected people from every nation. So if I have to choose, I prefer 'Earth's Guardian.' Or simply — 'Homelander.' That's the name that matches my purpose."

Gasps and murmurs rippled through the press line. Cameras zoomed in.The admiration in the crowd was almost tangible.

Another reporter quickly followed up."Then how do you respond to those who question your actions or your power? Some say your methods are… unconventional."

Dominic nodded slightly, a calm smile still on his lips."I understand the doubts. Power always brings misunderstanding.Yes, my methods are unique — maybe even intimidating to some. But time will prove where my loyalty lies. I serve only one master — Earth. And actions, not words, are the best answer."

A moment of silence fell before the crowd erupted into applause.Dominic turned slightly toward the main camera, his expression thoughtful but resolute.

"So," he said, voice steady and sincere, "let's look forward to a better Earth together. Every day, we move forward — and I'll be there with you, silently protecting."
